girls stink
ive got to get something off my chest; i got into producing trace a year ago because of a girl... she's a trance fanatic, i enjoyed the music aswell, and then i had this bright idea to impressing her
i wasn't aware of it back then, i just figured that it must be something i wanted to do all along, in the same way i baught these really expensive roller blades just because... well, the point is there's nothing left but bad memories, and all this useless equipment.
the rollerblades have adjusted quite well actually, they are fun once you learn to stop, good for your overall health and the dog is finally challenged. but these synths, midi controllers, soundcards, monitors, studio monitors, soundproofing, sound treatment, whateva... none of it has a point anymore.
in what light do you produce? what is it that motivates you? can you really tell that special someone to fuck off for the rest of the night, im composing a piece, and its not for you? what is it for?
I think you need to ask yourself if you love producing or not and if you don't, then give it a shot you might just end up liking it. I personally produce because I love producing and channelling myself through music. It's a kickass hobby and I wouldn't give it up for anything in the world.

simple fact if you dont feel the need to produce dont produce.
i can get u two hot girls for ur gear!!!
hmmmm...2 girls? 2 hot girls? eh...
hey boy I'll get you 4 CZECH girls...for all your gear
but I want the rollerblades too
It's either in you or it's not!
i love the feeling of creating a killer breakdown and buildup, sends shivers down my spine
I produce (well, try anyway) simply because I enjoy it and I don't think anyone should produce unless it's for that reason. IMO, it's a fun, healthy hobby where you can see results of your work so it doesn't feel like you're just using it to kill time.
Re: girls stink
First of all, buying a fully fledged, acousticly treatmented studio after producing for only a year was a VERY bad idea, especially since it's not something that has been your dream for a long time.
The synths are not useless if you USE them! if production is not for you, then sell it and find another hobby that you actually like.
And who do we produce for, you say?? What is it all for? Well, how about ourselves! That's the only sane and logical reason for doing anything in life, to satisfy yourself! (even when you help others, it's because you love them, and you feel good when you help those you love.) Don't do things for the wrong reasons, be sure that it's what you really want. You shouldn't force yourself to do anything you don't want to, just because you think someone else might like it...
Your problem is not related to music production, you simply have an askew view of life. Learn to live for yourself, finally then can you start living for others.
(feeling a bit philosophical today...
)
If you enjoy it, do it.
If not, forget about it...
i know how he feels... i started off wanting to be a dj, cuz my ex-gf used to visit a club regularly (we already broke up at that time). so, i tried all sorts of dj'ing programs out there but to no avail. then i stumbled across a loop based program and played around with it and somehow finished a less than 2min mini track and got very excited about it. and so i finished 3-4 tracks with loop based program and finally got into some real producing with fruity. i used fruity before that, but couldn't understand a single shit and gave up. and with the girl in my head, i was motivated to learn the tool back then and am very glad that she brought music into my life (although we are still friends now). right now i produce for my own, and for the sake of my friends who had supported me since the loop-based track days.
djsmirnoff: i hope you don't give up just yet, just give yourself some time off and do keep the hardwares you've invested in. give it a second chance... not everyone is as lucky as you are.
Fuuny thing..
I produce for a hobby, and personal enjoyment for the last decade... But here is sommeting I find funny. I met my girlfriend thrue a friend, who protended to be me. He accually said he makes tunes and he use to send my studio pictures with him in it, thrue msn to this chick. He liked her and she liked that he was into trance. Well than they finally met, and what a suprize.. He told here he sold of the studio, which wasn't eaven his.. And they become just friends, casue he wasn't boyfriend material after all. She met me, not eaven knowing I make any music, but she had a good time with me, since I like trance.. So i use to go out to the clubs with her to see armin, tiesto, ferry and the rest.. and bam, we fall in love, got married have a beautiful doughter. My wife eaven knows how to use cubase, and knows most of the synths, and some other gear by name. hehehe, But I would never make music to impress any chick, I do it for my own personal pleasure. If she like's it, it's a bonus. My wife eaven got me a jp8080 for my b-day, so I can't complain.. Anyways take it easy with the chick's dude.. I just wanted to share this story with you guys.Ohh and at 30 years old we still go out to see armin and the rest

I have better.
Ad in Loot...
"Singer wanted for signed trance act. No timewasters"
Singer showed up, I wound up marrying her (5 years now) and we have a 4 year old daughter. Life is great..
cool... marriage = girls + music
yeah, impressing a gf with material / the fact you make choons is a pretty f*cked up reason to produce.
jesus mate.
thats sure was an expensive piece of pussy! - i hope you at least got some?
at least you re getting fun out of your blades...
You should shoot yourself. I reccomend .40 S&W .45 or bigger will just make too much of a mess. Anything smaller might leave you still alive and worthless.
and here's my little Love Story:
My wife used to be a co-worker: since we were both into clubbing and parties (I was already producing EDM for about 15 years) we went to Dance Valley (NL) 7 years ago, kissed and fell in love.
We are now together for 7 years, married for one year, have a 3,5 year old son and another child due in 1,5 weeks.
I guess EDM brings people together!
BTW: my wife thinks it's very sexy when I produce slammin' tracks !
BB
When I got into it it was purely for the fun of it, but impressing my ex was a welcome bonus.

Girls only stink when they dont wash :P.
Doing anything to impress a chick is a no go ,at the end of the day if a girl isnt into you then she will never be into you.
Producing is for yourself, for me its my time to escape from all the troubles in my life or to put happy times into the form of music.
i started producing because i was djing for so long and i wasnt happy with the tracks around so i said i want to make something that i will play.
my girl is into trance anyway so that helps but it itsnt/wasnt a necessity. although having her support is a bonus as she tells me if something is good or shit and having someone to tell you to keep at it is always good.
the main thing for me is knowing that i can make a track. sounds like boasting but everybody is the same. if you didnt think you could produce you wouldnt bother. now im just enjoying it coming up to my first year producing and i hope theres many more left in me.
