"The Iranian nation will celebrate stabilization and establishment of its nuclear rights during the Ten-Day Dawn, (sic)" Ahmadinejad was quoted as saying. The "ten-day dawn" in early February marks the date of the Islamic revolution in Iran in 1979. "When a nation decides to stand on its own feet to climb up the peaks, God helps it and that nation will embrace victory," Ahmadinejad said. The Iranian government's boasts of "great achievements" included an announcement on Saturday that Iranian scientists have "introduced an AIDS cure". "After seven long years of arduous work, Iranian scientists here on Saturday introduced a herbal medicine which cures Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS)," Fars reported. "The drug named 'IMOD' is completely effective and safe with no proven side effects," Iran's Minister of Health Kamran Bagheri Lankarani claimed during a ceremony. "The world should know today that the capable Iranian nation, relying on its own youths and scientists, has now conquered the peaks of knowledge and science," Ahmadinejad declared during his speech.

Even if it's a lie. That's a pretty humongous lie.

Even if they had the cure, do you think they would just give it out for free? I'm sure there would be a pretty large price tag on it.

yeah...that's why we've been spendig hundreds of millions (probably billions, but I don't ave the figures) of dollars to find one for years...unlike Iran.

Pharmaceutical Corporations have everything to gain from people suffering from AIDS and cancer and paying large amounts of money for their treatment.

um...they have far more to gain from finding a cure, as none of them can afford not to try to find one and risk having the billions of dollars of sales, government subsidies, and infinite good will all go to one of their competitors.

I think that you have "finding a cure" and "making public knowledge that a cure has been developed" all mixed up.

And who says that with the billions of dollars that they have been generating over the years haven't been used to suppress development of something that could be detrimental to their profits?

Corporations are businesses - trust nothing more than the fact that they wish to make money as fast and efficiently as possible.

This is exactly why they're ll trying to find one ASAP. It's a very common misconception that cures for cancer and AIDS are being surpressed or, at the very least, not pursued vigorously. The fact is, businesses are, and SHOULD be as greedy as possible. To quote Wall Street, "Greed is good." Only, unlike in that movie, it doesn't need to lead to illegal activities. There's more money in finding and distributing those cures than there is in not doing so.

I don't know about balls, but Ahmadinejad probably couldn't be less credible.

...balls full of AIDS.

Prices can be negotiated on several different levels. Arrangements can be made with governments, corporations, etc. - if this is true, the fact that we are reading about it in the media is proof enough that it is ready to become a public treatment, which says enough about Iran as a progressive nation in the international community - that has perks within itself. Whether it's true or not, I'm not even knowledgeable enough to say, but I can tell you what it sounds like. Becoming a "nuclear nation" does *not* necessarily mean that they want to have nuclear weapons pointed at the United States by the end of the week - just the prospect of internationally-approved nuclear power is enough of a development for countries like Iran. The power to defend is not necessarily the power to utterly annihilate or cause war.

It's not all about America. If anything, I would say that all of Africa has more to gain out of a cure to the AIDS virus than the United States does.
