As a first post, let me see if I can do some damage control here before this thread gets too big and no one reads beyond the first page.

1) BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING ELSE: GO TO DISCOGS. Look up your favourite DJ, and take note of his aliases. A problem in past years was multiple aliases of the same DJ making the charts. Don't do that. Stop being stupid.

2) PRODUCERS ARE NOT DJS! Just because you like a song that some miscellaneous guy made somewhere does not make him automatically an awesome DJ. In fact, in most cases, producers are rather lousy DJs. Don't submit producers.

3) This is the TOP DJs POLL, not a FAVOURITE SONG I CURRENTLY LIKE POLL. Don't submit artists of hot tracks being caned in the clubs these days.

4) If you can't name five DJs that are actually good, much less whom you've actually heard (live), don't vote. You simply don't know enough about electronic music to make a qualified and informed opinion. Because we know who you're going to put in those final few spots since you can't think of anyone else, and it doesn't help such a bastion of objectivity like this fucking popularity contest.

5) 99% of all the DJs out there in any given genre are interchangeable, and none of you could tell the difference between them if a shower curtain were draped around the decks. Big name DJs are almost always grim dissapointments...they don't play new, unusual or obscure music, they just play their own records and push the records of their friends, their record labels, and affiliates on their booking agencies. They're not even DJs really.......they're personalized spammers; human advertisements hawking their own swag.

Any competent local in any given European or North American city with a few years under his belt is just as adept, and probably has a far more interesting playlist and willingly diverse musical selection than any bigname out-of-towner. So, these polls are rather meaningless. It'd be like asking people what the best TV channel is. Different cities have different channels.

6) With that said: People, at least give Z-Trip some love this year, willya? The man does so much for so little recognition.

I gotta agree with Ishkur there. I really don't give a shit about DJ polls. There are hundreds of DJs who play music i like, and as mentioned, i would probably not notice any difference between them. There are maybe a few that i would recognize due to very unique track selection styles, but i don't think i can count to five of them. I could vote for the djs whose shows i most frequently listen to or the djs i've seen live or the ones i think are cute, but that's like telling the popular dj "hey, you're this popular atm". So at the end of the day dj polls are, pointless, yes.

My humble vote:

1. James Zabiela
2. Elof
3. Jonas Steur
4. Markus Schulz
5. Menno De Jong

All choices are based on sets I heard live from these dj's this year. James Zabiela at Cafe D'Anvers was just wicked. Elof played an amazing opening set at Tomorrowland, plus he's such a cool guy.

Markus Schulz played one hell of a set at Trance Energy 2006, his set at Tomorrowland was ok too, I guess. I'm going to see him again in two weeks, I'm curious what he'll come up with then.

Then, Jonas & Menno are two great people. They're friendly, and more importantly, humble and down to earth. Thanks for playing at the BeTa Party in Ghent guys. You got my support for both this and the DJMag poll.

Goooo Belgian DJ's go!

To be honest, the only sets this year that I've truly appreciated have come from unknowns, locals DJs, amateurs and bedroom DJs who post here in the DJ promotion forum (to name a few: Kenosis, Darvin, Mon-Soon, Nokturnal, Dave King..)

I didn't, but since i believed the purpose of forums was to discuss and state personal opinions, that's what i did, i may have gotten it all wrong though.

it is... yet when it has been discussed to death, i really dont see the point in repeating what everyone else has said a billion times. specially in a forum that deals with this year after year.. peoples opinions of who is the best dj change.. yet people who hate dj polls.. dont change, we know you dont like them, we get it

Alright, let's end the when-you-should-express-your-opinion-and-when-not debate before the level of annoyance reaches critical mass.
