We'd be out for this, but I absolutely cannot stand BBB.

Andy, do you know if the ad for opening DJ's is yet another "Pay for play at The Rave" situation? That's basically how it's looked the last two times they had pay for play.

I used to not like BBB until we saw him at purenation. I could swear the dude played hard house until he was droppin stuff like Trentemoller's remix of "Du What You Du" which certainly doesn't sound like hard house to me.

Also I wouldnt be suprised if it was a pay to play situation. If so the rave can blow themselves with such a stupid offer. I guess the only way to find out though is to hit them up and see.

ah, yeah, this is normal. Fuck the rave. They hardly ever have any decent EDM acts come through anymore, and the crowd that turns up is usually the circus freak raver type, not to mention the usual Drug dealer type that strolls through everytime Im there. New Years was horrible, although Green Velvet Owned. Only reason I went.

seems appropriate given the venue's name

just for the hell of it...

What were looking for in our regional talent is someone who can draw at least 27 people. Those who can will make $150+ for themselves. The way it works is you guarantee us 17 people by purchasing 17 tickets at $15 each. We will then give you an additional 26 tickets to sell to your fans for your payment.

if i knew 17 people that would go i might've thought about doing this. something about "buying" a slot just sounds like bullshit though.

I wouldn't do it. No way, no how. It's just their ploy to get more people buying drinks.

Crock of shit IMO.

lol - it's fun to take the piss to him. He spams more garbage than anyone I've ever seen.

And BTW, the post I just made will more than likely be my last for the day on there. It was fun while it lasted

trying... not... to be... asshole.....

..even though i missed you at vision on a side note, devast8 was the first dj i met when i moved to milwaukee. seems like a good guy. i remember he was using final scratch and i started a convo up about ableton. he says, "oh? you're a dj? you got a nickname man??"

"Naaahhh, to be honest i think that dj names are cliche, and honestly kind of ridiculous."
"ah, that's cool."
"what's your name??"
"DEVAST8!!"

I also met erick romero.. he threw down "tracking treasure down" omgidie!! solid mixing though.. meh.

Posted by RJT on Jan-12-2007 18:31:

I don't know - to me Devast8 is a pretty horrid DJ, and even worse about spamming himself. But meh, whatever, I really have no opinion one way or another on him - I just love to see how easy it is to get teh MN crew all riled up.

Romero, on the other hand, is utterly hit or miss. He's not a bad DJ, but he doesn't play much that's worth anything - Pretty much just a beatport top 10 DJ.

i hear you on that. not a big fan of the shit attitude. as for romero, i myself am still trying to get out of the "BP top ten" habit so i can't really hate on him for that.

To anyone that missed out, helluva show. Mixing was real solid and I've never seen a dude scratch that well before. Bomb shit.

EDIT: btw the dj that closed up while people were leaving was the worst ive ever heard. I havent mixed that bad since I first jumped on a pair of old turntables

Posted by Omega_Blue on Jan-21-2007 18:04:

man, it's been a fuckin fantastic weekend. chillin with ta's at mantra, then BBB the next day

first of all, right as he got on the decks the sound system fucked up. so we sat there in silence as the tech tried fixing it by light of a cellphone. hilarious. but his set was pretty agressive. josh was calling it "techno" on MN and i can see where he was coming from on that. lots of dark tech-house and the like. his tricks/effects sounded great. i FINALLY realized how to backspin ... transitions were spot on the whole time. scratching was amazing without being pretentious.

a couple things i didn't like: mixing EP - proper education into EP - proper education. you know how there's two main breakdowns in the original? he mixed out of the second breakdown into the first breakdown so people could, i dunno listen to the verse/chorus again? overdid it a little there. at least mix in a different remix or something. also while his effects sounded great, he went overboard on the delay. i swear every other song was doubled up or 3/4 delayed before the breakdowns or during transitions. meh.

and the closing dj was ABSOLUTELY SHIT. worst "dj" i've ever heard in my life. in fact, here, i'll post his tracklist:

Sander K - This is Miami (dripping in off-the-beat, overdone delay and flange)
*trainwreck of the worst kind, quickly slaps the fader over, grabs the mic and says "GIVE IT UP FOR BAD BOY BILL!!!! (i hope nobody heard that!!)"
Fedde le Grand - Put your hands up for detroit (which we heard three times, from three different djs, in three different stages)

andy i'm glad loren didn't die pics to come soon
