Windows Vista Beta 2 publically avaliable

Microsoft publically released the Windows Vista Beta 2 today. You will need a Microsoft Live ID as well as 1.0 GHz processing power, 512 MB RAM, DirectX9. Check it out by visiting MS' Vista site, but beware, servers have been swamped all day.

Looks interesting. Fancy new graphics, useful features... I wonder how many bugs and security loopholes it'll have.

My mates office has been running Vista for the last couple of months and from what he says it's pretty nice and stable but you need lots and lots of processing power and ram to make it run smoothly though.

just started downloading it now, looking forward to trying this out
i'm going to buy another hard drive and install it on that so i can keep my XP setup seperate just in case (would of partitioned but not enough space).

p.s i noticed if you select the 'downlaod with your own download manager' it's just a direct link that seems to always work, unlike the 'Akamai Download Manager' version.

I'd have to say I'm sceptical mainly because of all of the bugs & holes there usually are. Until this is proven to be stable & solid & compatible, i'll give it a miss

Posted by THE_Chris on Jun-09-2006 12:50:

I've heard rumours that Vista is a total cop out and most of the promised features have been scrapped or cut back severely.

Apparently its security is really annoying, with up to six popup boxes to delete even a shortcut.

Halo 2 PC is gonna be Vista only I think, which will get lots of people to upgrade.

I'm sticking to XP for the time being tho.

Beta's aren't meant to be uber stable, and without many bugs.

That's why it's beta.

long live linux. seems like vista will be requiring most people to upgrade their PC just run it. Windows is not a program, Windows is there to make everything else work, it is not required to eat the resources of a high class 3d game.

that's why cool people don't get OS's at all. Save some RAM!

oh come on, unless youre a mac/*nix user, you're gonna end up using it eventually. i remember saying the same thing about windows XP

Posted by Aquarian on Jun-10-2006 01:31:

Except XP was a big improvement on every prevous version of windows - especially millenium!

Posted by venomX on Jun-10-2006 02:56:

XP wasnt that big of an improvement on Windows 2000, mostly it was just on driver issues and compatibility, the stability of XP relies alot on the solidness of 2000. Also when linux gets a good enough driver base and games i wouldnt mind using it. And yes i've used various distributions for a while but it gets annoying after a while, ever heard of user friendliness?

i heard from some people that its actually gonna kick ass when it comes out...

I installed it and checked it out this week. Looks pretty slick and lots of cool window effects.

probably more than most people can count whilst sober

I heard that Vista didn't allow you to play mp3s that you don't legally purchase...

is this hearsay or is there any truth in this? I'm assuming the former.

That's spot on.

A bit disappointing but what can you do?
