Been spinning 8 years with only one gig. not cause i suck or anything, far from it im told all the time. I mix as a hobby for enjoyment. I could be out djing but i cant be arsed trying to make it in a saturated world. I do it purly for enjoyment.
first gig was 6 months after touching my first record
i picked it up pretty quick
It was about a year before I was offered and slot at a local night here... since that gig.. nothing for the past year, which isn't a big deal, my style (Psy) is not of any huge popularity in Calgary.
you have a gig already? sheesh.
you are confident enough?
I haven't had a gig yet
It also doesn't help that I am underage.
Iv been djing for about two years. Iv done houseparties and such and late night radio shows but never a proper gig.
Im going to try send out demos within the next year.
It was just under 2 months after I got my turntables. Before that I had mixed with traktor for 18 months so the main learning curve for me at the time for beatmatching but I didn't do too badly. I was totally thrown into it though, and I think that was a good thing.
8 months
hmm. about a month or 2.
i started off just chilling in the booth with dj friend.
next thing i know i'm filling in for him while he's gone off somewhere to chat up the chics or when he doesnt show up for work.
hahah, i had an 18th to do like 2-3 weeks after getting my gear! then another 2 weeks later.... just tried to beatmatch like 4 bars or so with the crossfader, and bang... too easy! a few minor screw ups but meh!
Never, I tried in high school to DJ at a few dances but no one wanted to listen to my music, it was all about R&B and Hip Hop at dances. I got rid of my TTs last year for CDJs, so i'm kind of relearning, and learning more about DJing and beatmatching and all. My goal is to work on stuff and get a gig by next summer, but I have to get my beatmatching down first....
Thats the thing, with birthdays and school dances most people dont know/dont give a crap about mixing.
I well and truly can't remember. But it was probably about 19 years ago.
Cheers

2 months? Got a gig real quick!
just shy of 2 years for my first paid club gig.
i was practicing in a lounge pretty much from the start...knew the owner so he would let me come in early before the majority of the drinking crowd hit.
first club gig was 8 months after that i think?
6-8 months! i was pretty much ready then and supportive of my style!
i think it was a little shy of 300 peeps.
I had 1 year mixing with Traktor, and just 2 weeks after receivng my Cdj's I got my first gig.
hmm, how big a gig are we talking aboute?
50+, 100+, 200+....?
50+ my first time was aboute 2 moths after playing at a cdj. I could not play last saturday, but I talked to the other dj, and there were aboute 300 people there... Next time I am playing though.
the biggest I've played, 150+...
2.5 years

I think it was about a year before my first official gig. I played a little bit before that at house parties but I sucked it up pretty bad.
