**** **** computer help now!!!
WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK.
i am going to play an mp3 in winamp, i open the add file, and go to my music files. ALL MY FOLDERS ARE RENAMED. to numbers. random fucking strings of numbers. all the files as well. extensionless fucking strings of numbers. ALL OF MY FILES. everything in /Program Files/ and in My Documents is still intact, and everything on my other drive. WHAT THE FUCKING FUCK.
does ANYONE know what this can be? PLEASE HELP ME.
Don't touch anything on the harddrive. Don't mess with any of the files at all. Now go get a system restore program.
System Restore?

just look at this shit. one second i'm playing a track, the next:
umm... I found this info
1. Turn off your computer immediately!!!
2. Place the hard drive in another computer
3. Run a program like Ontrack to recover your files
4. Prey that most songs are still there(if they haven't been overrriden, then they should be there)
by going into my incoming folder and having winamp check for all file types, i can still play some files. they even have their id3 tags.
this looks like it was a mass rename. where did you read that jonSun?
system restore won't do shit. YOu got file system corruption. the good news that there's a good chance your stuff is still there, it needs to be pried out.
you need to obtain a copy of systinternals ERD (emergency recovery disk). You burn it on CD, insert a working drive (with plenty of space to move your data to). You boot from ERD and run a utility to recover your data. The way it works is it actually reads the data from drive instead of relying on your MBR/FAT (table of contents of stuff on your drive). Think of it this way: the table of contents page has been ripped out but the rest of the book should still be there.
Hope this helps. good luck.
why dosent anyone use the tech section..its new..use it.

when it happened, i had slsk opened, was sending files to a friend. i cued up 3 folders (ie. the names were there). hit send, and all the transfers failed. i retried, failed again. i checked, and everything is now numbers.

| Originally posted by venomX That works, you could also try doing a checkdisk on your harddrive. Goto Start Click Run Type cmd, then hit ok. Type chkdsk /R Type Y for yes. Reboot. If your machine is running, your drive is prolly not damaged, windows might have just screwed up. |

Plain and simple - run your anti-virus program.
I hope you have a backup, of your My Documents folder.
Good luck. Next time, don't tell me to fuck myself.

| Originally posted by EXTREMUM So, you think virii in your computer only attack once? They stay on the drive, and don't remain dormant - this isn't a human body. After two years of technical school, four years of college background, and ten years of technical job experience, I sure do know what I'm talking about. It doesn't matter, where he keeps his music. Evidently, a virus screwed up his My Documents folder, and needs to be dealt with, before the entire drive gets screwed. Worst case scenario, if his drive is backed up properly, he can safely do a clean OS reinstall. |
