Friday May 19th / Alex Bau (germany) live @ Aria CD Launch Party!

Wow, EXCELLENT NEWS!!!

ELP ( www.elpmedien.com ) will distribute the official CD " Alex Bau live @ Aria " in May 2006!

This incredible set that was recorded at the Ravemontreal party back in January 2006 will be heard worldwide!

Friday May 19th, Alex is invited by Aria to celebrate this CD Launch and will stop in Montreal.

(Flyer will be out soon)

ELP OFFICIAL PRESS RELEASE

There are numerous club experiences for a dj, bad ones, good ones, even better ones and there are some to remember! If you have a recording from one of these nights to remember, convincing with musical versatlity and somehow showing what`s possible when the chemistry work sout fine between dj and dancefloor, you can call it "luck". This unique experience happened to Alex Bau on friday, 27th January 2006 when he took over at Aria, Montreal at around 4:30 in the morning. He was simply overwhelmed by an absolutely astonishing warm and positive atmosphere so that he simply had to bring out this mix in order to make everybody participating, at least to give you the chance to do so.

This mix, part 1 of the set, is a big thank you to all the people attending this night, but it is also a very good tool to show how fascinating techno can still be in 2006 beside all this "only minimal"-hype all around. From more groovy stuff to techno you will find tracks from 2000 and One, Eric Prydz aka Cirez D or Tim Xavier and Tony Rohr as well as pure techno from Luke Slater, The Advent or Mark Broom. It`s all about energy in its different doses, setting free emotions, heating it up and cooking it down again in order to get it finally exploding. Just like Friday, 27th January 2006 in Montreal. At least one dimension, the music, can be saved in a physical form... a clear YES on Techno!

ALEX BAU RECENT INTERVIEW

Travelling around with his records in his bag Alex Bau has discovered many exciting places over the last years. One of his favourite is Montreal, Canada, and obviously there`s a connection between him and the techno-loving crowd of this city as he returned to Montreal in January 2006 for the third time meanwhile within around 2 years - and it changed everything! What happened to Alex that he declares this night to be one of the best he ever had behind the decks?

Question: Alex, you will be coming back to Aria / Montreal on May 19th for the presentation of your Mix-CD "live at Aria / Montreal". How much did they pay you to promote the club via an official DJ-Mix... ;-)

A: Actually nothing, and they did not have to think about it even. My gig in January was so impressive that I simply had to archive it and Aria is one of the best clubs I ever played. I was sitting in the plane back to Munich and thought "Man, what happened there? It`s January, how should I top this during the rest of the year?", after a while I was talking to Creator from Ravemontreal who brought me there again and he was also very interested in supporting the CD-project.

Question: Don`t you think there are too many Mix-CD`s out on the market? What`s the difference with "live at Aria"?

A: It`s authentic. Maybe as authentic as can be! It`s not an Ableton-mixed studiosession, it`s real, pure clublife, a tracklisting that was perfect for the moment, actually a tracklsiting that was also determined by the crowd of course. You can see loads of Mix-CD`s on the market that are just there to promote the Act, but not the music. They jump on the minimal train because it`s fancy, they jump on the hardtech-train because it`s easy to sell or whatever. Of course, this mix is also a good promotion for me, but the main reason was that I wanted to keep these unique moments at Aria on January 27th 2006 as good as possible and also wanted to share them with others. It`s simply dedicated to all the people who have been there and for those who are interested in versatile technomusic. It`s not only the music, for example the whole booklet is full of pictures of that night and my stay in general, it tells a story and the cd is the soundtrack to this story that hopefully shows people how much fun techno still can bring to us.

Question: The tracklisting features a very broad mixture of styles, how did that happen?

A: Well, as I said, I was totally open for the response of the crowd that night. Before me Dj X-Cube was playing a really fine selection of electrohouse records so I tried to connect my set to his by choosing some more groovy stuff in the beginning. I like this a lot, I always try to build up my sets, not going on 100% from the first record. The crowd desired more, they were waiting for techno, so I turned to techno within my bandwidth of music.

Question: The mix is splitted into two parts, why?

A: It`s simply a decision by the distributor (ELP Media and Distribution) as they were afraid of having troubles with selling a expensive double cd-package from a DJ who is far away from names like Chris Liebing or whoever. I am pretty realistic, this CD is not mainly a commercial project, it`s what I am all about : the love for DJing and partying together with a fantastic crowd that is open for different styles of music and the atmosphere of this night showed me that the best nights happen when you combine groovy stuff together with more driving techno. Fuck off purists ;-)

Question: There are rumours that you produced a bootleg from Blur`s "Song 2" just a couple of hours before you went to Aria in order play there and it`s reported that this remix was the song of the night?

