My review of Dance Valley 2006

i only had a saturday ticket, so the review covers saturday only.
as for review itself...

holy shit. where do i begin?

i got to the train station in sloterdijk (in amsterdam vicinity) at around two o'clock in the afternoon. there we had to walk to the buses with specific designation to dance valley. on the bus i met an american couple, currently living in amsterdam. when we got off the buses, there was an incredibly long walk to the site itself, but i could hear the bass coming trough already.
once we got there, there was a huge wide line, which made us wait for about half an hour. there was just a huge amount of people going in; they had at least 10 ticketing lines in the end. however, at the entrance, dj makcim was throwing down some nasty, and techy, and dirty house tunes, which kept you dancing through the whole wait.

once we got in i realized that in order to buy drinks you had to purchase stupid plastic coins, and for food, they had different ones.

well anyways, we headed straight to the main stage. danny howells was throwing some mad proggy tunes. there was a considerable amount of people already. on our way through L.E.F. stage, I saw RvG with his techy style ripping it up. i felt like staying at the main stage but cosmic gate was up at eurogrooves. at first they played some good tunes, but later they started playing too many anthems and some of the overplayed tunes like "i feel wonderful" and so on. on my way to eurogrooves, judge jules was throwing it down with some house and trance at L.E.F. again. i decided to go back to the main stage where hernan cattaneo was playing some really dancy and bouncy house. after him, mauro picotto came on. goddamn, u miami ta's are right, he knows how to keep you dancing with his mix of techno and techy house. i wanted to stay there as usual, but ferry was up at L.E.F. stage. i wasn't sorry when i left; ferry was indeed loud electronic and ferocious. he played tunes like fire, star traveller, direct dizko and many many more that i did not recognize. there i met a group of canadians from toronto (yeah, real guvvy-type party people, hehe) with whom my adventures continued.

next bits of review will be frowned upon by all house haters like da and some others, but i'll put them in here anyway.

after ferry, we went to see carl cox. dance floor was packed beyond belief, probably like tiesto at space on 18+ night. we struggled our way to the front. he also played direct dizko like ferry but at much slower tempo. pretty much every single tune was amazing. i just kept and kept on dancing despite my thirst. i did not even want to leave to get a drink, lol. after carl cox, erick morillo was playing at the subliminal tent. he was so so, one half of his tunes were really good, other half were more sleep-inducing than morphine. our big group decided to get a break on the lawn with some food, drinks, etc.

after taking a break, we decided to head back to the main stage, where the star of the night and still my #1 dj, armin van buuren was about to start playing. as i was walking down the big hill which lead to the main stage, they were announcing armin. he started with svd remix of control freak and the whole dance maddness began. pretty much every tune, except maybe one or two, were amazing. i did not recognize the majority of them, since i've been slacking on my tune id skills lately, but you ta's would definitely id them. ones that i have id'd were o'callaghan and kearney - exactly and communication (at the "official" end of the set). i never danced so hard before. he did play for about extra half an hour with some remix of "sweet dreams", which was also really good.

after dance valley ended, our adventures in music were not over. our group headed out to amsterdam, where sander kleinenberg and sasha were playing back-to-back at club panama. u honestly don't see that combination happening very often. somehow i managed to get in for free. i only found out lately that u had to pay 20 euros. Woops!
anyway, again, these two were ripping it up like crazy. even sasha played higher energy tunes than usual. two of them complemented each other: sander smiled and interacted with the crowd most of the time, and sasha had his usual half-pissed-off and buried-into-mixer face. at five o'clock in the morning, this whole day of madness was over. half awake, i managed to get on foot to the central station and then took the next train to germany.

by the way, i only woke up about two hours ago.

as for pictures, i again forgot my damn camera, but there is one picture of our group, taken by www.partyflock.nl

There are more photos of the event on that website.

Yeah but after the deed is done you begin to think about your significant other and feel empty inside. I just don't suggest fucking Armin, no matter how much it rocks in the moment.

Good review. It looks like you heard a lot of good music on your one day.

It is not surprising at all to hear that both Armin and Ferry played great trance sets. As for Picotto, he always brings it nasty, especially when you get a dark room hard techno set like he plays in Space's main room. Outdoors he usually tones it down a little. If he played hard you will know it by the fact you cannot feel your legs from dancing so much.

And Carl Cox is far from mainstream house, so "house haters" can and some do actually appreciate what he brings. Every time he plays down here at Crobar he plays very energetic techno/tech house/acid house, and destroys the place. While I like trance most, I highly recommend checking Carl Cox out. If you like good beats and a great vibe, you will not be disapppointed seeing him live.
