Is Paul van dyk a influential Icon or a hypocrite ?
Raves are a gathering of 100 or more people dancing to loud repetavive electronic music and taking drugs. You can choose to attend & not take any drugs but you will be the minority. That still doesn't change the fact that the music was produced to result to
euphoric/psychedelic fealings while on drugs. Drugs + Music = Euphoria.
The promoters of these various events are eigher handling the traffic themselfs or
are directly linked to the people that supply the party with the ''goods''.
In undergroung clubs this is often done by the owners who use the club to launder the drug money they make by booking him.
He knows that when he makes this music .
His music will be heard in big rooms where various substances circulate.
He is not making music to save the world but to help people celebrate.
He should stop pretending.
He should come in terms with it. Face it. Accept it.
Instead, He is often trying to change the thirdviewers opinion in interviews. Electronic music is no longer releted to this ''creapy subculture'' with drugs & partys but is something intelectually higher that everybody should be part of!
Is he really trying to make a difference or is he motivated by fame and money when he captains the scene away from its origin?
Maybe YOU should lay off the drugs. At least it would improve your spelling.
i disagree to agree to disagree.
agreed?
From the snippits i've read here on TA and from reading interviews it's my opinion that it's just his way of handling the media. Sasha chooses not to comment, pvd chooses to say drugs are bad despite being a crackhead.
So in a nutshell yeah he's a hypocrite!!

If this exact thread was about tiesto, there would be another member called tiestoangel (or whatever) that would say exactly the same as you about Paul van Dyk.
Producers/DJs know that most of their interaction verbally with fans is through interviews so you can't always take what they say as gospel, they're always going to try and portray themselves in a good way. I'm sure members here (sure they may be lying but there have been more than 1) that have seen with their own eyes pvd taking drugs

And this is why I love Sasha
I dont care if he takes drugs, the only thing that matters is that his set gets me going... let him take drugs, eat crap and stuff I dont care, his problem
i think people care way too much about what pvd says. i don't care what he says about drugs to the media or if he's a hypocrite because of it. frankly it'd be a good thing if he put out the public image of edm not being so absorbed in/attached to drugs.
Who cares what a DJ does in their spare time.
Aslong as he plays the music I love and adore then I'll always have a smile on my face and a good time.
Isn't it all about the music??
Will
Thats like saying you have to smoke weed when listening to hip hop
Only sheep HAVE to do something, normal people have a choice
I am not saying Paul van dyk does drugs because I wouldnt know.
I am saying that he refuses to see the scene as it is and he tries to push it off as something that its not, begging & crying for mainstream approval
spend less time listening to what producers/dj's comment on and more time enjoying their work.
mike tyson for example.
i wish he would never open his trap, but i love to see him fight.
point made.
what a terrible thread
its music, and its a party, its not about drugs, and it never was, drugs may be involved sometimes, but its not important at all

| Originally posted by Grrrrr OK this is wrong, it's not my opinion it's pretty much fact especially the 'and it never was part'. I'm sure you're going to come back with some comment but i've not been in the scene long enough to give a decent reply i'll leave it to someone else. Where is Ishkur when you need him? |

| Originally posted by WiKKid sKiLLz Ive "been in the scene" for a time you wouldnt even understand. So I'll tell you some things in a slightly angry way to maybe shed some light on the subject. Straight from the scene to you. Ready? Do you know where the vibe come from and what is it all about? I do. It has nothing to do with drugs, and never has. Our ideals are not from drugs, and our music isnt either. Its a state of mind a state of being a state of living... The sounds of the music represent living things living motions living systems we experience in our every day lives... a night of music and partying is so we can celebrate our lives experiences one by one and just relax and party! I think you are failing to realize that the party scene is much like a religion or another society, a living one at that, and our alternative thinking and music is our perception of choice. It gives us control over our minds and our lives. You probably dont even understand whats really going on when you go out. There is a LOT more than meets the eye. Every party is a living breathing organism that EVERYONE ther is a part of. When a party goes off, its time for the party to crack out of its shell, get up, and start evolving itself for the rest of the night. Iskur is nothing more than logical history, but let me scream to you, the evolution of our music is not linear. The music is alive and evolving itself, free from the restraints of time. You most likely have NO idea what I'm talking about. That is sad for you. But when you are ready to open your eyes, the scene will welcome you with open arms and more love and intelligence than youve ever seen. It's a reality, but I can tell you really dont want it to be... I'll be waiting for you inside |
