if you were a dj, what style would you play?

I would play uplifting and tech-trance, think this are the styles with most engergy among the trance styles.

i'd try to incorporate just about anything and everything good into one style. but whatever it ended up coming out as it'd be one funky bass-driven dirty nasty mess...

id play naked.

Well I am a DJ (sort of, just bedroom and I need to get my skills, collection up, haven't done a gig yet. I consider myself more of a mixer because I don't really DJ for anyone besides myself, will eventually get to putting up more/better mixes on here once I get my collection and skills up).

If I was just warming up or playing in some bar i'de play a variety of spacey downtempo and ambient to start out with, and work my way up to deep, melodic progessive trance/house/breaks but nothing too full on. I'de play like some of the stuff i've been into lately like Snake Sedrick and Jay Lumen and Retroid. I'de also put in a little electro in there to make things a little funkier.

If I was a headliner or playing for a packed club, i'de play funky, electro house stuff (like Sander K), mixed in with some more tribal like/rhythmic/percussive progressive house (like Hernan Cattaneo), and funky electro-breaks (like DJ Baby Anne or Icey), with some melodic progressive trance and tech trance thrown in (like Tiesto or Markus Schulz I guess). Wouldn't be a carbon copy of these guys but that's the best way of explaining what i'de play. I'm past the epic stuff...good to listen to the old stuff but I wouldn't play that in a club...

opening: really spaced out prog trance/house, electrohouse
following into: some prog trance with funk to it
peak hour: futuristic trance (MIKE/Lange/GTR stuff)

Posted by Floorfiller on Jun-03-2006 02:10:

i don't think i'd really make a good dj...because i don't think i'd finese enough...i'd just bang it out a lot...

Posted by Dj Gracjan on Jun-03-2006 02:12:

just start off kind of slower and hten hit peak and go fucking nuts

Posted by all-nite-freak on Jun-03-2006 02:14:

filthy prog electro house with a smattering of tribal and tech influences.

I would drop Marco G-Funkolicious(Mario Ochoa mix) and do the jesus pose the whole time.Who needs eq'ing when you can be a diva...ask armin and tiesto:P

Posted by Futureshock on Jun-03-2006 03:32:

A whole load of prog house I guess, mostly funky dancefloor oriented stuff and prog stuff with driving beats.

I'd mix in a bit of techno, electro, breaks and maybe even a a bit of classic trance so there's something for everyone.

As it is within the confines of my bedroom walls, I play a grey area between dark atmospheric progressive/tribal house, prog-psy and tech-trance.

Posted by emc^2 on Jun-03-2006 04:11:

dirty filthy, house a-la "sweedish house mafia" or alex morph or van dorn.

We are all Dj masters of our own bedrooms...

I'ed what I do play play slow proggy openers then build up (trance) then finish off with some harder stuff...

dirty vocal house coupled with driving nasty house.

vocals with dirtyness with driving.....mmmmm

Posted by idoru on Jun-03-2006 07:51:

Ambient (some) --> Chillout (some) --> Minimal (some) --> Deep, dark, driving, pounding Progressive House (lots) --> Dark, driving Progressive Trance (some, mainly classics) --> Techno (some)

Although in a regular set, I just spin Progressive House.

Posted by SlickT on Jun-03-2006 08:11:

smooth, sexy, deep house work in some tribal and then some tough, driving progressive would be what i'm know for. i could definitly work in some tech house and the odd electro house track.

rap

Posted by Rainborn on Jun-03-2006 12:11:

Pretty much everything, trying to fuse it all into one sound.
Funky, dark, twisted, driving/banging/energetic, techy, futuristic, downtempo, trippy etc. Everything.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Jun-03-2006 12:30:

Pretty much anything except fucking electro-prog-house.

Posted by montana on Jun-03-2006 12:39:

uhhm, dub?

Posted by noikeee on Jun-03-2006 14:56:

speed-ambient-core.

seriously, i don't know. i don't think right now i'd be able to even stick with a consistent style. i'd be all over the place and tracks wouldn't fit.

would play around

deep house
tech house
atmospheric/melodic/deep techno (voorn, kowalski, d'void..)
electro that isn't electro
minimal with a bit of melody
whatever eric prydz produces
acid
maybe a touch of old trance

Hard Trance and Electro House

Posted by AY STAR on Jun-03-2006 15:57:

then as the night goes on i would play some trance simmilar to jon o bir's style

Posted by DOOMBOT on Jun-03-2006 16:17:

Your style will change more then you know. Trust me.

Rght now, I'm playing more Prog House and Prog Trance. Couple months ago I was 100% trance. What a roller coaster ride dj'ing is. It's fun!

Posted by Kaveh on Jun-03-2006 16:34:

anything but trance.
