Reviewing while listening,
The intro sounds to enssambled, I have told you this before, the issue with your music in my very personal opinion it is all seems like if you would be using the same mold always to produce your tunes, producing melodies and all based on molds too, melodies are very repetitive, your best skill is the drums programing for sure, they always sound rich and full, but the rest it lacks of alot of creativity.
In overall, nice production, great drum programing but all your tunes sound the same and they have a lack of creativity, same fills, intros, outros, and big hits, I felt the tune kinda bored, but the production is solid, being you I would worrie less about to get that big progressive sound and would focus to get some good melodies .
Only my opinion of course, keep it up .
Kopi =o.

thanks for ur comment Kopi

i agree with what ur saying.. but ive always tended to make my melodies that way.. its just the way they turn out.. most often 2-4 bars riffs.. under a 2 bar bassline..

Maybe I can agree with Kopi about the repetitive melody but I like it that way, gives the righy feeling (hypnotic), really like the atmosphere. I enjoyed!

Thnx a lot for the share Looking forward to hear this new track from you Have a great weekend

First of all, I don't think you can really complain about repetitiveness in trance..surely that's what trance music is all about..or should be about.

Listening now...

Nice percs. When the bass comes in it steals some of the kicks power, perhaps make the kick a bit more punchy. Some cool FX going on in the background.
I like the break at 2.44..breakbeats are good too except for the kick, it's very dull sounding.
Good melody here, dark yet strangely uplifting
Some nice variations towards the end as well.

Overall I enjoyed it, but it's not your best track man, I preferred your Madonna remix to this.

nice track progresses well...efx are cool..nice pace..repetative works for me...good arangment...all sounds gel well together...keep up the good work

Posted by Klangzentrum on May-28-2006 20:09:

yo, stian!

again a solid production! somehow i really enjoy your melodies, although they are indeed a bit repetive...but this is subtle style and is somehow always very driving through over the whole track...
percussion is as always yammy!

Of course you can, this is the number one problem with trance today imo, all the long boring transitions between songs the djs make.

Posted by SPANIARD on May-30-2006 22:43:

Really like this track actually. Quite dark but very trancey. Something different for sure. I can't say I agree with the other users about it being very repetitive since I haven't heard anything else by you. If there was anything I would suggest, it would be possibly to have the song only about 6 mins long instead of 10. I think in a live set it might drag on a bit too long and the crowd could lose a bit of interest. Other than that, love the melody.

thanks for ur comment..

i agree the track is prolly too long for a DJ set, but 6 minutes songs are so boring

Would you also like to squeeze LOTR trilogy into 3 hours?

Anyways, I thought the track was a bit basic. It was also a bit muddy, but then again I liked how the sounds were full instead of all bottom eq'ed out (like in many nowadays tracks). From this track, I pretty much got the impression that BT-style of breaks would suit you (big sounds, tempo-synced fx, lots of drums).

thanks for the comment, ive kinda starting to believe in keeping things simple, nowadays tracks i find much too serious and complicated

maybe i should try some Breaks, sometime..

Nice meaty kick
The intro is in your face, lol.
Ah Those driving percs haha, werent we just talking about that.

Great flow, good for a dancefloor thumper. Bassline is beautiful, has that prog feel to them.

Progressive Dance

Posted by richg101 on May-31-2006 22:07:

kick is nice and grunty.. the way i like them

cosmic synths sound could do with being reverbed a bit more so it sits in the mix a bit better.

percs are sbutle and good. maybe a little dry...

break - really original sound. quite psy.. i like

main build. it is quite good drive wise. the break beat that follows seams very 'push' with the melodies and percs. but a bit more grungyer. works really well!

i love this break. id quite like to hear a fred baker style tech trancer with this break! maybe do a dub tech version without melodies in the main sections?

overall this is original and pretty cool

ps. i saw it on armins ftp..

keep it up mate

rich

I like that effect in the intro.

Nice percs.

I really like the shouting effect that you use in place of a crash cymbal. Really trippy.

Break is grooving. I really like that.

When things get pumping it's very trancey. I'm liking this, but there are still more than three minutes left! What next?

Oooh, I like this mid-range chord progression.

Good stuff. This is a track to remember.

Posted by Subtle on Jun-01-2006 23:27:

Rich: i might make a dub version, thanks.. and yeah i uploaded it to Armins ftp, one can never have enough promotion..

Thoughtlessjex: thanks for the comment, im glad you liked the track

Downloading, will post a review later on.

EDIT:

Subtara - Green Beret

First pro of this track, very dj friendly.
Nice beefy bassline, but I think it should be left in the middle more, I think it is too wide.
I hear the intro arps now, really old school arp sounds, they remind me of the arps used by 2 Unlimited back in the days.
3:00 mark, breakbeats time. Simple but solid.
I can tell you targeted old school sounds for this production.
6:30 mark another break, new lead sound, same breakbeats, I hope you are really building for something explosive this time, but no, it didn't happen for methis time, yes youintroduced a new arp sequence, but that is pretty much it.

I def don't like that WIDE bassline, it could use one that is centered, equally beefy but centered, it makes the track feel weak.

Sry but this is not a keeper for me, it has some nice ideas, but a track works or not, and this one don't, in my opinion.

didnt actually notice ur comment :P

yeah the bassline is definitely wide, i noticed that too, but i didnt really pay much attention to it..

and yeah.. i simply just added a note to the already made arp.. and i too could wish for something more explosive indeed.. sometimes, the simplest solutions arent necessary the best

thanks for good feedback

As all the others already have said, A good production but a teeny weeny bit same same all the way. On the other hand that is all up for scraps as it tends to depend on who is listening. Some like it some don't. As for me, I would like to hear this one at the dancefloor anytime, but as Spaniard said, in a sligtly compressed version, maybe.

Your friendly ghost of mozart.

I liked it mate, not my favorite of yours mind... the madonna remix still floats my boat

The drum patterns as people have said are awesome, the bass kicks my face of nicely too! I didn't find the melodies repetitive either, liked em actually. 3/5 for me matey

Hey... I liked this track... although it was a bit long and repetitive for my taste. The atmosphere of the track was really nice, and the arpeggios worked really well. Good work!!

Cheers, Lakeus
