Review: Adam Beyer @ 99 sudbury
just finished walking home to spadina and college, had an amazing time tonight!
Got there at like 12:30 and watched jamie kidd for an hour and a half. I was really impressed by him... really got the crowd into it!
Adam Beyer was just amazing! He was pounding hard techno for like the first 3 hours and then he winded it down with about an hour of pretty pounding minimal. Was disappointed that he only stayed on till 6, woulda been nice to seen another 2 hours!
anyways the club was really chill, kinda ghetto but it was really chill.... no line, didnt get id'd at the door, people were really friendly and it was just a great night overall!
Looking forward to seeing pictures and reading other peoples reviews from tonight
I will just say
for now
<3
Teufel man is right the spot was a sick venue suited techno well. Great night, absolutely amazing.
Damn.
Should have come.
Was debating how much minimal Beyer was going to play. Thought he'd play too much of it but oh well.
Hopefully there's a next time

got there when doors opened with a few peeps.. stayed til 12:30 then had to run to another 'all night party' to pick up camera battery/charger. made it back at 3am, to beyer shpinnin' his (of late) minimal.
was it just me, or was there a lot of 'minimal trainwrecks'? ah well, the crowd was into it definately. was hoping for some harder/older beyer -esque stuff. i guess i missed the hard-pounding techno mentioned earlier.
to quote my bud Patrick about last night: "Beyer sounded how Hawtin sounded when he was Good"
still don't know how to take that statement.
overall, 7/10 night from moi. better 10000-fold than the Nightmare party up the street though.
ps: i LOVE the security/staff at 99 Sudbury. such nice/no-hassle peeps.
hah thanks steve

1st time at 99 Sudbury (can u believe it?)- totally felt like a 1993 underground warehouse party. Came in w/Vince & Caryn (rubyriva) to the sounds of Jamie Kidd. Good showing of TA's there, & many familiar people- not too many costumed people though. The energy and volume increased when the much anticipated Beyer came on. There were some SWEET jems played during that set! Having had no dinner that night and was surviving on only 3-4 drinks, my legs could take no more after a while. The music was really starting to get extra good around 4, but thats also when the super sweaty sketchbag guys trying to pick up were making the rounds and annoying the same girls over and over. Lasted til 4:30/45, and headed home for some much needed breakfast.
Thanks to everyone involved in bringing Adam Beyer back to Toronto.
Graham- where were you??

Jealous!
That is all but.....VIVA LA DEMF 2007!
whats the place like on the inside? im going tonight, any more info?
Big room, decent sound system, extremely dirty and slippery floors...pretty much a warehouse. They got one really awesome green lazer that reflects off of their little disco ball. Oh, and it's REALLY hot in there. Absolutely no sign of air conditioning...so I suggest staying near the back until the place clears out a bit.

Absolutely exceeded my expectations, it was the perfect night ...good sound, good friends, excellent DJ!!!
*THIS* was a proper techno jam. <3
Glad you guys had fun, I got a txt from Bill saying it was wicked. I couldn't make it out, was too dead from the night before. See whoever is hitting up the Docks tonight.
Awesome night!! From about 3:30-5 Adam Beyer was destroying me. The DJ who opened for him (Jamie Kidd) was also very good. Was impressed.
99 Sudbury - my first time there and I thought it was really, really ghetto.
But I liked it. It was sooooooo different from the usual clubbing venues. Would definitely go back.
The vibe was amazing. Smiles everywhere. Everyone was there to party it up.
The party reminded me of some old school gigs.
Nice to meet clublifexxx for the millionth time.

| Originally posted by Skipper It was still rolling, percussive techno, as was the set in 03. Perhaps the bpm were a little lower...but at one point I remember looking at my friends and we were all shaking our heads in wonder about how unexpectedly hard it was. He played some great older tunes...in particular he played "Rippin and Dippin Pt 2" which is one of my favorite Beyer tracks of all time (done as Mr Sliff) Lots of material from some of the recent sets I've been listening to, but tons of shit from god knows where. I want to go back to last night so bad! I dont think another party will happen like this one for quite some time. |
i <3 sudbury..........so underground dirty
best light show in toronto ????? oh YEAH!!!!
i only heard on wreck from adam.....and it wasnt that big a deal.
technically he is simply superb!!!!
HE is ALWAYS doing something on that mixer......ALWAYS.
hes not flashy......he doesnt have to be.......and i like that.
some great tracks that need to be ided......
i know the common ones
Beyer/Lenk - Heartbreak(er)
Beyer/Dalbach - Redemption
