Your Collection Doth Betray You! (a tracklisting game thread)

This is a fun thing we like to do at another site that I want to try here

Put your music collection(mp3's, cd changer, ipod, whatever you got!) on shuffle mode and report on the first few songs it mentions, without editing out any embarrassing tracks that may pop up along the way. It makes a great read (and the playlists really suit each individual, and interesting anecdotes tend to happen), and I'd like to see what yall have lurking in your collections.

So remember: Shuffle mode, first few songs, NO SKIPPING BAD TRACKS.

Here I go!!

Likwid Skywalker - Psi Clone
This is a mix from a former local breaks DJ, really nice dude that picked up a residency in Los Angeles and I haven't heard from him since. I dont usually follow breaks but I used to get on aim and bug him to stream for me.

Yoshimoto - Du What U Do (Paul Woolford Remix)
I haven't heard of these names before, I grabbed this tune after hearing it in a stream somewhere. Its housey and has this distorted bass thingy that is really fun. I dont know this kind of music very well, and im looking for "different things", its ok, not sure if I will dig for moroe similar sounds yet or not.

A Homeboy A Hippie and a Funky Dread - Total Confusion (Confusion Mix)
Some weird goofy thing from years ago, the vocals annoy me, actually, the whole tune is pretty annoying, I guess that is what I get for digging for old things and just picking the ones with strange titles!

4 Strings - Diving (Hiver and Hammer's Differential Gear mix)
Trancer from 2002, from a compilation CD, I like it, cant really say anything about it that separates it from the many other similar sounding trancers, but oh well, it is a fun tune I guess, was surprised to hear it when it shuffled in. lyrics have a woman singing "diving into you"

Blue Alphabent - CyberTrance
Trancer from 1997, some kinda scifi sounding sample, pianos, repeating melody thingy, kinda ummmm "bouncy". Id put it in the "meh" selection, another tune from a compilation cd

Space Frog - I feel ur Pain
Another attempt at finding old tunes gone bad, Preachy vocal (I FUCKING HATE PREACHING VOCALS!), weird ribbity sounding bassy thing, from the 90's, bleh

Paul van Dyk - My World (Florin Mix)
1994, from the PvD downloads I binged on years ago, thanks starfox. Sounds like a typical 1994 pvd instrumental really, not really much standout about it, kinda mellow trancy

Beegees - More than a Woman
FUCK, I knew I'd get burned by that "no skipping bad tracks" rule. I don't know why I have this, I never listen to it, fuck you shuffle.

Kamaya Painters - Wasteland (DJ hithiker mix)
2002 trance, if you haven't seen the pattern yet, you might notice most of my trance collection ends around 2002, I like this tune though, and I am trying to get 2006 trance still, but I have trouble swimming through all the proggy stuff to find what I want, sweet wussy epic cheese is what I'm looking for, not this broody proggy mess.

Timo Maas - Help Me
2002, from the "Loud" CD. It is fun, feels refreshing after all that stuff I just shuffled through, I try to keep my collection diverse like this, but it usually ends up being half trancy and half everything else. This one kinda sounds kinda old fashioned, kinda spooky, kinda silly, like danger music from the original batman series or something, I like it.

Your turn! Doesn't have to be 10 tracks, as many as you feel like, try to put everything you have on shuffle rahter than a specific subset of your collection.

AND DONT SKIP THE EMBARRASING TUNES! I claimed the fuckin beegees, how could it get any worse?

i don't really have many mp3s honestly...or i would play

Posted by Zombie0915 on Sep-27-2006 02:29:

I copy all my cd's onto my hard drive,

you could do a cd changer or an ipod something though couldn't you?

surely you have some way to put a bunch of your stuff on random for us

Posted by AlphaStarred on Sep-27-2006 02:36:

What are embarrassing tracks? Also, should I add my entire mp3 collection to winamp and shuffle a few, or only my current playlist?

Posted by Zombie0915 on Sep-27-2006 02:41:

your ENTIRE collection, or as much of it as you can reasonably fit into one giant shuffle

And you know damn well that people only talk about the tracks that they think make them look cool on TA, I'm wanting ppl to mention all their tunes. Everyone has those tunes they dont want people knowing that they have, what are yours?

