New M.I.K.E. -Changes R Good

The new M.I.K.E. - Changes R Good is a wicked song
Very innovative and with a new tranzy twist i like.

The Back In Tranco mix does it for me, so does the Main Tro edit, solid chilly groovy trance me like!
Its not the same lame sounded trance we are used to nowaday, but surely the elite board members will dig this one

samples here and on beatport, audiojelly and more
Way to go M.I.K.E. 8/10

tranco edit is really nice

Posted by skip on Apr-04-2007 18:45:

listened to the jdotp remix sample on audiojelly and my head almost exploded. fucking annoying sounds going from left to right in an annoying fashion. terrible.
maintro mix didn't sound much like anything. not bad, not good. bland.
tranco edit didn't sound too special either.

reviews on all these are based on the samples from audiojelly though.

No it's not, it's rubbish and not innovating at all. Putting some elektro in tracks is what everyone does today, and this is even sub-par production work and sounds like 10 in a dozen.

The problem is M.i.k.e. thinks this is the right way to move on and this will be the music of the future, but just like with his tech-tranzy stuff he's mostly wrong.

I advise him to stick with original trance (like he always used to do) until he found a better way to move on, like producing tech-house or melodic minimal or whatever is creative

If this musical direction continues, M.i.k.e. is officialy dead for me; and believe me I used to be a HUGE fan/supporter.

3/10

Thumbs up

I love it. The tranco edit sounds like old super saw trance but not too cheesey.

The maintro mix is my favorite, i wouldn't accuse him of jumping on the electro trend because when i think of M.I.K.E. i think of these heavy buzzing synths, you can tell right away it's a M.I.K.E. song, just a bit slower.

the JdotP mix? ok this really fuckin sucks, take back everything i just said. but the Maintro mix is cool.

Re: Re: New M.I.K.E. -Changes R Good

This track is really, really bad.. it sounds uninspired, forgetable, rushed, and totally without depth. I hope i dont ever have to hear any of the mixes ever again.

agreed..

Unhappy

don't get me wrong, i love almost all of M.I.K.E.'s productions, but i really am not feeling this track.. the maintro & jdotp mixes are complete rubbish and the tranco edit is ok.. i expect club bangers from M.I.K.E. and this was not even remotely that..

At the end, it's a trance forum, and the new mike, i don't really consider it as mainstream trance, exept the tranco mix, xcuse me posting,

But if you see mike lately appearing on big names tracklist, i say thumbs up, but it's maybe not for the younger generation anymore.

Still, wicked release to me, but that's personal!

Thats the thing, no matter what kind of track he makes, the big DJs still play and support it, and so he will continue making stuff like this.. imagine Armin saying to himself "the new M.I.K.E isnt very good, dont think i`ll play it"

Of course it's not trance, and thank god for that... Trance has become dirty enough already. But if this gets played by major cheesetrance dj's like Armin van Buuren then you just know how good this record is. . I can't believe you measure the quality of this track by seeing in which 'big dj' playlist it appears. Big dj's also play Filo & Peri - Anthem Song and this fits alongside it perfectly.

I'd say this isn't for the older generation anymore; this is for the not-informed ASOT listener who consumes everything their 'god' plays.

Too bad, because M.I.K.E. has so much potential. I hope he doesn't butcher his Absolute alias this way too.

Posted by Ultravibe! on Apr-05-2007 10:58:

Maintro rmx is not bad at all! I can imagine this track on playlists of Marcel Woods, Ferry Corsten, Marco V, SvD doing pretty well..

Posted by eXos on Apr-05-2007 11:47:

It might have been better if he had used another alias for this kind of project.

But then again... another alias?

I've come to appreciate the Tranco Edit, there's something very entrancing about the chord progression and the synths. The other versions annoy the hell out of me though. I don't know what Mike had in mind when he created the track, but I have to agree that there's no real depth to be found in this release compared to his older tracks. He seems to have taken a step backwards in terms of maturity. The new Absolute tracks (samples on Mike.be) sound quite empty as well. There's loads of potential each time, but for some reason he doesn't seem to develop it sufficiently.

Galore - The Other Way Around, now that's a track I do like.

Loving that track so much. Certainly has a trancey atmosphere to it, if you can call it that.

But I agree with everyone that Changes R Good is the wrong direction for M.I.K.E., I just can't feel anything from it.

Yes, I agree with you there. M.I.K.E. is still making great tracks under other aliases- Galore, Absolute, Kriss Rider (deep tech-house/electro), Active Sight, Deep Flexion, but the M.I.K.E. alias itself just isn't the same. His new tracks just don't do anything for me. Changes R Good isn't a bad song, but I've heard M.I.K.E. bang this out to death since early November/December, and it's starting to get a little annoying/dated for me. More on the commercial range from his usual stuff, too (not that that's a bad thing). I miss M.I.K.E.'s proggier/trancier stuff.

To be released on Organized Nature

Damn, the more I listen to Dream Odyssey the more I like it. Sounds gorgeous from 1:30 onwards (Myspace-page), very uplifting. I love those strings.

I still think it's a step backwards for Mike, as it sounds like a track from 1998, but the track makes me feel good inside and should send the crowd's hands in the air. Good stuff.

dont sleep on m.i.k.e
just when you think he came out with a not so good track he will suprise you with a banger

That's why he's been one of my favorite producers/DJs for so many years now. He has a good ear for music and he's one of the few remaining trance producers that has stayed true to his roots and has consistently put out quality for the last 12-13 years. The thing I like about MIKE the most is that he makes/plays everything from techno, trance, progressive, house, and electro and does a good job weaving them all together in his DJ sets and making them. Never count MIKE out because he always comes back with great material. This may not be my favorite MIKE-alias production but I know he'll come back with productions I'll love in the future.

Posted by FCB_Fanatic on Apr-08-2007 10:56:

surely not my favorite M.I.K.E. release. The maintro mix was ok the first time I heard it (although not really my style), but I got bored of it pretty quickly. I still like that Tranco remix, heard that one just recently. Haven't heard that other mix.

I'm expecting more or less the same stuff for his upcoming album, something like that maintro mix ... not much trancy stuff in each case. So I'm hoping he'll put out some really great trance releases under other aliases e.g. Galore, Absolute ...
