found this on the daily news website:

Plane crashes on NYC's Upper East Side

NEW YORK (AP) -- A small plane crashed into a high-rise on the Upper East Side, raining down debris on Manhattan and unleashing what witnesses reported was a gigantic fireball, police said.

The aircraft struck the 20th floor of a building on East 72nd Street, said Fire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows.

"There's huge pieces of debris falling," said one witness who refused to give her full name. "There's so much falling now, I've got to get away."

Whether anyone was injured was not known, and it was unclear if the crash was an act of terrorism.

The address of the building is 524 E. 72nd Street - a 50-story condominium tower built in 1986 and located nearby Sotheby's Auction House. It has 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million.

I'm on 63rd and 2nd and we can see the smoke from one of the corner offices. Lots of sirens blaring. One of my co-workers actually left a little while ago before they released the exact address b/c he thought it was his sister's apt building. Luckily, she's not home now. Hopefully, they're ok

CNN's dumb. They're saying, "It is near Rockefeller Center." They're off by about 25 blocks!

NEW YORK (CNN) -- An aircraft has crashed into the middle of a brick highrise residential building on Manhattan's Upper East Side at 72nd Street and York Avenue, police officials said.

The building is located near Rockefeller Center and is very close to the Hudson River. A North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) spokesperson told CNN that it had not been tracking the plane.

There was no word on casualties as firefighters battled the flames that shot up from several windows on the 10th story. The Federal Aviation Administration has said a "general aviation" aircraft had hit the building.

Video from the scene shows at least three apartments in the high rise fully engulfed in flames.

CNN needs to get their facts right

however it is on the west side, east side can be completely foreign to most manhattanites lol

Posted by barosoap on Oct-11-2006 19:33:

Well, a main issue with incorrectly reporting where the crash is i.e. the midtown business area as opposed to the residential East River is scaring people. I heard that markets were immediately affected b/c of the fear it might be terrorists...

If they're from the West Side, they should know what's there and what isn't. If they know that York isn't in the neighborhood, they should know it's not close to Rockefeller Center.

I hate watching breaking news, because they must get absolute morons to write it up, as it's usually so far off the mark it's laughable. I've even heard this linked with terrorism already

Posted by trunks1022 on Oct-11-2006 19:35:

it is kinda dark out there....
