yeah its veterans day here, haven't heard one word of it aside from public radio and one kid in class asking if we got any time off
kinda fucked up, considering we're in the middle of a war. and veterans day goes by without a second glance
Wow, I had no idea it was today...
Armistice Day in Britain is a huge deal. People have been buying poppies for over a month.
Two minutes silence at 11. Always is. To remember all the people who have died in the two world wars and since.
After the anual " picking my self with my poppy 10 times " I never for get this day.
yeah i got a poppy the other day and donated a bit of cash to that tin can for the veterans. makes me sick how people are trying to steal those cans tho, pathetic!
It's a big deal in Canada.
EVERYONE wears poppies, schools have assemblies, there is the 2 minute silence at 11 EVERYWHERE (schools, workplaces etc.)
This morning I was woken up by a canon going off, and I looked out my window, there was a huge congregation of people at the commemorating statue across the street from me (even though it was pouring out).
Meh, I have never personally taken it as a big deal, but everyone around me does, so I show my respect.
Wow, America is the asshole on this holiday huh?
yeah we do absolutely jack shit
we um.....we watch football?
wtf are poppies ?

I will surely remember it from now on!
Today I freaked out because I was going to run out of my medication over the weekend.
I had placed the order with the local pharmacy and went there only to notice they were closed despite the fact it was marked open till 2 PM!
Well it hit me when I noticed it was 11th of november.
I looked in the newspaper and they wrote the emergency pharmacies open for the weekend. I called 5 of them before I could find one that had the medication I needed in stock and that itself was a freaking miracle considering the stuff is outrageous ( 600 euros ) and the fact I also had a second prescription for it!!! Otherwise I would have been screweeeddd....
Had to drive 50 kilometers to go there! But I ended up visiting the city and went to some tourism fair so in the end my parents were happy we went to that other city
/panic attack over!

i took rowan to the ceremony today and there was a pretty good turnout, also a military helicopter flew over and dumped a bunch of poppy petals over the crowd just before the 2 minute silence. i always get misty eyed over rememberance day, which is kind of lame, but alot of my family served overseas in the wars.
I dont know why but i thought veterans day was yesterday.

At work the whole mall stopped and paid respect while the Last Post was played through the PA system. It was surreal watching a mall full with thousands of people just stop for that brief moment. Lest we forget
Fair comment. Therefore I take back my harsh comment regarding the posters idiocy.
But I wouldn't associate the word celebration with remembering mass life loss. But I see your point.
And the amount of people on here that don't appear to know what 'rememberance' day is, frankly, staggering!
