Aphex Twin

Listening to "Window Licker" right now. What do you guys think of his stuff?

Posted by stevsto on Oct-09-2006 15:38:

i enjoy that song better when i watch the video for it (the extended 15min version).

check out his richard d james albums, selected ambient works vol 1, 2.

aphex twin is an advanced species lifeform from another planet who came to earth by possesing the body of richard d james. aphex has to dumb his music down to mere mortal's comprehension, his true form would be too advanced for us to appreciate, we're not evolved enough to handle it, the world would change too rapidly causing chaos.

Yes, he's definitely one of my favorite artists and if I'm in the right mood, I'll call him my favorite. His "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" CDs are so enjoyable. Actually someday, I want to own everything he ever created and just have a Richard James marathon. He's just produced so many fantastic tracks...Digeridoo is classic. Yummy stuff.

i think i've narrowed down Fingerbib as my all time favorite track...love how beautiful that breakdown in the middle is and it really brings me back..

If I had to pic a favorite at this moment, it would probably be Xtal which I think was the first track I ever listened to by Richard James. It's so light and teasing, almost inviting. Fingerbib is more fun and playful, I think. It reminds me of running through the fields at home on a sunny day, full of dreams and whimsy.

I think his music is very becuase of the way he uses differant sounds, but I am not a big fan of many of his songs. They just aren't my style...However I can appreciate the style he has for what it is.

'Analogue Bubblebath 1' makes me rock hard, and my balls tingle.

I love the track, but find the video really disturbing! It's comical, but seriously twisted too. I'm not sure the version on Chris Cunningham's Directors Label DVD is the extended version, but I can't watch it long. The masks freak me out though I guess that's the point.

Immense producer,

love his more brutal stuff like the masterpieces that are his remixes of mescaline united - we have arrived. and come to mummy and the others. but really my fav work from him must be phloam & heliosphan

Posted by oziel on Oct-09-2006 18:52:

he makes me scared

Posted by websley on Oct-09-2006 18:56:

This is some good news:

The infamous London Orchestra Aphex/Squarepusher-orchestrated tracks are finally brought out on CD, toghether with masters like John Cage and Karlheinz Stockhausen.

He has many top tunes. Genius as a producer. His videos are pretty weird

Posted by GrimReaper on Oct-09-2006 20:42:

What's been said, a brilliant producer. Has done loads and loads of amazing stuff over the years and then some not so amazing.. i like most of his stuff but some of his freakier oddities are just simply too much for me.

Heliosphan and his remix of The Gentle People - Journey are probably my favs.

Posted by sljiva on Oct-09-2006 20:50:

genius producer and fucked up live performer.
if i had to decide who is the THE BEST edm producer of all times, i would probably choose him.
selected ambient works, xylem tube ep, come to daddy, windowlicker, richard d. james album, analord series...
brilliant, just brilliant

It is indeed one of his best tunes..

Posted by websley on Oct-09-2006 23:11:

And sadly,

he left the music-making business for this...

Posted by DJ Mission on Oct-10-2006 20:01:

He's money as a producer... one of the first electronic acts I listened to much. '4' off richard d james is beautiful, same with 'xtal'. Also, try running that last weird chord of windowlicker through a spectrum analyzer and watch what shows up.

Yeah, I kind of have to agree with that. He makes awesome stuff though.

Apparently, he collects all different kinds of radios and walkie-talkies etc. as he likes to sample different kinds of static from them to use in his music

Whatever he's doing, he's doing it right though IMO

Posted by Prototrance on Oct-12-2006 15:44:

Richard D James is a fucking mentalist, but an awesome producer.

Personal favorites are:-

'Xtal'
'Tha'
'Digeridoo'
'Flaphead'

It troubles me that "Window Sill" on S.A.W.II, still has a f*cked-up beginning. It even loses its sound in the left audio channel. I've checked if other versions have the same problem, by downloading different scans on p2p-networks. And indeed, they do
