(VIC) Places to go?

Hi,

I want to help a freind of mine out. She says she is into trance, but she has never been to a trance club (except for two tribes). I know nothing about any of this, so i was hoping you guys might be able to help me out. I'm not into trance and techno so much, but i love learning new things!

Well, i've done a bit of research on this, like reading through the trance wiki and i have listend to a few songs from this list. But i'd also like to know where some good clubs are in melbourne. I had a look through previous posts, but i couldn't really find anything. I'm looking for somewhere that plays mostly trance/prog-trance.

I was tempted to ask you guys if you have any recomended listenings, but if this forum is like any other, you'll have a million of those threads already. But, you know, if you want to maybe suggest something, i'm totally ok with that!

Thanks.

Interview @ Tilt.

in regards to prog trance and melodic/epic type trance, there arent really any clubs out there that have regular or weekly events.... which is a damn shame because its the best trance music out there

these events tend to be random and at different locations

check inthemix.com.au

there is Majik entertainment however that holds weekly gigs, but that tends to be Harder trance, not bad imo, but the crowd can kind of let it down... muzzafied rambo action some times, and the girls can be just as bad as the guys... i dont care as long as everyones having fun and theres no bad vibes

if you want to try out the harder kind of trance theres a few places along commercial rd and chapel st.

theres a few hardstyle clubs out there also, but thats if your into wearing phaties and candy necklaces

thanks for the replies. Interview at tilt looks good. The next one is on 27th may, i'm going to try and head on down.

also, thanks for the inthemix.com.au link vman83, very good resource!

I would say if the interest came from the main arena of trance at Two Tribes you want-

Interview monthly at Tilt - basically prog/trance/house over two levels so it suits *everyone* ie there's some commercial stuff everyone knows that gets spun

Obsession monthly at Room - uplifting trance in the main room and progressive in the side (which seems to be getting more minimal)

Though like others have said there isn't too much happening anymore. Quality trance is getting neglected these days.

Bass Station/Hard Kandy/3D/Tuned/Revolution I think are all hard trance/dance and it most def isn't everyone's thing. Very hard music, lots of drugs.

I'd also say note the release date of the '100 greatest trance tracks' as the trance sound has definitely changed quite a bit from that sound and you won't necessarily find it out (hey I don't, JulesPLees was pretty farkin close at the last Obsession though!) It can get a lot more 'uplifting' these days.

I wouldnt call those clubs hard trance, just like with uplifting trance, there is no real club in Vic that plays proper quality hard trance. I have yet to go to Revolution & doubt they play the VERY HARD music that you think is hard.

LOL@ very hard music, lots of drugs.

Yeh like no one at Obsession or Inteview takes anything.

Posted by Fpcookie on May-20-2006 07:11:

lol those clubs do play hard trance. what do they play there if it isnt hard trance? just cos u dont think it isnt hard, it is still considered hard by most people and it is DEFINATELY hard trance.
if u think what proteus plays is hard trance then somethings wrong. theres absolutely no trance component to what he plays at all.

Oi Missy, I have only been to 3D of the above mentioned clubs and it was DRUGS ALL THE WAY. The 'chill out' room was full of people gakked out of their mind! I have had friends go to Bass & Hard Kandy who say drugs are prevalent or were going through their own drug lord phase.

Drugs are may be around at Obsession and Interview, but they absolutely don't have that creepy drug vibe that occurs when a number of patrons have overdone it.

As for hard trance, whenever I wander past the Kandy or Bass rooms at Two Tribes or Godskitchen that music is waaaaay hard to my ears. You have a warped sense of what is hard Missy cos you are so hardcore! We all know that! HELLRAISER

Anyways... Obsession and Interview FTW

Posted by Nsonic on May-20-2006 07:28:

Drugs?

pssh, how cliche`

Posted by sunrise3500 on May-20-2006 08:41:

I guess I'm just gonna kinda repeat what's already mentioned..
Try out interview.. not strictly trance... but there is some trance, as well as stuff like house, electro, prog n stuff.. bit of a variety!

Obsession - Room.. look out for the next one! It's *MINT*. DEFINITELY come! This is probably the EXACT thing you're after.

There's a new night called 140... Not sure when their second night is, their first night was on the quiet side BUT the tune quality was great.. look out for that, and hopefully they continue with the same kinda tunes! (I know a few members here know a bit more about that..)

and I guess other random events. Keep an eye on here (TA), as well as... ITM

Posted by CD-ROMper on May-20-2006 08:50:

hey, i'm interested in 140, where can i get more info on that? i think a nice quiet place might be a good start?

lol they play maybe 10% hard trance (majority of it is prob cheesy hard trance-like i said before you dont find quality hard trance being played in many Vic clubs these days) & the rest is hardstyle.
It is definetely HARDSTYLE & not HARD TRANCE all the way through.
And did I say these clubs dont play HARD at all? I was talking about HARD TRANCE & in reference to Revolution when I said they dont play AS HARD AS YOU THINK! (ok if you want to get technical here then I can see how Tricky Tricky may seem hard to some, whereas I dont find that track to be proper hard music-infact I hate that track with a passion & refuse to dance if I ever hear it out)

LOL did I ever say Proteus plays hard trance?

now thats bloody funny

lol Tori
Yes well drugs are prevalent in MANY clubs, its just that some people mainly associate it with the rave-type clubs, because of all the gwhores & meth-heads & overdoses and you're probably right I myself have seen this at these sort of clubs & agree that many people are fukt up, although everyones quick to generalise, NOT ALL people are on drugs at these kinda clubs or over-do it & are that disoriented.
And at the end of the day be it with the trance/hard/house/techno scene, DRUGS ARE EVERYWHERE!
Im not trying to make it look as if Im defending the harder scene, in fact I wish it wasnt so 'drug-fuelled' because I hate seeing really bad munted fux falling over, not knowing where they are, etc & that turn into vegetables the next day! lol, but like I said drugs are everywhere- creepy drug vibe or non-creepy drug vibe!

