Whats up with Southern Californians?

Ok Ill try not to take too much space with this rant, but what is up with the scene down here? Why is it filled with such arrogant pricks? Why are there so many presumptuous morons who have an amateurish high-school mentality? Yes I know we get top Djs right and left, but I conjecture they come here more for the money than the vibe.

Why do I say this? Well Ive been lucky enough to travel around the globe and go to clubs across our great planet. Almost every place I visited had friendly and amicable people who basically had that original spirit of EDM.

Somehow here in So Cal that spirit seems to be lost. Well it doesnt take much to realize where we are situated. This is Hollywood after all; it lures in that superficial group of morons who still believe in that our clique-is-superior-to-your-clique mentality. Like I said before, wasnt that in highschool? Seriously, whenever I go out for a break at our lame clubs I see people huddled in their retarded little groups. Oh and when a stranger with friendly intentions approaches eyes roll HAHAI couldnt help but notice that when I went out 2 weeks ago.

The sad fact is most of these psuedo-"high-society" idiots are nothing more than a sham; most have menial day-time jobs and rely on their nocturnal club-"cliques" for affirmation LOL!

hahaha... I remember reading a very similar post if not that same one months ago. Ok maybe not months ago but like a yr or so ago.

Please continue, I just wanted to post my first thought as I read your post. I'll let the others fill in the rest.

Have a good night!

As an addendum

I just fondly recall the many awesome parties and clubs I went to worldwide. I usually went with a friend and the great thing wasthere was this really friendly communal atmosphere. I mean the sound system could suck but it didnt matter. My friend and I felt we were surrounded in a true EDM environment and we were! We talked to so many friendly peoplethere were no noticeable idiotic cliques and everyone was together in their pursuit of fun.

What you cant post your thoughts right now?

Posted by TSG on Oct-13-2006 06:08:

Nah, I'm sleepy right now and want to call it a night. I do want to hear more about your world travels though.

Posted by Navi on Oct-13-2006 06:32:

maybe its the abundance of drugs...
or maybe its just that ppl are assholes and self-centered!
Nowhere is that more evident than in L.A.
why is that?

Posted by bas on Oct-13-2006 07:40:

It's just you dude. You're a twat.

Naw, I have to agree the scene in LA is wacked, big time.... San Diego has something kinda cool, but LA is full of a bunch of fake people who have yet to mature and realize what life is about, so they are too busy trying to out do each other.

Instead of actually coming together and bringing a positive energy to each other. I believe the societal energy in LA takes over the minds of the people in this area and they are left being this way with no way out on there own.

Either way, LA is a whole lot of fun and there are thign that a person can experience here that just aren't avaliable anywhere else and after being here, you get to enjoy the differences elsewhere.

my thoughts

I'm not a big fan of SoCal either.

I agree. SoCal is getting more wack every day, I even said it on another thread how everyone here seems to be getting spoiled and materialistic. I guess I should've used the word superficial. I remember when I used to be able to go out alone and I didn't care because I would always meet new people. That's nearly impossible now. If you do meet new people today, they are way different than before.

Our scene is driven by $$$ and it takes that extra spark away from it. Look at the ridiculus prices we're paying to see DJs now. $85 for TIESTO is ridiculus, specially when in a city so close as Tijuana he's only $20 for a way better show!

Not only that, but look at PVD. He's at Monster Massive for $50, but you get Armin, Markus, and a ton of other quality talent. Then a month later, PVD is $50 for just him and Jerry Bonham.

I'm sorry but these high prices drive away people who are in it for the love of music, and those unsuperficial.

Jesse your a kool cat so im not gonna get 2 in2 this with you over the boards....if you would like to debate in person, im game.....

Where did u get your start as an EDM artist...? what clubs gave you your 1st opportunity to do what you love publicly...? which record stores did you purchase your first vinyls/euqipment from...?which crowd of people come out and see you @ SPundae every now and then....? what city is the club you spin in located....? i can ask you so many more questions but i think u get my point....it's one thing to be criticial of where you live and the habitat that surrounds you and its another thing 2 straightout talk shit.....i mean yah its not the most beautifull city in the world, and yah its not the cleanest and certaintly not the least polluted, and yah maybe its not filled with people that pick flowers on the sidewalk everyday and and ask you what time church is on sunday, but gosh darn-it its our city......LosAngeles is our hometown, its where we live its where we party, its where we eat out, its where we hookup, its where we take shits, its where we everythinggggggggggggggggggggggg........im born and raised in Hollywood, you dont get more "LA" than me. Trust me i know exactly what you guys are talking about.......But lets stop talkin shit and realize the fact that the talent that comes thru LA is orgasmic sumtimes....[B]I mean i honestly consider myself privileged to have a decision like "hmmmmmmmmmmm what do i wanna do 2nite, do i wanna go2 Picotto and Fleming @ SPundae, do i wanna see Nic Fanciulli @ Avalon, or maybe ill just go2 G&D @ Vanguard..." (its no contest i personally dont care about anything besides Picotto , but you guys get my pointtttttt)....THATS 5 WORLD CLASS DJs IN ONE NIGHT, not to mention the disgusting local talent that opens up for these worldclass acts....ie FEI FEI, Bob, Jesse, Tigo, Armen and so on......and its not the 1st time thats happened......

i mean cmon guys can we give it a rest..........i dont think any other locations talks so much shit about themselves as much as we do.....its embarrasing............for pete sakes

That's why im going to NorCal this weekend

Posted by gehzumteufel on Oct-13-2006 20:43:

its funny to see these threads cause since i moved to southern california 2 years ago it has been one hell of a reality check. i have never been around so many superficial materialistic people in my life. its not something i have totally adjusted to it but it doesnt bother me as much as others. its a nice change though compared to the lifestyle of northern cali. i love having so much entertainment in such a short reach. even though i dont like fake people i still love so cal!
