Digweed Review

Going to keep this short cause I need to get some sleep... Digweed was insane!!! He played from 2-7... 2-4:15 was alot of warmup stuff, but still really dark and hard... you could feel the anticipation of something big about to come...

Once 4:15ish hit, he was absolutely relentless... Very hard and very dark progressive... The place was going insane for pretty much the entire time... It takes alot to get me out partying these days, but Digweed hands down can do it over any other dj... and he proved why again tonight. For those that missed out, you should kick yourself.

As for Mstrkrft, wasn't really digging their stuff too much... Sounded alot of old Frankie Bones, except overly repetitive...

After what I went through last night, Pacha and its staff should be set to flames! I'm done with the megaclub scene .

It was nice running into the few of you that I did, but for me, everything including Digweed's great set was overshadowed by what a horrible place that was. I saw 'avikonen' towards the end of the night, but it was literally 2 minutes after I just finished cursing out one of Pacha's staff. It takes A LOT to make me lose my cool. Just some bad timing I guess. Last night took a lot out of me . I don't plan on setting foot back in a place like that again.

set was eh, had to get up early today so i left around 430.

nice seeing bliss, frost, toocoolchris, soap and ghb, and last but not least a true old schooler - PHAZON! Wdup nigga

mixed feelings about digweeds set and mstrkrft's opening - i need my sasha fix

also, whats up with kids swearing they know you, like they dont know your name or where you are from, you've never seen them before but they come up to you and are like yo what up man, you use to go to twilo back in the day. meanwhile the kid looks like he just broke 20yrs old while trying to peddle an afterhours business card to me...not hating, but what has the nightlife come to? lol

LOL, same shit happened to me at Club Exit in Brooklyn Fri nite. Some kid was like yo, Ive seen u at mad parties. Hows it going ?? I'm like uhh OK. ROTFL. The kid looked like he was 19-20 yrs or something too. Maybe this is a sign that Ive been in the scene for too damn long and need to find a better hobby. LMFAO.

Hey nothing wrong with people being nice...

But yeah I've done that numerous times, to people who i thought i knew but then upon closer inspection they are not the person i know at all...very embarrasing, even more embarrasing when you commit the error twice.

Posted by zachias31 on Apr-01-2007 15:49:

I had a great time at the beginning, caught some of Kenneth L and Vogt downstairs, really good stuff, nice to meet you guys. Sleepy & Boo were getting people going in the main room nicely too. i LOVED mstrkrft, would definitely check them out again. totally agree with Your Mother about digweed, nothing more to add, he just simply delivered exactly what i was hoping for.

Pacha was tolerable when I was checking out the locals, and at the beginning of mstrkrft, but after that it was insanely crowded, more so than I've ever seen. People were by and large decent folks, but there was still WAY too much pushing and shoving that had to go on just to get through the crowd. Really annoyed they let that many people in.

Blake, sorry i didn't see you again after that first hello. Sounds like you had a bad night. What happened to make you lose your cool?

oh, also, they were yet again NOT taking credit cards. pacha just lessens the fun of almost every show I go to there...

That was me man. You must have been too hammered to realize.

HE CLOSED WITH APOLLO 440 - LIQUID COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was pretty tired at 7, but when I heard the haunting vocals come on at the start of the track, I felt no pain!

Agree with Your Mother, set was banging, though the whole thing was a little darker than I was expecting - there was very little uptempo electro or minimal that some people have been flaming him about.

Not the greatest Digweed set I've ever heard, but a very solid one nontheless. Technically it was perfect - he's a robot. Oh and Sasha was there completely wasted just hanging out. God I love New York.

Digweed was in top form last night, best set I've heard from him in years.

Absolutely ridic. And he's technically the best out there, not just because of the flawlessness of his mixing but how he seams that into his programming.

Big fat to those that missed this.

The night was ridiculous. fr0st & I were there from 1-7 and rockin out the whole time. I LOVED MSTRKRFT - would definitely go see them in their own show. Digweed was amazing - I actually thought up to 5 am was my favorite part. Yes, he closed with Liquid Cool which was

What a sick night... nice seeing everyone; Groundhogs, that was SUCH a nice and pleasant walk we took at 7am Next time when there's no parents to disturb we'll make sure to hang out a bit after the show.

fr0st says it's the best he's heard from him in years, too, and that there was no "pussying around" lol... that he played like he meant it, no fluff electro.

I stayed until the last track. He really doesn't care anymore. He just wanted to get his check and leave which he did 10 min early at 6:50. And what gaul the man has. After playing relentless nothing the whole night he drops some twilo classic (appollo something) as his last track. Those brainless kids in the front of the booth where screaming at him like he was the second coming of Christ the whole night. He must of been just laughing to himself at how musically uneducated the whole crowd was. If this was a serious club everyone would of ben in the basement where there was actually some real djing going on.

and as for Sleepy & Boo

They were on a short leesh after digweeds set. The first 4 mixes they wrecked and the 5th was really bad.

Dj's just dont care anymore.

Have you ever heard of baseline? A record has one and when that baseline stops abruptly in the middle of something then switches to a woman saying some words with no baseline... see now thats what we call a bad record. He played something like that about 4 times lol. It just killz the flow of the set.

Some very mixed reviews here......

