PlayItTonight.com - thoughts?

Hey guys,

Sean Gallagher here.

I wanted you guys to be the first to see the new www.playittonight.com since this is a Vancouver based store!

As many of you know I have been working on this for a while and it is finally up!

We have signed a ton of big name labels and will start getting them up for sale in the weeks to come.

I wanted to get your thoughts on the new site. What do you like and what don't you like?

www.playittonight.com

~Sean

Great job Sean !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just wanted to say , way to go Sean . Digital downloads are the way of the future, i think you have jumped in at the right time , when people are starting to get comfortable with the idea .

Posted by apri_peel on Jul-21-2006 23:50:

the site looks quite nice
organized

sean, werent you toying with the idea on the pacific rim label? or was that just replaced?

Posted by PlayItTonight on Jul-22-2006 03:41:

Yeah.I was doing my own thing and my partner (Dj Timeline) was doing Playittonight.com. We decided to partner up. I brought my new site over with the label I had signed. he brought the brand, the url, the customer base and his labels.

If you guys have things that you don't like about the site let me know and we might change them. We are constantly going to be re-doing and adding new features.

It was a smart decision overall.

Anything you guys can buy will help.

Thanks for the support!

AHA - you have a few hard-to-find artists there. Who shall remain unnamed.

Is there any way to pay direct in CDN $ rather than get hosed on a US $ conversion by the credit card companies or PayPal?

please offer wave downloads... its the only way i will buy... i dont mind paying extra.

wave downloads are why beatport is the only digital site i buy from... otherwise i buy vinyls and rip them to waves for cdj use

i like the play history in your music player so you can go back to check out previous listens... nice touch

would be nice to see vandit's catalog for trance and joia's catalog for house.

Posted by Prism on Jul-24-2006 14:48:

some good tunes I was able to find right away, nicely done Sean I wish you well with the website.

Posted by tvmann on Jul-24-2006 17:09:

I noticed that a few tracks are too expensive. For example Nalin & Kane - Beachball, $3.60 at PlayItTonight, $1.49 at Beatport. They are different mixes but still that is a big difference. Similar with some old Mr. Scruff tracks I was looking for, $2.49 but it is $1.49 at BP.

I play 99% MP3s and have yet to find any quality problems with commercial downloads or my own CD conversions. For a small premium I would get WAV mostly just for backup insurance so I can maybe convert them later to whatever formats become the standard.

Some of the prices are out of our control. For example that "beachball" track is under 3-beat records label management and 3 beat demands that we charege that much. Beatport has 3beats tracks for cheap because it singed a deal with 3beat that says that they can sell their tracks for 1.49 but they can't sell new releases for two weeks after their release date. This is why beatport has some cheaper prices. Our customers want the new releases and you'd be suprised to know that 3beat had our top selling labels even though they are priced @ $3.60 per track.

Mylse: As far as wavs go, there isn't enough demand for them yet to warrant us making them available on the store. When it really comes down to it the human ear can barely recognize the difference between a well mastered MP3 and a wav file on a loud system and wav files are 10 times as big. This doesn't make sense for us from a business standpoint. Infact, a lot of the big names prefer MP3s because they believe that they are more compressed and thus sound better on a big system than wavs.

We'll do our best to get vandit and Joia up!

This is such BS!!!

This statement is complete garbage from someone pushing a retail store

You are obviously deaf already from monitor mixing with an eon 2 feat from your head. Your statement above is just plain flat out ignorant fo the the basic of sound and physics behind how your ears and how speakers and how even indeed records and recordings work.

Don't even think about throwing around your bullshit our direction. We will take you out and we will take you to task. Digital DJing is what is killing dance music, not to mention making people deaf if you and others like you think Mp3s are better on large sound systems because they are "compressed". Fuck you and your big names statements. It's crap.

I'm with Lithium, I'll take wav over mp3 anytime.

I remmeber you. You sent me nasty emails already. There is no need for such negitivity. Sure you make some good points about how CDs have led to the demise of vinyl but there is no need for a personal attack.

You with your die-hard vinyl or nothing beliefs are a dying breed my friend!

Posted by tvmann on Aug-04-2006 01:54:

Oh it's the return of the semi-annual Lithium anti-digital rant!

He previously called for people to go forth & yank out the cables of any non-vinyl DJ equipment being used in public.

Such as this setup that has 4 laptops:

Posted by 35 and hooked on Aug-04-2006 01:58:

OH BOY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lithium is off his meds again , WATCH OUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Posted by djlithium on Aug-04-2006 02:35:

You guys have your heads stuck so far up these wankers from the EU's asses you can't even hear any more. You beleive everything iDJ or mixmag tells you. You worship the ground these guys walk on. WELL GUESS WHAT.

They are just here to take your money.

Also, I still think you are on crack for confusing mastering audio compression (not the same thing) with mp3 compression and that some how according to the big boys (and who exactly are you speaking with on this subject?? care to drop some names there spacecase?? - give me some fucking FACTS to back up your claim...) and that is why you deserve absolutely zip for respect.

GO AWAY. Pacific rim digital. Wankfest 3000 more like. Same with playittonight.com Any 12 year old with the right walk and talk can get a digitial distributor to give them a retail sales account. You are NOT unique. And you are also completely out to lunch.

Vinyl dying??? that is again the perpetuated myth by people like you. We just banged out 3 records in the past 2 months and I am having trouble keeping up with demand and all the people who come to us from all over the world who want vinyl for their releases. Not some consumer format discount dance music deal.
When I speak with other label owners and pool managers, its the same story.

And I have no problems backing that up with FACTS. The best music right now, in the history of trance, is coming out on WAX! because the digital front is so saturated with garbage and armin van borings latest commerical cheese fest people who are producing, djing and releasing records want to steer as clear away from that non-sense as possible.

Think about it, it makes sense.

Now when it comes to your distorted ideas about how sound works... we already know you are an idiot.

Lithium you and your record label can go to hell....Within a few years you will be bankrupt you stupid fuck!
