what pisses me off even more is when a hot girl comes up to you ... and you're like expecting a nice greeting ... and so on ...

instead of all the great ideas... she asks you: Hey, could you play something by Shakira, or I don't know pussycat dolls? You know, no-one can dance to this...trance or whatever you call it."

I always just point down on the packed floor...and "hmmm...no-one?"

see my point?

yea i hate that shit...hot girl comes up and is like "do you have anything that's not techno?" and im just like

Posted by stan229 on Nov-21-2006 21:52:

thats just what bothers me.. why does everyone fuckin call it techno, hell in the stores all the music is under teh techno section
and they all think that cascada - everytime we touch and fucking dht - listen to your heart should be played all the time
makes me ready to puke

Posted by DOOMBOT on Nov-21-2006 21:56:

Best one yet for me...

Clubber - "Hey man, you got any Third Eye Blind?"
Me - "Does it sound like I have any Third Eye Blind?"
Clubber - "............ heh, yeah I guess not."

Posted by Wisnia on Nov-21-2006 23:53:

Artist Marco G from Quebec city tattooed this on his arm. I guess he was tired of people requesting stupid shit as well

Posted by Timski on Nov-22-2006 00:29:

^^ thats awesome.

It really does give me the shits how everyone calls it techno, like its such a broad term, I mean when I listen to other styles I don't think everything where someone is rhyming is a "rap" song. Or anything that has an electric guitar is "metal".

People are so fucking ignorant.

NO!

paul van dyk (paul fan dik) is correct :P

Posted by david.michael on Nov-22-2006 20:37:

I played at a Halloween house party, and a girl came up to me...

"Hey man... you got any like...... Shoulder Lean?"

Which.... I did. I was gonna play a hip-hop set following my house/trance set. But still.... calm the f down and let me play MY music first.

Actually, yes!

I know you're from Germany, and maybe the way you pronounce DIK like we pronounce DOOK, however I have attached a link to a sample to an introduction of Paul van Dyk, spoken by a German before a set played at a Loveparade pre-party..... in Germany!

So listen to this...... this guy definately says "dook"

This is too funny! I just had that happen to me last weekend. I was playing at a party and some hot chick walked up to the booth and said, " Could you play something that everyone could dance to". I thought she was going to shoot me a compliment or something. All I could think was, Look at the dance floor, everyone seems to be enjoying the music besides you. Yeah, it's too funny some of the stuff people ask you to play, or what not to play.

One time Clovis and I were playing at this really shit bar/club deal in Santa Barabara. We were playing for a little over an hour, closing out the night, when this girl comes up to the booth and says "do you have any Hip hop?". Now keep in mind she had been ther for quite a while, I saw her and her group of friends relatively early in the night so she saw the other 2 djs before us. Anyway I looked at her and just said, "What in the past 2 hours has led you to believe that anyone would be playing hip hop tonight? Was it the techno dj before us or the house dj before him?". Fucking moron

Anyway, I liked that Paul Van Dook guy. He was rad, at least he had some idea of what kind of music we played

Sometimes you've got to whore yourself a little bit and put on a requested song if it would suit, or only slightly deviate away from the flow of a set. Playing a set exactly planned out on paper or in your head before you get started isn't much fun. The whole point of the Djing business is to get punters dancing while injecting some of your style into the music.

I think I just wet myself I laughed so much at that. PLEASE tell me you meant 'cack' (instead of an ock) - it made it so much funnier.

Best I ever had was (while playing Sasha's Xpander - and this has to be read with a Glaswegian accent):

"Gonny play some S-Club 7 - this shyte's tae heavy fer me..."

(The 7 is pronounced 'suvun')

While the dance floor was packed with people all loving (I hope) the music I'd been playing - in a club known for playing progressive/trance stuff.

I mean, why do people even go to clubs like this without knowing what kind of music they play?

Rant over...

i mean. i am standing in front of 3 CDJs and a mixer. it looks high-tech. i've been playing bleepy electro and acid for over an hour. DOES IT FUCKING LOOK LIKE I HAVE ANY BACHATA?

really dont get this one myself either. been studying german for a few months now... and i have NO IDEA why anyone would say 'Dyk' is pronounced 'Dook' in german. bleh. and yes, i've heard the commentator saying it like that.

then again, Markus Schulz mispronounces Armin van Buuren's name all the time. hell, the dude who does the VOCAL SAMPLE for ASOT mispronounces Armin's name. so i would not be surprised.

Posted by montana on Nov-24-2006 13:01:

straight from the horses mouth. this is how pvd pronounces his name:

Pal fan duk.

Posted by Inertia on Nov-24-2006 18:22:

hrm. inconsequent however, when dealing with german pronunciation, as his name isn't really Paul van Dyk, therefore, he can basically pronounce it however the hell he wants.

Posted by <tuss> on Nov-25-2006 05:51:

what pisses me off more than people only calling it techno, is when people call it 'rave', like, 'let's leave they're playing rave tonight.' like you go to a hip hop club and say 'they're playing breakdance here tonight' fuckin idiots i say. 'oh you dj?, what do you play?' 'house' '...oh..rave..' no fucknuts, not rave, house music. i would be happy with a simple techno to be honest.

Posted by kingklubz on Nov-27-2006 04:29:

I haven't been djing very long, just about a month and a half, and at a house party this weekend a couple of idiots say to me, "We arent high, play something other than techno!" Wow I just wanna shoot people like this sometimes. Would you go to a rock concert and tell the band to play a different style of music? Then don't tell the DJ what kind of music to play!
