Browsin for a new cell phone...

anyone have some good tips on phones to get? i've had samsungs for the past couple of years, i guess i'm used to them.. i like the size of their screens (i always feel like motorola's screen sizes are too small on most of their phones for ex.).. how's the a950?
so i'm open to other suggestions..

i have verizon btw..
thanx !

edit: would like a camera phone and really don't give a shit about vcast..

I have the light pink rzr phone that I got from Verizon. It was on sale and with new every 2 it was only $100. I like it because it's little and PINK!
I think the camera works well and the screen is big..

my only beef with the razr (well i haven't even used one so this is not from a hands-on perspective) is that it i feel like i will break it in 2 days... i'm rough on things.. shoes, books, clothes, what have you.. i had 3 replacements for breaking my current samsung in the past 1.5 years.. (i have the a670)...

I have one, and I'm not saying I love it or anything, but why do you have this concern? I've dropped mine off my dresser at least 10 times now and do you really think I baby it when I go out?

I hate the kepyad delay on the razr, though. Also, the microphone takes some getting used to if you're used to yelling into the phone or holding it really close to your face. It has a sort of reverb if you talk too loud or hold the phone too close to your mouth. It's actually a feature, though.

LG VX 8100 seems to be doing the job very well for me. Although I did have to downgrade from a Treo 650 (Insurance issues!) Regardless, I'm still happy with the LG since it does everything I want it to do and nothing that I don't want it to do. *crossing fingers*

cuz it's so thin and as i said, i break things easily with my man-crusher hands

i've had LGs before, i also like them, but 9 times out of 10 i can't stand the design.. (ok now i'm just being picky haha).

I'm thinking about going the Treo 650 route, anyone have experience with them? I'm on sprint and the whole new EVDO fad seems pretty appealing to me...thoughts, comments, suggestions?

Posted by DesifromJC on Apr-07-2006 20:39:

The Treo is an awesome phone. Really good conversation starter too, as sad as that is. It's bit heavy, but you eventually get used to it. It fits in the back pocket of my jeans and I wear jeans from Express, so the phone really isn't that big. 650 has a lot less problems than the 600 or 700. If I were you, I'd wait for the 750 to come out. It's be a bit pricer, but a lot more stable than the 700. The 650 is a good investment, but be very protective, because a few drops into it, and your in need of serious repair.

Not a fan of the razr because (this is gonna sound idiotic) it doesn't fit the shape of my face.. it's like straight... whereas my LG doesn't open as wide and so stays curved and snug..

Are you renewing your contract or buying just the phone? If you renew your service oftentimes you can get a phone for free.

Agreed with all points. Lots of people, specifically razr owners will tell you it's too big and heavy, but whenever that happens I just start playing around with the thing - I whip out my new york street map and scroll around it with the touch screen a bit, I boot up my nintendo emulator and play a little super mario 3, then I bitch slap their razr and tell 'em to shut up.

If you do get a treo, unless you absolutely need windows ce, stick with the palm version as the windows one has reduced screen resolution (240x240 vs. 320x320) which can be hugely problematic when you're trying to watch pr0n on the subway or something like that.

Oh motorola has the worst user interface i've ever used. I've owned phones from a lot of the big brands - sony ericsson, nokia, motorola, samsung, and palm - and motorola had by far the worst. Their menu system is just awful, text messaging is useless (tiny memory - and stupid memory management in general), and the customizability is seriously lacking. This was about 2 years ago so they might have made some improvements although after a quick spin in the razr recently it would seem they haven't.

I've heard some good things about Samsung's D600 although that won't work with Verizon. Don't know much about the A950...

Edit: Oh, I dropped my treo onto a subway platform and then down onto the subway tracks and the thing didn't have a scratch on it. Either I got super lucky or the thing is built like a tank.

Best phone I ever had...

Posted by mamii on Apr-07-2006 23:22:

I work in a cellphone store and we carry T-mobile, Cingular, Sprint and Nextel, everything except for Verizon. The phone we sell the most is the razr. I personally wouldn't recommand you getting the razr, the phone itself have a lot of problems such as the outside LCD sometimes would turn black or flashes when you close the phone, the phone have lagging problems, the quality of the speakerphone is really bad.

Posted by yankeeBaby on Apr-07-2006 23:34:

I am also trying to get a new phone...I have dropped my current phone one too many times and its giving up on me...lol

Anyone have ideas for a phone that is simplistic....ie: I don't need email, internet, anything fancy, I just want a clear connection and be able to call people, with maybe a camera....and I want it to look pretty that is all.

i've heard mixed reviews about the treo...one of my coworkers got a treo so he could use it for work...after two weeks he returned it cuz he got fed up with using it to check his work emails

i have the razr...it's perfect for going out since it's so slim...interface is typical motorola...bleh at best
