Help with Booze question

My friend loves to drink gin. In fact, he ONLY drinks gin. I wanted to get him a bottle of gin that he says "is hard to get a hold of". Its called Magellan Gin (french gin). Ive hit a few LCBOs with no luck. Some online vendors sell it but i was thinking that all booze must be sold through the liquor board. Before i investigate further i was wondering if anyone has bought any other foreign liquor like authentic Absinthe.

There is a bar called Castro's on Queen St. in the Beaches (a few blocks East of Woodbine) that serves absinthe.

For both of you, go to the Summerhill LCBO and ask them to order whatever you want. I had them get me absinthe a few years ago.

Exactamundo..that place is great

absinthe? over rated, over hyped and not worth the price or effort to get a hold of in my opinion. if youre getting it just to try it youll probably be disappointed.

and gin always tasted like pine-sol, to me.

It's an acquired taste, just like most hard liquor

I like the fragrance of gin, though not so much the taste

Posted by RobotHouse on Mar-21-2007 15:29:

its really the only hard liquor i havent already aquired a taste for

and by taste i mean once it hits my lips i cant stop

Posted by Cosmic Fur on Mar-21-2007 15:46:

I never got that "acquired taste" thing. I'm sure fermented peach juice is an aquired taste too, after you drink enough of it, but why would you, when there are so many much-better alternatives out there?

How did "acquired taste" drinks rise to popularity anyway? Someone comes up with a drink, tastes it, and thinks, "Ugh, this tastes like dead hooker ass", gives it to his buddy, he drinks it, and goes, "Yeah, this does taste like dead hooker ass... let's keep drinking it." Is that the thought process here?

for the record, gin is about the only hard alcohol I can't drink straight either.

Posted by RobotHouse on Mar-21-2007 15:57:

its just a measure of what youre willing to put up with in the process of getting drunk

Posted by PurpleHaze on Mar-21-2007 16:03:

yea like mentioned above you can just order from any lcbo, although there might be a service/shipment charge added on?

who here drinks moonshine? My uncle makes an insane amount, I don't know how the neighbours don't know what's going on in that garage LOL

We get bottle after bottle, it's just nonstop...its the perfect predrinking tool

i think i had some at your house - i remember you telling me it was homemade.

i also love gin, but have never had that french kind. i either get tanqueray or bombay sapphire.

i also have absinthe, but greg's dad bought it for us in france. we imported it into the states.

Summerhill LCBO always had it in stock when I lived down the street from there. Like everyone said, you can always order it there too.

Did I ever drink too much living down the street from that place lol.
