[Review] Above & Beyond, Sander Van Doorn, Blank & Jones, & The King ( = Tiesto)

SUch a great party. I would defenately say that this was one of the best parties in my life.

I got there around 3 am when Above & Beyond were finishing up. They were playing "Good For Me" and "Alone Tonight". There were less than 50 people over there The club was looking great, nice sound and lights. I am not sure who was playing on the terrace, but I spend most of the time inside. After A&B, Sander Van Doorn kicked ass and continued with the same energy from Ultra. Some of the songs played:

Armin Van Buuren - Contrlol Freak
Armin Van Buuren - This World Is Watching Me
Sander Van Droorn - Grasshopper

And eventually, Blank & Jones showed up. I've been in love with their music since I know about trance, and it was a crazy feeling to see these guys live. The World is really missing that kind of trance. Some of the songs they played:

Ferry Corsten - Beatiful
Dj Eco - Light At The End
Blank & Jones - After Love
Blank & Jones - Cream
Blank & Jones - Mind Of The Wonderful

They brought up the energy in the room to an extreme level. There were onlu 15-20 people there, so it was like private VIP set At the end they promised that they will bring the real trance back and come more often to USA.

Anyways, before the I wasnt sure who the King is. So, several days ago I randomly bet my friend that The King is Tiesto because of the umlaut in King. And guess what, I WON Around 7am i was chilling in the main stage, and a dude with several bodygards passed through. It was him. He did a small set (which I didnt get to see till the end since I was dieing after 24h without sleeping).

So, I AM SOOO GLAD THAT I WENT THERE. I would say the worthiest party I went to during the WMC (after Ultra, of course).

Pictures & Videos to be posted later on today.

easily one of the best events of the conference...the intimate setting at this club was phenomenal. there were prolly no more than 300-400 people total at this club for the nite. the setup for the djs in the main room was great with them right there infront of u on a table so u could capture amazing pictures. above and beyond were outstanding and im so glad i went to see them for the first time instead of armin for my 11th. i also had never seen sander van doorn before but heard nothing but good things about him, and he surely did not disappoint. some of the best trance ive ever heard in my life. and of course blank and jones...nothing needs to be said..just classic banging trance from them start to finish. as for the club itself...this club is easily going to be one of the newest hot spots in miami. the main room is spacious and luxurious at the same time while the outdoor zen garden with waterfalls, bridges and streams running through it is just breathtaking like ur on private island partying. as for the king....i had no idea who that could b until a bouncer pushed me out of the way and i urned around and tiesto goes walking by! what a great nite

Posted by epdarks on Mar-25-2007 20:01:

Well you'd think they'd promote him as Tiesto not the king... I would have gone in that case.... damn.

Posted by Miamilawdj2004 on Mar-25-2007 20:23:

I totally agree....the venue....even better than i previously thought. Before when i had been there i'd only been to the mainroom (tottem) and the zen gardens (tottem gardens)....had not been to the ultralounge or back area over there. First off, it was like a runway show: never seen such a concentration of beautiful woman as there were at that place. All rooms of the club/lounge are just amazing. friggin' kiehl's soap in the bathroom even (of course at 10 bucks a corona---you pay for it all!)

I agree about Above and Beyond. was walking from my apt and ended up meeting the booking agent for them so chatted with him a bit...glad to know they'll be back in Chicago this fall. They were amazing just as i thought they'd be. but Sander Van Doorn?? WOW!!! Possibly one of the top 3 dj sets i've heard. What a show he puts on...such much energy---relentless---just a great guy too. Got a bit tired and the room had emptied so i didn't stick around for too much Blank and Jones. Spent the rest of my time in the Tottem Gardens listening to Proggy stuff to kind of wind things down a bit. I friggin LEFT AT 6:50...RIGHT when Tiesto came i guess!!! DAMMIT! i was really spent but i should've stayed! A bartender told me when i got to the club that he was going to be dropping by, but he said at 2:30 or somthing...and i was like he's full of it b/c he's at Mansion until 5am. But i guess i'm the moron now. Of well, still the best night i've had in awhile. Can't wait for some more good events at KARU---that laser they have in there is SICK! Size wise and the total package it is HANDS DOWN best place in Miami, let alone i've ever been!

LMFAO!! Did his head carry him away to the sky when he was done spinning??