LOL just because I like HR, Proteus & Combichrist & some heavy metal yes maybe I am too hardcore than the rest of you, if thats what you want to call me- but I do know the difference between SOFT HARD -HARD- HARDER & HARDEST & the difference between hard trance & hardstyle!

something about a new venue for their next event.. not sure when tho either.. take a look around itm, see if u can dig anything up on it (meh).
definitely goto obsession - if you really do want trance, then oh yes you'll get it. and interview is definitely worth while checking out, it's a good night and prolly will have *some* trance (maybe.. i dunno lol) but *shrug* come n see, and next weekend too!

i sound like a fucking promo whore

LOL vman! It's called VARIETY and DIVERSITY - It's not Missy bringing up Hellraiser's name on this site all the time - It's others taking it out of context and bringing him up - because THEY hate him & his style, so she is judged based on that. Same ol' story LOL

BTW it was nice to meet you @ Obsession - we were at Sunshine People as well, hope we didn't scare you too much LMAO

Posted by vman83 on May-20-2006 15:03:

nah all good i like to get my mong on every now and then

and believe me if theres anyone that was scary at scumshine peepz it was me... it no shit took me almost a month to recover... yes i am ashamed of my muntedness but i had a good night so MEH

hellraiser is ok, dont get me wrong hes a good dj and shit, i couldnt do what he does...

im just saying some of the fans of his are fuckin wack motherphukers... alot of my friends love him and they are totally normal, but it just seems to me that when i go to an event, and i see the demented people, they all seem to praise him... meh im fukin anyways so im just talking shit right now

it was great to meet you to at obssesion... seriously, all of the crowd there was wonderful... the type of crowd that lovesssss their music but manages to compose themselves during the night... i didnt see one person who had front teeth missing hahahahaha

i hope i didnt offend anyone with the crap ive just said

OH YOU SOOOOOOO OFFENDED ME, IM GOING TO CRY NOW.

LOL

OFCOURSE YOU DIDNT OFFEND ANYONE WITH WHAT YOU WROTE, YOU ARE ENTITLED TO YOUR OPINION

Yes I agree with you, I hate seeing half-humans, half monkey quarter lions, girls who look like ants have eaten half their faces, etc, etc.
I like a whole variety of music
I dont know if the whole crowd is PRAISING HIM, moreso the music that he plays, its the same with any dj. If you like the music, then ofcourse you're going to say 'oh that dj really rocked', etc.
HR is truly one of a kind, he is talented in the field of music he plays/produces & always entertains!

You get my drift Nikko?

Also are you trying to say NO ONE TAKES ANYTHING at Interview or Obsession?
Sorry to say, but I find that hard to believe.

Like in ALL CLUBS, there are people who take drugs, who dont take drugs & who abuse drugs.

OH ALSO:

I TAKE THIS BACK:

have yet to go to Revolution & doubt they play the VERY HARD music that you think is hard.

Going by Anitas reports-apparantly Jewelz destroyed last night with the real harder stuff!

can u read or not?

i didnt say that dont put words into my mouth

my original post read

quote:
i dont think your the one to judge seeing u havent been to either of these nights.

now u tell me if i said it?

Posted by MiSSyM on May-21-2006 07:06:

SO NOW YOU'RE INSINUATING THAT I CANNOT READ!

TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTION, YES I CAN READ!

BUT CAN YOU COMPREHEND WHAT I WAS SAYING NIKKO? OBVIOUSLY NOT!

I SAID:
quote:
Yeh like no one at Obsession or Inteview takes anything.

YOU SAID:
quote:

Since others like to generalise about clubs they haven't been to & say-hard music-lots of drugs, damn right im going to judge!

You didnt have to say anything. You said- I dont think you're one to judge since Ive never been..........well obviously it doesnt take a genius to figure out some people will be taking drugs!

HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND BETTER NOW!

Stalactites on Lonsdale St and Souvlaki King on Brunswick St i highly recommend; there's nothing else really of interest in melbourne though.

Posted by Anomyst on May-22-2006 01:49:

Interview FTW!! hahaha thanks for the promo whoring guys!

Stalactites on Lonsdale St (best part of Tathi's night of interview)

was awesome seeing you murder one of those outside interview preaching about it!!

if you wanna come to interview, jump on the guestlist

[email protected]

MiSSyM: your mouth needs to be stapled shut for the rest of the year! LOL i was surprised when the nice little police man came and gave us a noise complaint that morning at my place, and you openly yelled out at him to tell you why we had to turn the music down and how unfair it was.

Considering how retarded we all looked, i am surprised he didnt come inside on the second trip to take you away.

hehehe
