restoring old cars
anyone else do this besides me?
my first car was a 1967 mustang fastback.
took me the better part of a decade, but it's a 100 point restoration.
i just bought a 66 coupe for $1000, and want to drop a new engine in it.
however, i'm torn if i should find an older engine and rebuild it, or buy a new repoduction.
i only have a few grand to spend on the engine.
i wana get a 68 el camino, duno if it makes any sense to do so because it might be in the shop more than its on the road.

I got this old junk for free from a lot near my uncles way out in the boonies.

I had to invest about $2000 into it & about 2 months of having my friend work on it, but in the end it turned out pretty good.
Most of the conversion parts i found cheap on the internet.
Heres an after picture.

my uncles do this in their spare time. one of the cars was a '73 trans-am with a 454. another one they did was a '67 vette. it was bought for $16,000 and it got appraised for over $50,000.
find a old one and rebuild it. Do it the way you want it and do it right.
Ive always wanted to get a 67 mustang fastback and make it like "eleanor", like the gone in 60 seconds movie.

Originally posted by Audious I'll admit, haven't seen the movie since it came out. I remembered the GT half of GT500, couldn't remember what it looked like. I apologize.

Originally posted by enferno GT is just the title that Shelby gave it after the souped it up. basically, all Shelby was was a 3rd party souper-upper. the bought factory mustangs, souped them both cosmetically and performance wise, and sold them again. they never really made that many of them, but they are fucking sweet cars.

I know what Shelby is and what the GT500 is. I just thought it was Ford's supercar, the Ford GT.

Originally posted by colonelcrisp do you even know what the GT looks like? first off, the new Ford GT is styled and modeled after the origional 1968 Ford GT40 Mark IV, a limited build Le Mans race car that was a co product between Caroll Shelby (the man behind Shelby automotive) and the Ford Racing Design team. This car looks nothing like a mustang.... The 1968 Mark IV GT40 the 2005 Ford GT ![]() -i got to drive this one....this pic was taken at work, head office sent one up for us to evaluate.... and by evaluate they really meant drive the snot out of / break every traffic law in the book with... well apart from teh fact taht that your statement had nothing whatsoever to do with enferno's statement, although the cobra jets are great cars, id take a boss 429 or boss 351 anyday. infact there is a 99 cobra body running around detroit lately with manufacturer plates on it, that has a boss 351 decal on the truck, and its packing a prototype stretch aluminum cobra block..... standard 5.4L cobra block with two extra cannons added on, creating an all aluminum V-10 351ci displacement and its 60 lbs lighter than the the 5.4L Cobra block. the car is silver so if your in teh detroit area and you see a silver cobra going way too fast.... your probably seeing that prototype....