I was at a house party last night, and left around 1am, in the mood for some good EDM. So I made my way to Pacha knowing that I was on the people nyc guestlist (props!). I get there at 1:30, the line is rediculously long (longest i've ever seen at Pacha) and the geustlist is closed. I talked to a bouncer, he said he'd give me the benfit of the doubt regarding the glist, but I'd still have to stand in line. That shit looked at least 1.5 hours long, and I wasn't about to wait it at 1:30 in the morning. So I had to say peace

LOL, we only walked to 9th Ave. We hung out with my parents until 9 after we got home which was interesting.

That BS with the credit cards was fucking annoying. How the hell can places charge that much for drinks and not accept CCs? It was especially annoying because right after I'd paid the $8 ATM fee to take out $150, the bartender took some guy's CC as payment since he had no money and wouldn't use the ATM, but she'd already given him his drinks.

I thought Digweed was on point as usual. I usually have said Ferry is the most consistent DJ that I've seen, but Digweed, with a much more diverse track selection, has been looking to take that title. I think the only time that I've seen him that I haven't been into his set was August of '04 and we've seen him every time he's been to NYC. The crowd kind of blew earlier in the evening, but by the end of the night, we were having a blast. 5-close is usuallly the best time @ Pacha in my experiences there. The 2nd floor was the saving grace earlier in the night, as the floor was pretty annoying. We lost a lot of people and cell phone signal was horrible in there last night, so we got msgs really late after people had switched locations.

The line sucked, but thanks Alisa for coming to get us and bringing us up with you. We'd have been in line for another 30-45 minutes without your help. We had pre-sales that after service charge were $35, yet people paying at the door and people on guestlist were in just as fast as us. Only hard tickets got in first, not will call, which makes no sense. The security check gets worse and worse every time. When Pacha first opened, I was amazed that they weren't doing any security checks, now they're padding the tops of shoes and going through wallets. No wonder it takes so long to get in. Also, why were they sending people upstairs rather than down to coat check. We know where to go, but if you're a new to Pacha, you'd have been lost.

All in all, we had a lot of fun last night, which is saying a lot considering how shitty the day went. By the way, anyone have any contacts for new apartment rentals? We're finally putting the foot down @ over $2800 for a 1 BR in a place where we run AC in January and has had a destroyed elevator for over 4 months.

MAN ALIVE i love digweed!!!!!!!!!!! all i've been thinkin about since i woke up this morning was how much of a blast i had last night. i'm also sad i missed out on the end of the set, after reading what everybody said about it. we had to leave at 5 to get back to philly cause my friend who drove was exhausted, so unfortunately i didn't catch the whole thing. i was dancing like crazy up until the last minute i was there though.... and it DEFINATELY seemed like his set was starting to become even more fantastic!!!!
i did get kinda bored with mstrkrft... i liked a lot of the tracks they played, but it seemed like their set just wasn't ever going anywhere. oh well... can't wait to come back to ny next time

Posted by dcctnycprincess on Apr-01-2007 21:56:

good set by digweed - lots of great basslines, etc. - just not my style anymore. the place was packed and left around 5:30 or so - the crowd wasn't thinning out much and i couldn't take the shoving and pushing anymore. the line around 1:40 am was super long - took at least 45 minutes to get into the club - just another reason i hate the megaclubs.

Posted by fr0st on Apr-01-2007 22:55:

Now I have only seen digweed 10 or so times where as ive seen sasha 20+ times. For the most part digweed has been really consistent where sasha has not. Last time I saw digweed he was really great, but didnt blow me away. Last night he totaly blew me away, he was totaly rocking 3 cdj's he seem to have made some sort of loop cd with basslines, effects, breakdowns etc. It allowed him to give his entire set some sort of conformity through out his set. The breakdown pad/woosh/drum thing he used through out the night was sick sick sick.

Pyro, I would definitely not consider myself musically uneducated. While I may not be a old twilo head or even a new yorker for that matter. I was very much in the rave scene in the mid to late 90's. I was at some of sasha and digweeds first parties in FL. Not to mention djing and collecting records from 97 onwards.

Also lastly on Digweed's set last night, if you were expecting that fluffy progressive electro shit from Digweed last night you definitely would be disappointed, as he played dark and hard. Much like the sound of 2000-2001 except maybe even a bit less melody. He controlled the dance floor, especially since he was using the 3 cdj's. Also the set I heard last night was nothing like his sets that i have been downloading for the past few months, if you were expecting him to play like that, again you would be disappointed.

Also I hate the people at pacha the bartender ripped me off for 2 drinks. Them making you wait in line for no reason other than to create a big line is annoying, they had no need for that especially at digweed. And the fucking bathroom attendants hording all the paper towels and soap. I mean wtf they expect me to pay them to let me wash my hands fuck that. And the security that makes you take off your shoes and feels you up. I miss Arc and centro fly.

Shout outs to the oldschool TA's i saw.

If you've heard one of their recorded sets from the past year, you heard what they sounded like last night. They weren't bad, but nothing unexpected. They were playing that same mix of Buy Now - For Sale from the Transitions set when we walked in.

I agree with what peace n trance said, the set didn't seem to be going anywhere. But I still dug it, big time.

Posted by peace n trance on Apr-02-2007 00:35:

yea for sure... you know how when you are at the olive garden or something and you don't want to keep filling up on bread sticks? mstrkrft's set was kind of like that. although pleasing, it was just too much of the same thing. after a while, my friend and i just decided to take a break for a while on the couches on the 3rd floor and by the time we felt ready to venture back down, digweed had saved the day.
