Paul van Dyk @ Highline, NY 5.12.07

Just saw this on his website... I'm guessing this is the album release party. Anyone know anything about Highline?

INFO

Well, I've been to this restaurant/lounge many times, and its really not posh at all...free to get in, good cheap thai food, cool ambience, and there's a downstairs section that accomodates for about 75 people...kinda weird he's doing it at this venue....hmmmmm

it's called promoting your album to the people that are gonna make you the most money... makes perfect sense from the business point of view and paul Is a business man..

isnt his album going to be signed by that point? what could a small promo gig like that accomplish, other than being a party among friends and contacts of Paul's here in NYC?

We can all stalk him outside the place and bum rush him when hes done playing and drag him to some afterhours lounge.

if it is private, why post it on your site?

I wouldn't be suprised if a gig pops up along with that...

I am having a hard time following this. How is presenting his album to 75 people going to sell 'more more more'?

The people in suits can be newspaper/magazine people. So they may make articles in their magazines or newspapers explaining their experience of a set Paul might play as well as getting a copy of the album. Good reviews = more more more $$$ I guess.

just emailed him asking him about this gig, he says he's not aware of any event at a restaurant.....but to stay tuned to his site, as a new york show will be put up in a couple days for May.

because the best type of promotion still remains by word of mouth alone. 'industry' type parties have been done plenty of times before to 1> have fun of course and 2> present new material to get the buzz going whose end is to what? sell more records. sorry to say but in the end, cash is king and everyone has a motive to do what they're doing.

we were pathetic, maniacal paul-whores at the time and just after his virgin megastore 30 min. performance for the release of 'the politics of dancing' i guess (really don't recall at the moment) and we ended up waiting around for paul to come out (to rape him, of course) and then saw him getting into a limo presumable to get back into his limo so we got into indy's car and i made her slam on the gas and keep on his ass! eventually, we lost them good times.
