Top 100 Producers?

how come there is no top 100 producer poll? i mean arent they just as important if not more than the dj's? i really think that someone should start a poll on this because if it wasnt for the producers how would anyone even spin anything anyway

Yes you are 100% right that they are more important than the dj themselves.

The biggest problem is that most producers do not have long careers, and there are too many one hit wonders. Its part of the 'problem' of the industry, and I think that's why DJs are so big.

A DJs career can last a lot longer becaues it's easier to play music than make it.

They should be! Most DJ play over 95% of track that where produce by another guy !
Someone should start one or ask DJmag to incoporate one on the next top 100 DJ pool.

yeah thats a good point but if its only the top ones from the year that shouldnt be a problem. dont you think?

It wouldn't be too different than a dj poll, because most of my favourite deejays happen to be producers as well...but it would be interesting to see some of the names listed if one existed.

be nice .... there is no reason for that

i think thats a little too big of a list to compile imo. maybe a top25 or 50 max, think about it..... dj to producer ratio must be something rediculous like 20/1.

Posted by Skipper on Jul-06-2006 20:32:

There is no top 100 producers poll because people would have to know something about music to answer. Not so with the DJ poll.

quick question.... off the top of your head, how many producers can you name. then ask yourself the same question for dj's.

ding!

plus im glad they dont as it would make ,me sick to see tiesto , armin , and pvd as 1-2-3

lets not forget that many producers release tracks under different identities.

im still cant wait to find out who the "big name" is behind the rekorder releases

and you would be suprised at how many just look at top 10's by genre and consider themselves connaisseurs.Maybe the reason why aspiring vdj/abbleton bedroom dj's seem to always have similar tracklists

this is why i don't like beatport and what they do. On one hand it's great because they've made the music so much more accessible. But on the other hand, DJ's lose a lot of what would make them unique. There's no equivalent to the "rare vinyl release" anymore.

why does everyone think that people are so clueless about music? i talk to many people that know plenty about music. are you speaking about yourselves too then? are you saying you dont know anything about music either because there are millions of people just like you out there.

Why do I think people are clueless about music?
Because they voted tiesto #1 for years in a row. (how many was it - 2? 3?)

I talk to a bunch of people who know a lot about music too because most of my friends are DJs or have been heavily involved in electronic music for years. the majority of people out there partying to electronic music don't know enough about it to identify the top producers on the scene, though.

but i think with producers it would be different because many of these people dont even know what the word producer means... yes it is sad that tiesto and all the other trance djs win these votes all the time but i just dont think that they should get all the credit over the producers.

i want to see some recognition for these people because they deserve it. its the same thing with the majority of the people who vote for the top 100 dj's as well. most of them dont know anything either. thats the way it will always be but there are those people who do know just because the majority dont know anything does not mean that it shouldnt even be done. thats just my opinion though i guess.
