omgggg help me pick a mixer

there are way too many.

ive been looking at the xone 32,
the vestax VMC-004,
and some random numark ones.

problem is: i have no experience in the field of mixers

you guys have been a great help to me hooking me up with various vendors who are great.

assuming i have a $500 (usd) cash limit, what would be the best mixer for my buck?

ps the setup i plan to have soon is:

2x cdj 800mk2
1x efx 500
1x mixer (?)

thanks guys

-will

you'll be rewarded w/ picks in the "post your setup" thread as well as an open invitation to house parties in PA

Re: omgggg help me pick a mixer

^^ how much did you pay for your CDJ-800s??

Posted by sr126 on Mar-03-2006 05:34:

i think you can scratch the vmc-004 from your list. it does not have an effects send/return.

i think some of the other vestax vmc's have an effects send.

also, are you planning to expand? as add some turntables, or cd players? if not, then you may just want to stick to a 2 channel, and get the best one you can possible afford.

maybe a xone or an ecler. try ebay, recycler, or craiglist. you maybe able to find a used/discontinued high end mixer like a rane mp22 or something for about 500.00.

Get the Xone:32 and don't look back.

Posted by Djyoungsta00 on Mar-03-2006 17:33:

+1

get the xone 32

i cant belive you tried to put a vestax VMC-004 next to a allen & heath xone 32 you need shooting.

if you got the budget go for the xone 62 or a denon dnx1500

keep away from behringer, gemini, numark, kam & citronic they are all crap........

but saying that the numark 5000-fx aint that bad really (for the price)

Posted by Soundwerks on Mar-03-2006 19:17:

check out the ECLER NUO3 as well....

Posted by wizniz on Mar-04-2006 01:27:

im getting cdj 800mk2s when they come out at the end of the month

looks like im getting an xone mixer?

if i can get it for $500-600 or less itd be fine

things going into the mixer would be:

1 cdj 800mk2
1 cdj 800mk2
1 efx 500
1 korg microkorg

would i need 4 channels... and thus the xone 62? ($$ becomes a problem at this point)

Posted by Munchy on Mar-04-2006 05:13:

The Xone:32 would still work, just change lines... I mean, you won't be running all 4 things at once... Prolly the 2 CDJ's and the effect machine, if you want to use the Korg thingamabob, just switch the line from one of the CDJ's or the effects and you're set to go.

Seriously, the only other thing I'd suggest over the Xone:32 would be the Vestax PCV-275 which is very similar but slightly cheaper... Otherwise go Pioneer DJM-500/600 cuz you're gonna end up playing on one during some point in your life, might as well get used to it now

The Vestax PCV-275 is not even in the same league as the Xone:32. Seriously. And I own a 275 as a backup. The only other roughly comparable mixers are the Ecler Nuo3 and the Rane Empath. And the Empath is a hell of a lot more expensive. And, don't worry about a DJM-600. They're rapidly disappearing from clubs. And, if you do encounter one, it's extremely easy to use.

And, just curious, but, if you have no experience, why would you get an EFX-500?

Posted by Trance Nutter on Mar-04-2006 13:12:

Don't get an effects unit (unless its too late) and use the cash on a better mixer such as a Xone 62, 92, or Ecler Nuo 5. If you are beginning you won't need an effects unit, it will only complicate things further.

Posted by Djyoungsta00 on Mar-04-2006 15:37:

if you go for a mixer like the denon dnx1500 or the nuo 5 you should be ok.

pioneer djm600 are ok there has been no major faults with them what so ever (unless you go swimming in a pool with one).

if you are a beginer why the hell are you getting the pioneer cdj 800mk2's

get the pioneer cdj 800 mk1's

then you will have more money to spend on a better mixer.

dont buy the efx-500

try to kill two birds with one stone by the way.
i,e get a mixer with built in effects.

p.s microkorgs are kewl i got one aswell the vocoder is ace.

Posted by wizniz on Mar-05-2006 05:02:

mk2's because i have the $$ and why not

i can wait on the fx unit no prob lol

xone 32 makes sense

i already own the microkorg

so it looks like im going for the xone 32

anyone want to recommend a buying location?

so far ive gotten quotes from:
agiprodj.com
and etronics.com

roughly $650

Posted by Munchy on Mar-05-2006 05:36:

$650 what? American or Canadian?

Cause it retails for $650 Canadian!

Posted by wizniz on Mar-06-2006 03:46:

i found one at agipro dj for $620

anyone know where i could get one cheaper

Posted by Munchy on Mar-07-2006 04:49:

Yes, in Canada

It should roughly be $575US or less retail from the Canadian conversion.

EDIT: Just checked on djdeals.com and it was $799US

Go to www.moogaudio.com, it's a shop here in Montreal... Just get it shipped to US... I tried California which is the opposite corner of where Montreal is and shipping was $12CAN...

Grand total came to $661CAN = $580US

dont resubmit the order they'll end up charging you twice. if there is a number on the site i suggest phoning it and talking to customer services