On a lighter note....glad u had fun dude...nice review.

a real review from a reliable source...

sorry to say but the reviews here just dont cut it...

karu was really nice, very high class and upscale but it wasnt the kinda place i would like to party for conference. there were just too many rich people running around who you could tell knew nothing about the music!

we arrived around 11 and walked into the outside area which was nicely set up. the dj booth was on top of water with water running above a bar and down behind the bar. it was obvious whoever owns/runs this place has A LOT of money. we walked inside to another room and instantly the smell of seafood hit us. FUCKING NASTY! we walked around and quickly realized this was a club/restaurant. fucking terrible. all the way towards the back we found the main room where above&beyond, svd, and b&j would play. WAAAAAAAAAY too loud in there. i had earplugs and still i felt my ears bleeding!

the opening dj (michael myers or some shit) wasnt playing bad but seriously had the bass turned up to the max. this place was smaller than space but had the same sound system. nice try, but it was too much being that is was that small. we spent the majority of the time just walking around to the outside area because you couldnt smoke cigs inside the main room! WTF?! a club where you cant smoke inside? BULLSHIT! further in the night, people were smoking in the mainroom but security didnt do anything. despite this michael myers played well even dropping a sander van doorn track (sun goes down).

above & beyond were scheduled to come on at 12:30-2:30 but didnt come on until 1 or so. the first three tracks they played were banging but after the slow-dreamy-put-me-to-sleep trance came on and i was bored out of my mind. one track for sure was air for life. TOO OLD MAN!

they finally ended at 3 and then SANDER VAN DOORN came on. the man of the night. the reason i paid $30 for this event! he only played for 1 hour and 30 mins but lemme tell you, best money ive ever spent! even more IDs than the fifth set (which was longer!). some tracks included were king of my castle, control freak, are you fine, who is watching, direct dizko, lethal industry! he blew it away! to be honest he messed up mixing in at least 3 tracks but i dont care! the way he brings the tracks in and the way he fucks with the mixer on the breakdown of a song waaaaaaaay more than makes up for it. his crowd interaction is incredible and he just seems SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO happy being up there! i took a bunch of random pics where his smile is HUGE! after his set he even took pics with EVERYONE that asked! even said a couple of words. COOLEST dj ever and this is why hes my #1 now!

in the past couple of years, all the shows ive been going to, pvd, armin, holden, zabiela, fanciulli, kleinenberg, THIS IS WHAT IVE BEEN LOOKING FOR! nonstop, start to finish, amazing sets. two times in one week! sander van doorn has caught and reeled me in!

onto blank & jones.... when sander's last track (direct dizko) was finishing, b&j tried mixing into it for 30 secs, realized they couldnt and let sanders track play to the end then started. they killed the vibe so bad it was funny. we took pics with svd then left. didnt even hear two songs of b&j.

svd.... the perfect way to end conference!!!!

funny that tiesto was there, we heard he was gonna be there but left after svd knowing it couldnt get ANY better!

pics + vids all coming tomorrow!

I would say that A&B and especially SvD were AWESOME, but Blank and Jones made my night- dropped several HUGE anthems and really reminded me on the good old trancy times. I really hope that they will come more often to USA. I also hope, as they promised me, that they will bring the trance back!

One thing PatMcGroun mentioned- the sound was too loud and most of the people there did not any shit about the music played. I also forgot to express my happiness about the ridiculous lasers!

btw. If you are not happy paying $30 and having the chance to party in a room with less then 50 people and talk to the djs, I don't know what would make you happy. I am very glad that I choose this party over Armin and Tiesto!

Posted by lost in forests on Mar-26-2007 05:59:

I think I haven't posted in over a year on here! But I had to for this party. Hands down excellent party. I got there around 12:40. No problems at the door. Parking was only $10.00 which was nice...some spots around space were hitting $40-50...ouch! Got inside...impressed! I had never heard of this place but once inside it is super nice. They have the patio with rivers and waterfalls really nice. Once inside it's divided into a main room, and 2-3 other lounges. The place is a restaurant so anyone saying "the smell of fish" or whatever gimme a break, they were cooking and obviously people eating so its gonna smell like food. Honestly I didn't smell anything so whatever. Anyways worked my way to the main room when I got there must have been about 500 people...Pretty much a private show. A&B were on and more! I missed them at BED so this more than made up for it. SVD...A++...B&J kept it going for another 2 hours or so...they finished around 6:30 i think...or 7:30..I guess I missed the whole Tiesto fiasco cause I was dead tired...I'm sure I left with him playing. One thing I will say is this...THE DAMN PLACE WAS A RUNWAY SHOW! OH MY GOOOOOODNESS!!! Those little shorts with the high heels and legs....to die for! Best $30.00 spent...one more thing...drinks are toooooo much $15.00 each...