A: I wouldn`t say it was the track of the night, but people seemed to like it, yes. I was shopping in Montreal during the afternoon and I found the blur-cd in a store at St. Catherine`s and I was into doing this remix for more than two years. When I saw the CD I had to buy it and went back straight to the hotel to my laptop to do a first version.

Question: So when will part 2 of the CD be out (with the Blur-remix)?

A: I don`t know, there are plans to bring it maybe as a free limited mix inside my upcoming album on zenit later this year, I don`t know. We`ll see.

Question: Talking about Zenit we have to point out your latest works on different labels, tell us more about it!

A: I was pretty busy with producing the first two months of this year, actually after my Montreal gig I did not play any more gigs until end of march. I finished my album for Zenit on which I am really proud of. Some 12" came out on Zenit, Ante Zenit an a really hard slammin release on Chris Liebing`s CLR label. I like this, one week you get a record from me with groovy, acid-like tunes on Zenit, next week you get a really hard technorecord on CLR. Especially for the people in Germany it`s hard to understand that one artist can be flexible with his music, but I give a fuck on that. The music I do comes from inside of me, and one week I am in the mood for easy going stuff, the next week it`s harder techno. The main common thing is always the groove!

Question: So what are your plans for the rest of 2006?

A: On the production side the main focus lies on my album, coming out on Zenit in fall this year, there will be several 12" before, mainly also on Zenit and some other labels with ELP. We will have Toneman, my own label with Sven Dedek, being reactivated after nearly a year and I also spent some time on starting a new label "Accidential Souns", hopefully the first release will be out soon. On the touring side I am completely back on the schedule and we are already now are planning my album tour starting September, hopefully I can come back to north america again during the tour.

Question: Thank`s Alex and have a lot of fun in north america in May!

Awesome! nice Martin

I was wondering if you would deliver some techno for my birthday this year... as you did the past 2
Not on the actual date but close enough!

Can't wait

Well i'm not really behind this one, Aria is doing the booking...

Just happy that I could help out and support Alex and Aria.

This is great news for both of them.

He did such a wicked set last January, can't wait to hear him again.

you brought him here in January which is the basis of this booking it seems...
So in my books I owe you the thanks!

But I will admit I love a good techno dj at Aria, so I am excited for that too.

Posted by Kate Manus on Apr-07-2006 16:26:

Alex Bau is exactly the kind of booking I think Aria should have been pursuing for techno ages ago...

He is a rising star and not overly expensive, and having played here a few times now, he has generated some buzz because of his always solid performances. I know it will be a great night of techno... and not nearly as risky financially as booking a bigger name.
No one knew who he was when he first played Montreal, but you have to start that somewhere! (and not rely on the djmag poll)

That's wicked about the cd release too.. good exposure!

Of course! I'm even thinking of proposing a special price entrance fee + CD included.

Posted by Skipper on Apr-07-2006 18:19:

I'm just curious why he would release a CD that you can already download on the internet for free?

Posted by Ravemontreal on Apr-07-2006 19:17:

Because it's a really good set, and when we put it on the web it was a gift for Montreal, but he didn't had the intention at that point to release it. But we took it off internet just a few days after.

don't forget that the CD is better quality, masterized, with official booklet, and a really nice souvenir for those who were there.

And technically, unless people that already download the set put it as a file share (and that wouldn't be really nice) most people around the world haven't heard it.

Congratulations Martin.

I didn't know you had taken it down...but I wouldn't be surprised if it had been posted around in the short time you had it up.

Since it seems that I will be in town I will definately try and make it for this night. Creator, be sure to open for him!!

Oh and I can't wait to hear that CD. I was kicking myself for not attending when he came in January but thankfully, I have another chance to hear him!

Alex Also wanted to play with me sometime, even asked if I was willing to do a tag team....

So we add a little debate on the fact that I tought my music was too house and electro to fit with his style, and that I wouldn't compliment was he's doing, and he tought to the contrary that the challenge would be to make it work....

Either way, it,s a great compliment from him to offer me this, I know he heard me play before so I know he's aware of what I do as a DJ.

BUT, I still doubt that I would be the right person to open for him, and that a more tech-minimal dj would be better.

You are selling yourself short Martin, you should give it a try. It could click in a way you guys don't expect. You won't know it until you try it, who knows this could be a new collabs (a la speedy J and Chris Liebing)

regards,

Great Job Martin, I could not attend this night due to a wedding, but there will be no stopping me this time.I also hope that you do the cd/ticket deal as it is very interesting to me.

Skipper:
You can download illegal mp3's of almost anything, but some will still buy it just to have it as part of their collection.I have this set(amazing btw), and i will still get this cd.There is just something extra about having a good piece of music packaged and able to put in your cd case.

once again congrats on this.