Posted by Spirit5 on Sep-27-2006 02:46:

Natious - Amber (Natious Mix)

One of my favorite tunes from the late 90s. First heard this on Sasha's Global Underground: Ibiza CD. Love the build up and then that spacey breakdown. Feels like your floating in space...love that feeling. Defnitely has a "night" feel to it.

3 Colours - 95th Street (Original Mix)

Track from 3 Colours, a progressive house producer. A good track that could work in a progressive house or more traditional house set. A bit groovy i'de say. Definitely a cool track to play near the beginning of a set. Very much a feel good track. Helps you get your groove on!

Lightscape - Inner Warmth (Original Mix)

Track from Mark Otten in 2004 I believe. A lil' more energetic than his releases under his own name, and I really love those and actually prefer them to this release. I wouldn't say this is a bad tune, but a bit average. I always debated two years ago when I had TTs whether to get this on vinyl, because I had his other releases, but I wasn't too sure. I downloaded it finally on Beatport a while back, and I like it a lil more than I did.

Subsky - Second Day (Original Mix)

A melodic and groovy progressive house track from Subsky. A lot like 95th Street from 3 Colours in that it's melodic and groovy and could work in a progressive house or a more traditional house set. Another feel good track as well. Haha I like those, they are just fun tunes that just make you get up and dance, but also have a spark of emotion in them. I like Subsky's "First Day" better though, that's just a really magical track but this is still a good release.

One more for today...

LNQ - People I Used To Know (Original Mix)

A track from last year I believe. Joni Ljunqgvist is one of my favorite producers and this track was absolutely phenomenal. Although ISOS 4 wasn't the best CD, it did contain some really great tracks from 2004 and 2005. This is a melodic progressive trance track, that has a really neat melody in it that will get stuck in your head!

That's pretty funny.

Not necessarily, I think it's mostly due to lack of interest from (most) of ta.

But, sure, I'll do it after I'm getting off my high [fukd](horse)[fukd] because I want to listen to my current playlist. Unfortunately I can't include vinyl, but I'll settle for what I have on my comp.

Haha that's hilarious! This might be embarrasing, but I actually kinda like this track....it's catchy and fun. "More than a woman, your more than a woman to me...do do do do do do do".

Posted by nchs09 on Sep-27-2006 02:57:

Junior Jack - Thrill me (Kid Cream mix)
ehhhh... its a good choon i like it

Lostep - Bruma (Pillow One mix)
i like the sasha mix... and pillow one psoted it, so i downloaded it and burned it... its an ok choon but the climax of the song is missing a little umph on this one.

Jon Carter - Humanism (Valentino Kanzyani Remix)
i like it.... hehe

Hani - Never felt this way (Behrouz & Andy toronto mix)
chooneg.. oldschool.

Robbin Thieves - The Spell (Harry Choo Choo Romero Mix)
i guess its a bit cheesy but i like

Posted by Allied Nations on Sep-27-2006 03:00:

Gonna give 'er a go... Give me a couple mins.

Posted by AlphaStarred on Sep-27-2006 03:02:

This is gonna be fun

gimme like an hour, or less.

To show more derring-do, let's include short (or long) samples of our t/l.

Posted by Allied Nations on Sep-27-2006 03:04:

This may take a while as I just searched C:/ for "*.mp3" and loaded all of them into Foobar.

Posted by keithos27 on Sep-27-2006 03:06:

Madonna - Hung Up

Faithless - We Come 1

Flash Brothers feat. Tiff Lacey - Faith In Love (John '00' Fleming Remix)

Moogwai - Viola (Original Mix)

Interesting first few songs... of those, I probably listen to none of them any more, haha... If they come up, I just keep hitting next. Although I'd probably be inclined on a random day to listen through "Viola". Keep in mind these were the first 4 songs out of 1167 in the playlist.

Posted by Cobalt on Sep-27-2006 03:09:

I'm bored.

search *.mp3
select all
winamp

First ten, leaving out livesets:

Three Drives On A Vinyl - Greece 2000 (Deniro Remix)
Interface - Monteverde
Nikola Gala - Aurelia (96kb Rip)
Chakra & Edi Mis - X-File
Braincell - Hangover (HH077)
Sasha & Emerson - Scorchio (Emerson Late Nite Dub)
Dallas Superstars - Helium (JS-16 High Energy Mix)
Galen Behr - Time Will Tell (Original Mix)
Speedy J - Tanga
Ayla - Ayla (Veracocha Mix)

Honest!