500 people? dude you are crazy. there was less than 100-200 people in the mainroom the WHOLE time! and yes, the smell is fish is gross i just dont want to smell it if im going out to a "club." if was going to chilis or hooters then well i'd be more accepting of that fact.

and finally, svd owned everybody! he showed a&b and b&j what real music is, but i doubt they caught on anyway.

Posted by Miamilawdj2004 on Mar-26-2007 15:53:

Yea as stated earlier---VAN DOORN brought it. My first time seeing him live--or really even hearing him mix---unbelievable! Can't wait to catch him around next time. A & B were good--and they're excellant producers---but SVD was on another level that night.

As far as the smell--i didn't smell anything. I loved the woman as i walked through that area---but didn't spend long enough time in those areas to notice it. But i agree--it's a huge place...and it is a club/lounge/restaurant....you just deal with it. When in the gardens or main area it was fine obviously. people who like the restaurant lounge scene (and alot do) will have to deal with smells i guess.

Loud?? HELL YEA it was loud! BUt, for SVD i am glad they kept it at the level. Maybe it felt alot louder b/c it was so empty in there, but i'm pretty sure that system is just ridiculous. I have left space with ringining a lot worse than that night; however, i also kept moving in/out to smoke and walk around so that may have saved me. NICE PICS Gjorji, lookin' forward to VIDEOS b/c my camera died out. Hopefully i can download them for myself in some way to keep.

OVERALL the best party i've been to in a LONG while. More people in mainroom would have made it even more special--greater vibe.

Looks great! that was my other choice to go too. You didnt stay for B&J?

Posted by XxGrOoVeERICxX on Mar-26-2007 21:09:

Great DJ's, incredible venue, everything was just wonderful!!

So our group gets to the club around midnight. Had to wait maybe 10 min to get in, something went wrong with the will call, no biggie. We walked in thru the restaurant area, didn't smell any fish, and went on into the main room.

The first DJ who played was doing ok, except for the volume, it was just way too loud. Once Above & Beyond started, the sound system began to sound a lot better; probably the sound people noticed the 'loudness' as well. A&B did quite well. Played some nice tunes to get you in the mood:

Some tunes they played:

Cara Dillon Vs 2devine - Black is the Colour (A&B Rmx?)
Cosmic Gate - Consciousnes
Gabriel And Dresden Ft Jan Burton - Dangerous Power
Ferry Corsten - Beautiful (Re Locate Remix)
Above & Beyond Feat Andy Moor - Air For Life
Oceanlab - Sky Falls Down (??? Remix ???)
Cosmic Gate - Analog Feel
Above & Beyond - Alone Tonight
Above & Beyond - Good 4 Me

Onto the man of night...Sander Van Doorn! Wow! Earlier in the week he played at the Fifth on SoBe. Only got to see him for a few min that night, had a gig to play. Anyway, from the review and from friends, he tore it up! And this night he did as well! Incredible! From start to finish, relentless with the tunes! One after another, getting harder, faster, everyone loved it!!

Some tunes SvD played:

Kyau & Albert - Are You Fine (??? Remix ???)
Armin Van Buuren - Control Freak (Sander Van Doorn Remix)
Randy Katana - Another Wave
Armin Van Buuren vs Rank 1 Feat Kush - This World Is Watching Me (Cosmic Gate Remix)
Tiesto - Flight 643 (Richard Durand Remix)
Cara Dillon Vs 2devine - Black is the Colour (??? Remix ???)
Nic Chagall - What You Need (Hard Dub)

Last but not least, Blank & Jones came on. By this time, the crowd had thinned out, but still a decent amount of people on the dance floor moving. Didn't get to stay too long after they started playing, maybe 15min or so before we headed outside on the patio. The only track I remember them playing was Catch. On our way outside, we heard that a special guest DJ was coming to play. Someone had said 'the king' was coming. My friends started joking around saying "oh yea, the burger king guy is gonna be here to spin" We were corrected and told it was Tiesto! We couldn't believe it! We couldn't stay to find out anyway, but it looks like he was there. For those who were there for it, im sure it was a great time!

Can't wait for next year's WMC!!!
