PUSH - UNIVERSAL NATION (richard gale rmx)

i put together a rmx of my all time favourite trance track. universal nation. base on my new electrogenix alias..

i went for dreamy and dark in my representation.

im not looking for a comparisson between the this and the orig. i know nothing will ever come close to the orig.

its available for download on my site HERE!!!!! @128kbps full.

hope you like it and dont feel it ruins the vibe of the original.

love to hear your views!!

rich

Hey looking forward to this mate...like what youve done with the vocals near the start..nice percussion, kick & bassline as always with you..sounds like hes saying 'pussy' after a while haha!

Nice interpretation of the melody coming in with the distorted synths..its very chilled throughout - a good alternative take on a classic..maybe lacks a bit of power, but overall very good work

tried to listen to this yesterday on your website but was taking ages to load.

anyways got it now!

good start although i think theres too much noise. beat and percs are all good as usual. mike sounding bass coming in although still has your unique touch.

good volume for the melody just sits tightly waiting to be introduced. lovely pluck for it too. quite original sounding. reminds me a lot of the original but a 2006 remake.

second breakdown is my favourite really universal nation here. would maybe add a pad in though just have it floating about the mix as im waiting to here one of your melodic pads.

good efx useage also. has the lead back feel of the original. the tap your feet and move your head rhythm.

you done it justice a few additions to it to give it your style.

looking forward to updates!

cheers

kane

ahoy matey ,

reviewing as i listen...
nice percussions they are placed well. are you the one singing in the track? cool. bassline at 1:00 sounds cool, 2:25 OMG i love this tune!! the melody is so sexy man. the kick sounds well mastered. it must have been hard to make a remix of the track you like so much.. im always afraid while remixing i might destroy the track... man i love the electronic bassline with the melody it has a kind of dark effect wich i like.. the way you keep this track minimal is very good. it doesnt get boring at all. this track has to be the best from you so far!! good job man.

Hey Richie, took fucking ages to down load , i got 10kbps. I'll host your next tracks for you if you want..

Like the white noise at the start, gives a great warmth to the track.
Sounds like he is saying pussy lol.
Not sure about the bassline, perhaps something a bit more driving might work, but perhaps that is not the aim of the track.
Nice break here, very wistful sounding, although the sound could be widened a little.
In many ways it's quite like the original, but it gets a bit samey after a while, a bit more variation could work.
Personally for me it's a little slow drive wise, but it's still a good remix.
good work man, but not as good as your last song.

Hey Rich, sorry for the late review, but here it comes

haha, it really sounds like he's saying pussy

It feels like the track is empty, it's just the "standard" things included, nothing more, nothing less if you see what i mean.
It's repetetive aswell, i'm getting tired quite fast.

So what i like about this is the laidback style, very relaxing...
The percussions is also good. The "gale stamp" again

Overall an ok mix, but nothing special

Posted by JakeC on Jun-29-2006 12:25:

This is also my favourite tune of all time.

The main thing that stands in the intro out is the vocal sample, i dont like it. The snare/clap seems a bit too forward in the mix but i think thats due to the reverb.

The breakdown is the essential part of the original but this is a bit empty in comparison. I dont like how the riff was took out when the kick came in as it made me think that you got bored or lost your creativity as it becomes a loop.

Overall the track is a bit boring as its basically the same all the way through. All the elements are extremely basic and this is why i came to the conclusion of getting bored.

5/10

Definitely your style, I dunno about the bass. I know it's a richard gale sound, but I don't think it fits the track that well. Nice mellow track, but for me it doesn't suit my tastes. Get boring fairly quickly due to the simplicity of everything. Your percs and kick are spot on as always, except I think the percs could use a more driving feel. That's just my personal tastes. Great chillout track, but I think more could be added to fill it up and lose the boringness. Maybe add some wild soundscapes or something I dunno. It's 9:30am, I haven't slept and I'm listening to Freak Nasty - Da Dip. So sleepy...great job anyways, but imo it could use some work.

Posted by The Drow on Jun-29-2006 20:02:

The bass is very electroish.
I'm not sure if it's any good.
lol it is saying pussy
The long bass is nice.
You need a gated clap here, the fxed snare alone just don't do it for me.
2:20 Breakdown comes to early...
Nice use of the melody. I like the synth.
The break is really minimalistic, try to add more to it.
You need more precussions.
Add more pads and more elements.
You have nice chilled atmosphere but it's getting boring.
How did you make the lead?

7/10

you guys. thought this thread dies long ago

anyways.

thanks. alll the criticals i know what ya mean. i played it as an intro track in my last dj set and it went down well but i noticed levels were a bit over the place.. i have made some changes to it and it is much better now.

omer - the lead is played on my keyboard. i belive if i remember using vangard for the original sound. i used distorsion then a filter and then a gate and now the sound is a lot different than when it came out of vangard.

I'm not a big fan of that distorted synth you used, but it sounds pretty good.

wish you'd just posted a direct link...
and your server is really really slow...

ok, it's almost done (only wrote the above cause I had a lot of time whilst it was downloading)

I like a bit of mike..

still downloading..

crunchey kick - we like.
closed hat on offbeat - we don't like.

percs - a little dry for my taste
lol - it does say pussey.

not a big fan of the droning C64 bass

intro is a little boring - goes on a little too long without any real progression.

when the main riff comes in, I'm not sure I like the way the bass goes down at the end. there isn't much build in the first break (3:15)

I like it as a starting point, but it doesn't progress very well and needs some more lush elements in it.

I like the remix as a whole, I like the slight adjustments you made on the breakdown. You bring the melody in very slowly I like that, makes the breakdown much more enticing than the original version.

But I have to ask, what is that voice saying in the background?

thanx for the reviews everyone glad some like it. i can understand the critical points. the orig is perfect and gets a lot of attention so i tried to keep it as sophisticated and minimalas i could. - dancefloor wise the rmx works quite well. kick and bassline provide a better drive than you d think. and melody being limited in the main section kept it beat driven as apposed to melody imo.

vocal... damn i noticed he is saying 'pussy' lol. anyways i re recorded the vocaland the efx made it less clear. he is actually meant to be saying "proceed with the visual attack formation.....watch this space" apparently this is what the robot says in the orig.. all i miss is that awsome "whoop!"

cheers again guys!

Weird.. I was almost certain I had already replied to this one *spooky music*

Nice punchy kick.

Intro sounds a bit dragging. Maybe it would be more interresting if it had more stuff in it.

I like the lead instrument. Fits the breakdown really well, but after that I think it would be better with a different kind of lead. This track has a very powerful melody, and this instrument just sounds a bit too 'weak' to carry it IMO.

I like what you have. But overall it feels like it's missing something. More pads maybe?