Posted by armandzadza on Sep-27-2006 03:09:

OK, my ten tracks:

1. Depeche Mode - It's No Good (BT's Twilo Mix)
Ah, whatever happened to BT of mid-90's? I can only imagine the madness of Twilo when Sasha and Digweed played that mix...

2. Rob D - Clubbed to Death
One of my first favorite electronic tracks. Used to keep it on repeat on the Matrix soundtrack for hours.

3. Astrix and Highguy - Chaos
Saw it on J00f's playlist a couple of years ago and decided to give it a shot. The kind of psy trance you used to hear at Arc at about 5AM.

4. Matthew Dekay - If I Could Fly
Never got into this track too much for some reason. Much prefer Beautiful Monday.

5. Second Sun - Empire
Paul van Dyk. Central Park Summerstage in 2003. Best build-up in trance.

6. Shakedown - Love Game (313 Dub)
Luke Fair played an edit at a Buenos Aires gig in 2004. Electro explodes in a few months.

7. Lucy Woodward - Blindsided (The Scumfrog Mix)
Free download from Scumfrog's website. Almost failed Part 1 of the CFA exam in 2003 because of this track. Sexy, sexy stuff.

8. Nightmares on Wax - Les Nuits
Heard the sample of Ishkur's Guide to Electronic Music. Easily in top five of my favorite tracks of all time.

9. Depeche Mode - Shake the Disease
Casualty of my Depeche Mode phase.

10. Cuba Computer - Haunting Me (Chus & Ceballos Mix)
One of the first house tracks that I liked (a suggestion from houseaddict.com). They liked it dark in 2003, but the synths made it accessible to a house novice.

Posted by AlphaStarred on Sep-27-2006 03:29:

Adam X - Pollutant Emissions
Ambre & Mark Spybey - Zro Cinquante-Neuf
Acid Masters - 808 Goes Acid
Tahnja - Analog 011 - B
Origin - Timidity - (unknown sample)
Nebula II - Clocked It
Somatic Responses - Nova 166
Mandalay - Pearl
Freddie Fresh -Logical Grooves A2
Ambre & Mark Spybey - J'Irai Cracher Sur Vos Ombres
R.I.C. - Playing Tricks

1. William Orbit - Colours From Nowhere

Happens to be a track I really like from his new album "Hello Waveforms" ... Very warm rubbery synth and a nice sublte guitar... I liked the new album a lot.

2. M.A.N.D.Y. & Sunset People - Sunsetpeople (Es Vedra Mix)

Nice deep minimal ish tribalish groover right here.. Very smooth drums and sounds. Nice samples and a very smooth feel overall. I need to start spinnin' this again!

3. Slam - This World

Not much to say about this one... Original mix is always the best.

4. The Streets - Weak Become Heroes

Fuckin' eh my shuffle is rockin' out right now! Ch00n! Original Pirate Material.

5. The KLF - Six Hours to Louisiana, Black Coffee Going Cold
Wouldn't ever listen to this alone... it needs to be enjoyed in album forum... KLF - Chillout

6. Ada - Maps

Off the "Blondie" album... Beautiful tune- very sexy music. I love Ada!

7. Nouvelle Vague - Just Can't Get Enough

I love Nouvelle Vaugue! Introduced to them by this cute chick, really dig their sounds.

8. Madoka - Embedded (Original Mix)

Sexy tune by a cool prog artist. He's been kinda quiet for the last little bit, but has had some great releases- I love the deep vibe of this one, the smoother better style of prog...

9. Imogen Heap - Sweet Religion

Off Imogen's Kickass album, "I megaphone". This tune is nice and fun, and I like this album much more than anything she did with Frou Frou or the new album.

10. Rene Amesz - A, B, or C

Fuckin INSANE melody on this one. Another tune I need to start spinning again, this shit is DOPE. Fucking tech house at its finest!
