Unhappy Delusional Humvee Driving in Baghdad

http://www.yesbutnobutyes.com/archi...ee_driving.html

On the one hand, the copy with this video says that American soldiers have to drive like this to limit the risk of attack. Some in the comments say its arrogant, and its no wonder Iraqis hate Americans. Others says if the driver slows down, gunfire would start, and thats not safe for anyone. What do you think?

*update: Those who know have identified the city as Mosul, not Baghdad. I used the title it was posted under at YouTube.

I think in this case, I'd have to say that both hands have a point.

Tactically, it makes good sense to keep moving in territory that hasn't been secured.

Nationalistically, it makes sense to be angry at an occupying force, and further angered by members of that force driving through the streets of your capitol city, bumping cars off the road, and driving on the wrong side of the street.

It's amazing that Dubya and his cronies can still say things like "We've made great progress in Iraq."

Stupid, delusional or evil?

what you guys think ??

What's so wrong about that?

Coalition forces are providing security. You see them coming, you move the fuck out the way, just like you would for any police, ambulance, fire or other emergency services.

You don't know if these guys are on the streets to as Quick Reaction Force responding to an insurgent attack, IED, on a patrol, whatever.

You know who these guys are and what they do and what their job is, so move the fuck out of the way.

(It's same for Canadians in Kandahar)

Sure their is. The minute they stop they are sitting ducks for attack.

They must keep moving to keep secure.

Right on!

So this is why people buy Hummers!

On topic, I agree with EvilTree. If you see someone constantly honking their horn and driving a military humvee, you get the fuck out of the way.

RJ brings up another good point.

The threat of IEDs and suicide bombers increase with slower you are and more stops you make.

For example, one Canadian convoy was ambushed and a firefight ensued. During the reorganization (that convoy stopped, ensuring that there were no casualties, no severe equipment.vehicle damage etc) a suicide bomber struck against one of the LAVs (APC used by Canadians) severely damaging it and injuring 2 Canadian soldiers.

How many US soldiers die everyday in Iraq? How many die as a result of vehicle-borne IED, Vehicle-borne suicide bomber or ambush? A lot, I'll bet. I'd be moving my ass too.

Also, I agree that out of context, this proves nothing. Maybe thier buddies were pinned down in a firefight two blocks away. Maybe they're rushing a wounded Iraqi child to the hospital. Maybe he's just having fun driving like an ass because nobody can stop him. I don't care. He's in a dangerous place, at serious risk, being asked to potentially put a bullet in a child if he thinks that kid is a threat, and at serious risk of being wrong about that kid and having to live with it. Do I care if he drives like a maniac? Not at all.

Support THE troops.

Try to be in their shoes, think that the worlds most stupidest president decides to send its army into Canada for peace keeping purposes lets say Toronto for argument sake and they drive around 401 or QEW or spadina like that, and you are driving and the Humvee dood bumps your car like that How would you feel? Go for a smoke outside for 5 minutes think about it and then post a reply.

That stupid guy wouldnt have cared if someone actually got hit by the humvee.Your comment on ambulance police and EMS people... they dont come and bump their vehicles in your cars, plus you give them way because their going to save someones life........Not like these guys who are just taking inncoent lives...

If there such pussies that they cant be still at one place, tell them to go home and join Lazer Quest, or go playball club.

Dont join the army.

Easy to say while living in Toronto, isn't it?

And I take extreme offense to the inference that they are 'just taking innocent lives'. Get shot at, then post.

Though I don't really support the war in Iraq, the way these soldiers are driving is completely acceptable. As many have said, they are driving in a very dangerous area, and if they stop for even 10 seconds, it could result in some type of violence with US & Iraqi injuries or maybe even casualties. Again we have no idea where they are going, and I doubt they would drive thru a dangerous area unless it was important.

They have Failed big time........

Did anything change nothing.

Nothing will Change.

I think you are completely missing the point of this thread. The driving is a standard procedure in any type of hostile envrionment, wether it be in Iraq or somewhere else in the world. Yes they fucked up in Iraq, but that is not what we are discussing at all, we are discussing that this driving is neccesary for the safety of soldiers and surrouding innocent people in a hostile environment.

These guys are operators, not policy-makers. All these guys are trying to do over there is stay alive, and if that means denting your poor little car, too bad. The insurgents in Iraq are known to use women and children to thier ends, even deliberately targeting them on occasion. There are no 'innocents' when you are patrolling a crowded market, and assuming someone to be so costs lives. These people don't play by our rules and conventions, which makes them a tough enemy to fight. I'm not a supporter of the war, or the policy that spawned it, but I'm all for playing a little rough to make sure you don't get dead.

Yes.

I think we've had enough of your foot in mouth comments from you in this thread.

And since you've been quoted, you can't even erase your stupid comments.
