Hey! My dad's in Botswana right now!

Wow. That's a random and unnecessary fact.

Posted by Freak on Apr-11-2006 20:41:

beatport lose so much by doing this. Its retarded and fucking annoying.

If they wont sell it, just get on ebay and see you can buy the cd or vinyl from abroad then! or search out other download sites that dont do this!

Posted by DOOMBOT on Apr-11-2006 20:46:

Any reason why sites do this though? Just curious...

lol and I totally randomly thought of botswana as some random country

Posted by Aquarian on Apr-11-2006 20:56:

Beatport is really horrible for this kind of stuff.

Posted by stevieboy32808 on Apr-11-2006 21:25:

Try finding the same song on a different label. Sometimes they have multiple copies of the same song on Beatport so try another label.

something to do with royalties i think. Artists are supported by different record labels in different regions. So a label can't profit off an international sale as it might not be their money to claim.

Again i only think this is why. Someone will probably tell me i'm way off the mark lol

nelly

Its because certain labels only have the rights to a track for a particular country. Eg, Mylo - In my arms is pressed on Superstar in the UK but in the US its exclusive to Ultra. So Superstar gives beatport the right to sell it anywhere in the UK, but not elsewhere. The only way to get a track that give you a territorial error is to wait until the label that owns the rights in your particular country to release it. That might never happen.

solution? Buy the vinyl or CD from overseas, or check your local record shop.

you can always use an ip spoofer too.

If you just find a non-transparent proxy that's located in the country you want (http://aliveproxy.com) then that hides where you're really browsing from.

Posted by r5a on Apr-12-2006 04:34:

Yes, that would work in theory. But your CC holds you back, see Freak's post which was quoted.

Posted by blacknoizybox on Apr-12-2006 04:59:

Oops, with all the proxy talk that was going on I really thought you guys meant some new computer card or something along those lines.

Darn, if it wasn't for that credit card part.
