Arsenal winning at Liverpool 4-1 half-time

Jerzy Dudek is having the game of his life.

Posted by zoric on Jan-09-2007 20:57:

Liverpool suck so I can't blame them.

Where's Scaza?

Posted by zoric on Jan-09-2007 21:18:

Jerzy Dudek did save a penalty, but allowed another goal, Baptista with the hattrick.

Posted by noikeee on Jan-09-2007 21:37:

This game is completely nuts.

Posted by PEZ68 on Jan-09-2007 21:40:

too bad it's not broadcasted here :'(

Posted by noikeee on Jan-09-2007 21:46:

final result: 3-6.

Posted by zoric on Jan-09-2007 21:50:

Liverpool allows 6 goals, Rafa Benitez looks like he wants to start crying while the fans are totally shocked. Lets not forget about Luis Garcia and his injury which could be really bad.

Julio Baptista scores 4 goals, Alliadere is probably the man of the match and Fabregas was amazing even though Liverpool sucked. The weird thing is, Baptista could've scored more goals than "just" the 4 he scored, This game was definitely nuts

It's fun to watch though, it almost ended 4:6

There's the nine goals scored tonight, also, this is the way a team loses when Arsenal starts being effective for once

Posted by raveed on Jan-09-2007 22:33:

this arsenal team is going to be one heck of a bunch in 2 years time .. no one even comes close to wenger when it comes to nurturing young talent

Posted by The_G0dfather on Jan-09-2007 22:35:

Did Rosicky play ? Man did he score two brilliant goals this weekend, especially that first one, reminded of that Eto'o goal from last years L (not that beautiful thogh).

Arsenal is really loaded with class, Van Persie, Rosicky, Henry, Fabregas (why o why did bara sell him )... This squad is certainly as good or even better than their champions teams from 3 to 4 years ago, so its weird to see them struggling that much. Maybe not completely balanced yet, dont know.

I agree. Arsenal are fantastic when at the top of their game. their problem is inconsistency, but some extra maturity of their youth players (so many talents!) should help on that. Just look at what 3 seasons of Premiership did to Cristiano Ronaldo.

im getting sick of raping Liverpool each time we play

Posted by chesco on Jan-09-2007 23:25:

Felt sorry for steven gerrard, surrounded by infadels wearing liverpool shirts.

His goal was pick of the bunch.

Fabregas is unreal, what a player he is and will be for years to come.

Benitez apologises for hammering

Manager Rafael Benitez apologised to Liverpool supporters after watching the Reds humbled in the Carling Cup 6-3 at Anfield by a young Arsenal team.

A stunned Benitez said: "It is a bad night for us and all we can say is sorry to the supporters.

"Now is not the time to point the finger or look to blame people. We win together and we lose together.

"We must forget about it as soon as possible and look ahead to Watford on Saturday and the Champions League."

The result comes just three days after Arsenal dumped Liverpool out of the FA Cup at Anfield and Benitez's side were booed off by a furious crowd.

The Spaniard added: "The problem was conceding four goals in the first half.

"When you are faced with a scoreline like that it is very difficult to manage the game.

"We needed an early goal in the second half but couldn't find it. When we did score Arsenal had the quality to keep the ball and make it difficult for us."

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger lavished praise on his young charges and said he thinks the incredible display shows that the Gunners have a bright future.

"These lads have worked very hard to integrate and to do what we want them to do," said Wenger.

"They have shown great mental strength and I am highly tempted to play many of them in the semi-final against Spurs.

"They have earned the right maybe to play in the next round. It is a very satisfying night.

"I feel there is a continuity inside the club, and we feel we have worked very, very hard.

"The future of the club is very promising. We aim to keep these players together and keep the spirit right. Then we have a great chance for the future."

I think Arsenal is the only team in the world who plays this fantastic whenever they step up, together with Barcelona when they're really at the top of their game.

The difference though is that Arsenal always entertains the crowd and their fans, no matter if they don't score any goals. The finishing has cost them a higher position in the league, they've been playing great against the top 3 teams so far this season:

They won over Manchester United at Old Trafford with 0:1, They managed to hammer teams like Tottenham (Even though they're not on the top of their game yet) and Liverpool with 3:0 on Emirates Stadium.

Their problem has been the finishing all season long, and when they finally start scoring again, they're unstoppable.

Last 3 games:

Arsenal vs. Charlton 4:0
Liverpool vs. Arsenal 1:3
Liverpool vs. Arsenal 3:6

The last game without stars like Thierry Henry and van Persie who usually score in every game they play. So, this is a major achievement!

the problem is there defence there an attacking team and forget about defending sometimes just look at the score they hammered liverpool but still let 3 goals in.

Looked like an entertaining game. Atleast now us Milan fans can hang shit on Liverpool now. Liverpool were just outclassed and looked very shabby despite the 3 goals scored, espec that last goal the defence didnt even man Baptista...I think the defence is where Liverpool have their weakness.

Expert analysis that...

What that CARLING CUP match showed is that Arsenal have a superior second choice side to Liverpool's. With the exception of Aurelio, the backline we played is not our first choice. On Saturday when we played our first choice eleven (apart from Dudek) we completely dominated possesion but didn't have the quality up front to convert that to any more than one goal.

Everyone seems to have it out for Liverpool on these boards. Don't understand it really. All the Barca fans to be smug at the minute. You are obviously favourites, but there are some factors that lead me to believe we can win...

yeah there is hope.

Couldnt agree more with Zoran and Raveed, this is the most talented side in Europe when it comes to youngsters. Arsenal should consider themselves very lucky even if they aint winning anything atm. There's a reason why Wenger bought Rosicky, he completely fits into the planning of this team.

He didn't play actually :

* Manuel Almunia
* Kolo Toure
* Justin Hoyte
* Johan Djourou
* Armand Traore
* Matthew Connolly (87)
* Denilson
* Alexandre Song
* Theo Walcott
* Abou Diaby (73)
* Julio Baptista
* Jeremie Aliadiere

As you can see, it looked like more a 'B' team with plenty of youngsters on the field.

On a side note, I can't wait to see Lehmann retiring, he's one of the weakest point in the team and Almunia looks a lot better.
