Don't you hate it when.....

Don't you hate it when you are isolating a product in an organic phase from an aqueous phase (working in microscale) and you can't neutralize your acidity so you wash it over and over but in the course of the litmus test you use several drops of your organic phase and reduce the amount of your product (in this case 1-octanol) dramatically. Then you evaporate the solvent (dimethyl ether) and you end up with a horrible yeild, but a good refractive index. Then to top it off you get cocky and decide you don't need to use gloves and end up getting borane~tetrahydrofuran on your hand and end up with a few burns and a deep brown stain that will not fade for a month!

I thought I would post this since people post all sorts of madness about Chipotle and Cheetos. At least this has some sort of educational value.

I know Clovis hates it when his mom opens the door when he is "cleaning" his room

Personally, I would hate performing all that work for something that only costs $50/L

I am trying to master reduction by hydroboration/oxidation. I started out with 1-octene and reduced it to 1-octanol. All organic reactions are a lot of work. The mechanism for this reduction/oxidation is no fun either.

Rule #3, if you ever need to know what the right music is or have any doubt if a track is good or not, contact clovis so you can get the only right answer.

Werd, but if you ask me one more ableton question I'll fcukin kill you, and ya whole fcukin family, while reciting:

EZEKIEL 25:17

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who in the name of charity and good will shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

+1

Clovis is the all knowing authority of any music that has any connection to a piece of electrical equipment. He can draw out a sub-genre chart a mile long that is specific to individual artists!

I studied that mechanism last semester in o.chem....a boron hydride reacts to the double bonds of an alkene (ultimately three alkenes) to form a trialkylborane. Hydroboration is anti-markovnikov, right? Anyways, when the trialkylborane is oxidized, it forms an alcohol (ultimately three alcohols).

3(CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH=CH2)+ BH3:THF-->

3(CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2)B + H2O2,HO- -->

3(CH3CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2CH2)OH

Very good. Finally someone that knows chem! The thing that always trips me up is pericyclic mechanisms, I always manage to miss an arrow.

I prefer o.chem over inorganic chem...
for some reason, o.chem makes more sense to me.

what do you mean miss an arrow? do you mean when you draw out the mechanism using arrow pushing?
