TA Forum World Map

So I see Holland have made their own map too now That makes three of us (French were first, then us) so being a boring Sunday afternoon I made a world map.

The idea is, every country nominates somebody to maintain their map. Then that person gives me the URL of their map and it's added to the world map (to be maintained by myself)

At the moment only Europe - United Kingdom & Ireland is working. But I know that Holland and France have their own map so they just need to tell me the URL's of their map once hosted (obviously needs to be hosted by the person who's in charge of the map so that it can be updated frequently).

So start discussing this in your regional forums and PM me the details

Sweet!

This is a great idea! Man, I thought you Europeans just had good music! j/k

haha, this is pretty cool. I just looked at the England map and wow, that's cool that you have everyone placed out.

I'll start a thread in the NYC. We should have a pretty cool group and list from there.

Great job Spad!

AHH!! what happened to Europe? I remember it was a little bit smaller last time i saw it

Russia doesnt fully belong to Europe, I think everything eastern from Moscva is Asian.
Great Idea though!

Grr there's always one I know there are going to be a few things incorrect coz basically my geography sucks. But this is meant to be a regional rather than political map. If people are really seriously bothered by stuff like that I can change it. But I wont be happy Just a few points:

European Russia is the western part of the Russian Federation and is considered politically and geographically part of the European continent, while the entire country is officially part of Asia. The Ural Mountains are the accepted natural dividing line for European Russia and Asia. In some areas of the world geography teachings combine the continents of Europe and Asia to form Eurasia

Turkey is officially, politically and geographically considered part of both the European continent and Asian continent. The portion of Turkey west of the Bosporus (colored a darker gray) and bordering Bulgaria is geographically a part of Europe, while the lighter portion of the country (the largest part) is part of Asia.

Ireland, if anybody has a problem having Ireland as part of the UK map it's no probs, somebody can do a seperate one for Ireland if they want. If not just gimme your name and location as normal and I'll pop you on the same map as the UK.

Posted by inatrance on Jan-28-2002 15:33:

..one problem, is that western US, does not have a forum, or any representation

most of us in the northern US, post in western Canada forum.. but you know how it goes

these are the little details that are gonna be making this complicated can't wait till it is in full swing though!

Ah yeah good point. Is there like an official "Western Canada" or did you guys just split it up for the sake of the forums? Sorry if I sound stupid but yeah my geography sucks

Posted by Blik on Jan-28-2002 18:54:

this is our (BIG) map of Holland, and it is just a start

Posted by j_spot on Jan-28-2002 19:29:

Spad..no Western Canada is *for this forum* considered as everything west of Ontario(where toronto is)

I think for Canada and US, we should get 1 map, and split it up...otherwise it might look kinda funny.

Do you provide maps Spad?

Posted by Spad on Jan-28-2002 19:41:

* ADDED NETHERLANDS *

jspot: i got the world maps from the Lonely Planet site

Er.. I'd just go ahead and make one for yourself then Put some text in the corner of the map saying your email address or something so any future TA's who want to be on your map know how to contact you.

thanx Spad for adding us already!!! keep up the good work mate!!!

Posted by Blik on Jan-28-2002 22:52:

too bad that the maps are too small too really take a look on, when you post them on a forum you can see them very good, but when you click on the TA World Map Link and go to Holland or the UK you see a pretty small map, you can see some dots but that is actually it

does anyone know how to fix it, so you can get a pretty good view of the maps?

You have your Internet Explorer configured to automatically shrink images to fit the screen. Either turn that off or hold your mouse curser over the image for a few seconds then click on the icon that appears in the bottom right corner.

One way to stop it happening for everybody would be to link to a html page containing the image instead of directly to the image (I think).

exactly, that's what we did with the dutch map, and with an even ()bigger country like the UK, it's harder to see where everybody lives!!
