Boris is Leaving Crobar...who should the nxt resident be?

more like Boris's contract is up and wasn't renewed...

He will be making his Pacha debut on TGE

Sucks that Pacha had to pick him up... he brings out the shadiest crowd by far out of all the DJs I've seen.

Posted by Scoops on Sep-29-2006 15:57:

mite sound biased and eventhough he does his thing in Jersey...

Richie Santana is more then worthy of holding down a residency at Crobar. He has enough people backing him and I honestly can't see anyone other then him right now being a new resident at Crobar

maybe Exacta....but i would still pick Santana over him any day

Santana is a hell of a lot better than Boris. That Boris crowd is god awful.

worse then JP??

Posted by Highmay on Sep-29-2006 16:09:

this thread is mentioning the bottom crust of new york based DJs...if any of these names get replaced by any of the other names mentioned it wouldnt really make much of a difference...

some only wonder how djs like boris and draper make residents at these clubs when some of our very own barely scratch the surface of the flier world.

i'd like to see jollins, zack, eddie lee, tek, nauts, 1love kids, frequency kids, all hold a residency at a decently promoted venue, definitely not a crobar or pacha though =)

Posted by Miss Bliss on Sep-29-2006 16:29:

Jesus Christ, why Pacha? That's actually a decent place ugh ugh

I saw Serge Devant open up for Erick Morillo on Sunday in Vegas, and I was pretty impressed... although he did drop some cheesy shit, like some INXS song (Your moves are so raw... hahaha). Still wouldnt mind seeing him or Santana get a residency... I'd probably go once in a while.

agreed...

have to put Serge up in there as well. Both guys have proved nothing more to prove really

have you ever seen Santana? mixings pretty bad, from the 3 times i saw him.... track selection is decent at best, and im assuming a lot of you have never been to a JP event, because its Boris' crowd, only worse (and JP is a Pacha resident)....

Exacta, unfortunately is a Pacha resident (as is Whitmore, one of Crobar's former openers)....

Serge Devant.... gosh no, i dont like him at all anymore.... maybe for an opening set for Ferry, but no more than that....

we are now seeing what happens when the clubs spend a year or two focusing SOLELY on their headlining talent and not promoting emerging talent.... theres a very very limited list of names that is possible to hold down a Crobar residency, and they only have THEMSELVES to blame for not cultivating some potential names earlier....

call me crazy but a monthly Robots party there would be something different, maybe something we need? either that or a trance monthly with locals (that might be harder to pull off than the Robots event, but theres a few untouched names here in the city, like Thomas Datt... um nvm, theres very few somewhat-known DJs in New york haha).... maybe Alex Pearce might hold down a co-residency (teaming with someone else), he may not have the huge draw but maybe he, along with one or two other DJs, are certainly up to that level musically, who knows....

Pacha's lineup (with the exception of the only recent addition of Made Event parties) is almost ALL residents (Rooster & Peralta, Calegari, JP, now Boris), while Crobar's is all international residents, for the most part.... its a shame there's no middle ground....

I only saw Santana once and I expected cheese but I was honestly pleasantly surprised. Maybe I caught him on a good day. And yes I've seen the JP crowd and agree with you there too. I replied in terms of what kind of big draw local resident they should get, not who I would like to see. Lets face it, these guys are money makers. So, figuring that in, I'd rather see Serge or Santana over Boris. If drawing a big, consistant crowd was not as important then yeah, I'd rather have those other DJs.

you're crazy ....come to Deko when you turn 23 and watch the guy. I've seen the guy from when he started at Shampoo wit Tronco to his days at Bunka and now to his residency at Deko. He is the most consistant DJ in Jersey and doesn't rely on playing cheeze unlike some of these other DJs

If it isn't going to be Santana or Vibe then it will be somebody else, because, with Pacha on the map, Crobar has to book solid DJs on the list.
Besides, sometime early in the summer I heard that Santana was signed up for contract at Pacha.

Unfortunately if they cant draw, they wont hire them... Pacha is too big of a club for someone like Robots or any local trance DJ to fill up... it always comes back to the $$$.

I seriously think we need Preach to play here....at least once so people can feel him out....I need some of his dirty ass beats....techytranceyelectro goodness

Never gonna happen but its my two cents

Posted by ReenTeenTeen on Sep-29-2006 17:34:

You know what, I hate the crowd of 18 year old tunnel-n-bridges vibe at JP & Boris parties O.D.ing on drugs & screaming their lungs out all night, so if they all end up at Pacha the better. Crobar is gonna be left alone to 21+ sure thing and its for the better, because if memory serves me right, for the reason of JP kind of parties SF closed up. That crowd just can't party safisticated. I'll stay with Crobar either way. Boris can go have fun at Pacha if the money trail leads him there.

Santana can throw down killer House sets....probally better than any New York based house DJs of today.
