[Review] Tiesto Solo @ Mansion [2006-03-26]
got to mansion at around 9:00 and there was almost no one on line, so a spot was claimed at the very front of what would soon become a confusing and ridiculously long line. club opened at 10, and we were inside by 10:15. tiesto was already on, spinning behind a nifty screen a la dutch dimension and TiC -- and for about 20 minutes he was spinning to an empty room... why mansion didn't let the crowds in a little earlier to fill the place out is beyond me...
tiesto continued spinning an outstanding prog-house set until midnight - he ended the 'opening' 2-hour set with Julian Jabre - War and the curtain went up. initially he was on-point and then he got mired in a road to nowhere: the tunes were stagnant and the crowd was forced to contend with cirqe du soleil style acrobatics and performance artists in costumes that looked like ninja turtles [i guess our 80 bucks had to go somewhere...]. The nadir of this shite middle portion came with a god-awful performance by jes brieden [in fairness to her, some of the crappy sound was the fault of the club's system].
i was getting pissed and disappointed and was ready to write off the set at this point, when tiesto suddenly came alive and for the next 2.5 hours ripped the place apart. shortly after 5 he ended with Silence, then did a 2 small encores with mark norman and traffic.
overall, the night was mixed: mansion was simply gorgeous inside but their system was balls, badly distorting high frequencies; tiesto, while dropping a memorable set with many highs, still was uneven for a large chunk of the middle. while i had a good time, this is the last time i fly down to miami solely for a tiesto gig...
also, very nice meeting neil (mattivi) - very cool guy
Tracklist Here
WOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!
Everyone knows i am not a Tiesto fan but damn. If Tiesto ever does another 6+ hour set during WMC i will def not miss it. I got there around 9 something and saw Damon, Neil, Tranceman in line so i butt in.
Around 10:15 we all got in but I didn't really see Tiesto get behind the decks till 10:30. The only thing that bothered me was that he was behind this ISOS5 curtain for soooo long. It was cool cuz we were up close so you can see through the curtain and Tiesto and his lil dance moves looked cool with the bigger shadow showing. I just wanted them to lift the damn curtain already.
Anyways at 12 o clock they did and man. Woooow. The place was fuking slammed pack. I was totally thinking he was going to play like 3 hours of cheese and the rest newer stuff.
He played about 30 mins worth of cheese. Tiesto threw it down nasty. The first track he dropped of his was @ 2:30 Just Be. Then again @ 3:30 he dropped Lethal Industry. As soon as the main riff came on everyone screamed like if the dolphins scored a touch down. It was def fun.
Jes came on to sing only 2 songs [thank jeebus] that was HORRIBLE! She looks like a meth-head lesbian that can't dance.
Some songs he dropped were.. Air For Life [heard it @ 3 parties this wmc] Parker + Hanson - Let Me Be.. LNA - Empty Streets
if u dont read my whole review atleast read this part!!
Tiesto's last hour and a half was absolutely NUTS! Only song I can ID from 3:30 - 5:00 *of the banging shit not the encores* was Basic Perspective - Small Step On The Other Side. Best part of the night. Seriously he was banging it out hard and nasty. This fuking party owned.
This was only my 3rd time seeing him and def the best. I left after Silence and Mark Norman... I found out from this morning that he played one more track and it was Traffic. But him playing from 10:30 till 5:00.. 4 songs isn't a bad ratio.
Worth the 80$ and some. 6 1/2 hours of TRANCE and TRANCE only!

Haven't seen Tiesto in a while. I'll catch him next time though.
WOW, yeah worth the $80 dollars, Tiesto came in and threw it down, people who didnt come out and see it, man u guys missed it, i make more of a review later, tired and sick
Konijn must have attended a different show than the rest of us...
Here's a repost of my brief review in another thread:
Tisto's set at Mansion last night was one of his best ever; in fact one of the best by anyone I've ever heard. As sweetcandy girl put it, he brought his A game, and basically matched his June 2004 Avalon performance. The mixing was perfect, the tracks all good with only a few exceptions, and the vibe incredible. And he was very gracious with fans, signing stuff, throwing signed T-shirts and his headphones at the end. He even acknowledged a certain red heart sign 3 times, no less
WMC 2006 highlight for sure.

Man, I sucked at IDing last night
Alrights.. I dont know what to say!. Well I do but seriously. I was blown off.. surprised!!!!!!. Was it Flawless MIXING that I heard all night?1?!?!?!.. Seriously.. The mixing was in TOUCH!!! I dont think I have ever heard him spin that good. Now to the tunes.
They owned me. They owned the crap out of me. The beginning was what you can call Mellow ( not progressive house ).. but Melodic trance with the progressive touch, neat neat.. when the curtains were lifted. Mayhem began... but not truly until right after the dumb ass Jes stopped singing is when the Real Truly good trance and techis sounds began.
Im so happy and glad I went to this, so much new material, easily the best trance set I << note I have heard throughout the conference.. and In a Very VEERYYY long time, right there with Markus.. but cant compare cause they are 2 different styles. I think that if he keeps doing what he did last night, I think he'll take #1 if PvD dont start doing stuff like August/Nov. more often.
basically matched his June 2004 Avalon performance
Glad to hear all the positive reviews making me alot more pumped for the crobar in may parties!!! glad to hear the positivity is back for tijis but the avalon performance man?? i thought that was big time low point but whatever to each his/her own...Glad everyone rocked out just outta curiosity can or would anyone compare it to the epic 2004 WMC SPACE SET!!!!

there was alot more ID's then what i expected. Def the 2nd best set i heard. B&J are #1 for sure.
But tiesto had a smile on his face the whole time and non stop dancing. I loved it.
The reviews from saturday got me a bit scared but no way. I'm sure it wont be for a while till we find out what songs he actually played this morning.
Oh and Nalin and Kane - Open Your Eyes def wasn't the markus and elevation mix that was ID'd from the night before. What ever mix it was... sounded as close to the original as possible.

Wow glad to hear it was awesome...of course I didn't expect to hear that.
HA I regret going to PvD even more now because even Tisto did better than him it seems.
Cuz PvD banged it for like 1hr 30min of a 4hr 45min set...
Anybody take pics?
how did tiesto 'do' better than paul if you weren't there?? to me this is irrational. :~

| Originally posted by MeLLyMeL His mixing wasn't flawless and yes. the fact that he didnt play cheese rocked. atleast tiesto wmc doesn't disappoint. trust me we were all shocked.. the only things i didnt like were the lil circus type ppl and the fact that it was crowded. but what else to expect coming from a tiesto show :x |
ALL in ALL A+! Cant believe how many people were freaking, me included. Most fun in long time.
