Ill be dead honest... the quality of the pictures from the SD630 are shitty.

The Sony digital cameras are better than Canon's imo.

I work at a camera store.

I would guess it costs more due to having a better lens. Although the MP may be lower, the pics will still look as good/better.

SLR's are professional cameras. They require expesive lenses, and filters if necessary.

MP's dont determine the quality of the pictures, MP is just how big (resolution of) an image will be.

I dont know about the Nikon digital cameras, I have the coolpix 7900 and its not so great.

What camera would you recommend for an amateur?

Sony digicams FTW.

As far as SLR's though, Canon & Nikon are the best out there except with their entry level stuff. The Sony DSLRA100 beats the entry level Canon and Nikon stuff.

The best SLR on the market is probably the Canon 1Ds Mark II, with lenses and stuff, it could cost 7-8 grand.

I'm kind of looking for something between 250-550.... so

As far as normal digital cameras go, what would you recommend? Is the canon powershot G7 good?

Posted by D-res on Dec-01-2006 03:09:

www.dpreview.com

Posted by Vlad on Dec-01-2006 03:11:

G7 is very good, but bulky.

I would suggest one of...

DSCN2
DSCW100
DSCT10

I have the powershot A520, for the price no other camera came close to its features and customization for the price.

exactly that, superb site, very informative. don't just take vlad's opinion, read what experts have to say in the review sections.
