Exclamation Paul van Dyk`s 'Avenue of Stars'. PLEASE POST ALL YOU KNOW ABOUT THIS!

Hello,

I have started researching more information on this lost album once again, but this time I will try harder!!!

Now, I don`t know if you know or don`t know about this album. If you do, I need you to make a post here on what you DO know.

I appreciate this a lot.

Thank you.

Many Greetings,

it was supposed to be his 3rd album but was never released due to legal problems..

the following was written in the sept 99 issue of muzik mag.. not much, but something....

-----
the non-appearance of his long-awaited third album, 'avenue of the stars' currently rests in the hands of the lawyers after a messy 18 month dispute with his former german label, mfs.

pvd then says 'there was a point where i was just like, 'fuck it, i dont want to do music anymore'," he confides. "people say, 'yeah it must have been your year, you got bigger and bigger', but the thing is this little step we took, we got a fucking hurricane blast back in out faces: people ripping things off, bootlegs, so much lawyer bullshit, so many things i had to take care of and wasn't prepared to take care of."
------

wow good thing he didnt let that set back discourage him from producing anymore!

hmmm legal problems with the record label mfs i assume..

"people ripping things off, bootlegs, "

my guess is some of his trusted friends from MFS tried to make money on the side by bootlegging and selling them and he probably took them to court for doing that?!?!?!?!!!

I hate this 'Reeder' guy.

hrrhrrr... Because of him I don`t have Avenue of Stars.

HELL to him!

Posted by sykadelik on Mar-10-2002 15:37:

Is that article pretty new. Wot I mean is when it refers to march does it refer to march this year is it last year. Cos I was just wondering wot the outcome of that case was if it was last year.

Always pisses me off when I think about it cuz this means theres a whole album of PvD material that we can't hear.

I remember in that interview when we asked Paul questions mine was, "will 'avenue of stars' ever get released?". Pauls response was along the lines of "I'm really busy now but once I get the chance I'll try to get it released although it will be really difficult."

I think its a bunch of bullshit that theres great music and we can't hear it because a bunch of lawyers and shit. My guess is someday we'll be able to hear it but probably not soon.

Smile

I'll try to sort this mess out for you ppl. Mark Reeder was the boss of MFS......pvd's label from 92-97. Okay......after seven ways....techically in the contract between mfs and pvd.....he had one more album to make for them. Well things soured between reeder and paul van dyk and they started to not like each other. so paul makes an album for reeder then leaves and forms vandit records. Paul plans to release "avenue of stars" on vandit, but reeder gets mad saying the album that he was given was outtakes and crap. So reeder sues pvd for the rights to the album saying that really that the contract between them is still valid because what reeder got was crap and he should get the rights to the album. So a legal battle ensues....lasting about a year and during this time, pvd somehow manages to release another way and avenue even tho...those songs were tied up in this mess. In the end, the court rules that pvd did fulfill his obligations to MFS and reeder and the contract is finished. So the german courts award pvd......ownership and rights to avenue of stars. Pvd is pissed off because a man he once thought was a friend has backstabbed him and taken him to court for the rights to an album. Now avenue of stars was supposed to be the progression between seven ways and out there and back. So because of reeder's souring relationship with pvd.......pvd makes his own label and becomes his own boss. PVD will probably release it sooner or later, one of these yrs but he is still unhappy that a former friend took him to court for an album that pvd felt was his. So that is what happened.....probably very close in reality to her.

Ok, here`s what I found out:

1. One of the tracks from the album was played by PvD furing his Mayday 1999 set. Info taken from here!

2. It is said that the first song played by PvD in his essential Mix from 2nd.November 1997 is called "Avenue" and is from that Album. It is said that this song was released as the AA side of Another Day. Info taken from here!

Hope this helps a bit,

Sir. Lunchalot

im not sure, but i always thought there was a EP or a 5 Track Album that was never released due legal reasons. I think there were some unlicensed remixed or something else.... But im not sure...

And Avenue as trackname was known to me, too.

Okay, here comes. Avenue of Stars was supposed to be the follow up to Seven Ways. For some reason it didn't get released. Then Paul Van Dyk came out with his next album, Out There and Back. He decided not to release the previous album, Avenue of Stars, because it would be too late. Avenue of Stars contained the singles Avenue of Stars and Another Way. Paul changed the name of Avenue of Stars to Avenue and changed the intro and outro of it, and put both songs on the Out There and Back CD. Notice how the vinyl doesnt have those 2 tracks. Thats all I know

Many Thanks Raccoon.

if only that lawyer could open his safe and rip it for us eh
id like to see POW get there hands on that
hehe seriously though it would be so good for paul van dyk NOW if he had that album released imagine the publicity and intrest it would generate im by no means saying he did it delibiratly or deserves this to happen but if you think about it its not all bad for him now if he managed to releae it (which is very doubtfull apparantly) he would get a HUGE intrest everyone would be wanting a bit fo the 'missing' work action its like a whole chapter from a amazing artist who wouldnt be intrested

ermm... Do you think POW gets all? If you do, you're 100% wrong...

If the lawyers open the safe, I`ll be the first in there raping it!

no i was just using a ripping group to illustrate my point

Posted by [DJK] on Mar-11-2002 07:00:

From what i hear none of u know the tracklist of this album? So how do u know that Paul didn't just change the name to 'Out There And Back' ? Okay, maybe not that much but i'm sure there are other tracks from 'Avenue Of Stars' that he put into OTAB, apart from Another way and Avenue. I mean 'All I Need' is NOT on the vinyl either!

Starfox : can u tell PvD NOT TO MIX his artist albums

thank you.

Hello DJK,

Im sorry to say, but Paul doesn`t like to make unmixed albums. That`s why he make a releases of it on Vinyl.

Many Greetings,

Sorry but.....

Starfox,

You said you talk to 'Paul' - why don't you ask him this? I'm sure we'd all like to know the answer.

My understanding was that Out There And Back was the produce of what he was legaly able to grab back from MFS, the rest you'll not hear but my guess is that a majority of it is on the Out There And Back album. Many people will have unknowingly heard this material in sets from that time.

'Face to Face' is supposed to be a representation of how PvD feels about how much of a shame it is that this all had to go through the courts - it would have been better to sort it out 'Face to Face'.

DJK - No way can PVD not mix his artist albums - that would suck!!

Jarv

PS: Fox - why don't you resond to my email!! I have another story to tell you.....!

Posted by Widget on Mar-11-2002 13:37:

Foxy,

I asked him about it in the interview we did, his answer:

"
Q: The "Avenue of Stars" album, is it going to be released at all?

A: I don't think so. You have to see that this album got blocked off by my former record company in Germany and the legal problems there. In a way, its the missing link between the "Seven Ways" album and "Out There and Back", so to release it now for me would seem to be a bit odd. There are tracks on there which I might at some point go back and remix and release. I don't really know yet what to do with it. I'd rather concentrate on new things. "

- A.

im still confused do you know paul van dyk in person ? sorry im a bit slow

Posted by Jarvmeister on Mar-11-2002 14:43:

My experience is that Fox will not answer your question - I have asked him this so many times and it never gets answered.....

My guess (again) is that Fox does not know PvD personaly. The reason I say this is that Fox is quite obviously (as am I) a massive fan. PvD distances himself as far as possible from his fans when outside of clubland due to past experiences..... hope you don't mind me cutting in Starfox. Feel free to correct me on any point I have put across.

Jarv
