Thumbs down DJs that have spoken out against drugs?

Hey im looking for quotes or anything from a Dj speaking out against drugs. I know its stupid for a producer to do so since without drugs a massive part of the trance scene would die but yeah im looking for quotes as part of an assignment for university.

I've always wanted to know how many were for them and how many were not. Sasha just avoids talking about it since he does coke.

Posted by sikrav on Apr-02-2006 01:03:

i'd assume most of them regulary take drugs. And thats a good thing! im pro drugs

"...so the kids take a pill to feel the funk and the DJ takes a pill to feel the funk. I don't take a pill to feel the funk. Glenn Underground don't take a pill to feel the funk. Derrick Carter might take a pill for fun, but not to feel the funk."
--Derrick May (from mixmag interview)

Get the Ibiza Video on the TA main page, it has an Armin interview and Armin makes a great comment regarding this exact topic...

well i never!

Posted by RapidFire on Apr-02-2006 02:24:

PvD has talked about drugs. he said he never used them and I think he was against others using em. not sure where/when he said it though. look around the net Im sure youll stumble upon it.

Posted by suneel on Apr-02-2006 02:44:

pvd, armin are against drugs. ppl who are passionate about music, get high just listening to them. on a side note some psy/goa tracks sound really bad because the artist basically created them when he/she was high, and when a normal person hears them , they really suck.

Right and this person can cause the death of another person by being high and joking around and not knowing whats right and wrong..then sure its right, anything its right as long as it will make u happy. You think teens should take drugs too? They dont know whats right or wrong, all they know is whats cool. Not a good statement there. Drugs are bad period.

Do you get you info from Law & Order or some shit ?

Ive never heard of anyone not knowing the difference between right and wrong on drugs, drugs dont do that to you, you have to be mentally fucked up to think that at any time.

Some people are scared of drugs for the wrong reasons, if you tried a drug and u dont like it fine, but if u never tried it and have no clue, then u can hardly judge.

Its like me saying that Paris is a shithole without ever beeing there

haha you're so naive and ignorant about drugs.

We as humans know from right and wrong from an early age- CERTAINLY at teenage years.

And you make out like someone who takes drugs turns in to psycho the mass murderer! I bet you cant think of any cases of someone on drugs killing or harming someone else off the topp of your head.

Drugs should be a choice not a law

Nah I dont watch Law & Order, but its common sense. Alot of people do know the difference between right and wrong, but when it comes to drugs, as you can see, some dont. Teenagers in this case are effected the most, because like I said alot of them think from emotions, not whats right or wrong. Anyways regarding you statement about Paris. Well I dont know if you can really say that, because you dont hear people saying Paris is shit. Its more like saying Baghdad is shit, because in reality it is shit.

Now that other marcos guy is telling me that I am naive about drugs, sure you could call me that, I dont like to say that I am naive on that, more like having common sense, but whatever. Now if it makes you happy to do drugs, then go ahead do it..illegaly that is (depending on where you are), but your going to face charges and propobly get sent to jail. I dont want to go into a political debate here..

Anyways drugs and music, I dont belive that u need drugs to enjoy music better. You can enjoy music not doing drugs, but some people are in the music just because it goes good with the drugs, thats the difference.

What kind of a moron are you to think that you can label a whole city and its people as 'shit'

the only place that word seems to fit is around where your mouth is

Yup, that's the only one I can think of as well, PvD is this anti-drug thing.

Posted by Fundamental on Apr-02-2006 09:11:

Anyway... Back to the point of this thread, and to (hopefully) help the original poster, here's a quote from PVD.

"Maybe you have to be a freak like me, but this music fucking kicks my ass and I don't feel like I need anything else! I also don't tell anyone what they should do but I at least ask people to be aware. People take drugs relative to all sorts of experiences, not just electronic music. Most of the people when they overdo things, it's to escape reality, not to change the way the music affects them."
-Paul Van Dyk

Read some PVD interviews. He seems to be more vocal on the drugs topics than most.

I can.

Person high on drugs OR afer a big night on the drugs gets in a car to drive home/onto the next party... has impaired driving ability... doesn't see the pedestrian...

I'd say that has more to do with the driving.

Driving kills. Don't do it kids!

That is 100% no different to drink driving and both should be punished harshly by the law.

OK i can't speak for all drugs but take ecstasy for example, it certainly doesn't blur any concept of right and wrong. If anything ecstasy makes you happier, less agressive and more empathetic. How's that for your 'drugs are bad' common sense?

Coke makes you more confident, but you are still fully aware of right wrong. It makes some people agressive which obviously is a bad thing but the drug doesn't take over your mind (shock horror all you anti-drugs people, you're still the same person inside whether you're on drugs or not). You still have the control to say yes or no given any situation.

Alcohol is similar, it makes people more confident, which in turn means a bad situation can get agressive. Most of us have been pissed and and started arguing with someone in a pub/club whatever. Now can anyone say that at this point they lost all cocept of right and wrong and physically were not able to make the 'walk away' choice? Same goes for coke

Your 'baghdad is a shit city' analogy is perfect. How do you know Bahgdad is shit? THROUGH THE MEDIA. I'm guessing you've never had a good chat with one or more people that's been to baghdad have you? You do you know drugs are bad? THROUGH THE MEDIA. Pretty much everything they broadcast regarding drugs is bullshit. You have a chat with me or some other people about drugs and we'll for the most part all drugs are great fun if your're sensible and by no means dangerous to people around us.

You are naive. Tell me where you get your information about drugs from? Common sense isn't an answer

Shock horror i love listening to trance, i loved listening to trance long before i took my first drugs, i love listening to trance at home, i love listening to trance when i'm on drugs and i'm sure i'll love trance for many years to come. So don't give me the 'you don't need drugs to have a good time' bullshit because i know that and some of the best nights of my life have been drugs free

I'd just like to point out i've completely left the medical arguement out of this. I belive it's the drug users descision/risk
