Apple Launches 8 Core Mac Pro

Meet the latest addition to the Mac Pro family: The worlds first 3.0GHz, 8-core Intel Xeon-based Mac Pro. Consider the bar officially raised.

Performance standard
No matter which Mac Pro model you choose 8-core or quad-core Intel Xeon each delivers advanced performance, workstation graphics, and unparalleled expansion in so many possible configurations, your imagination has finally met its match.

Intel Xeon Processor
Opt for the 8-core Mac Pro and you get the power of two Quad-Core Intel Xeon Clovertown processors running at 3.0GHz. Or choose a quad-core Mac Pro featuring two Dual-Core Intel Xeon Woodcrest processors and decide how fast they fly: 2.0GHz, 2.66GHz, or 3.0GHz. At 3.0GHz, the quad-core Mac Pro runs up to 2x faster than the Power Mac G5 Quad.1

Unparalleled Expansion
Mac Pro accommodates up to four drives and 3TB of storage, offers eight DIMM slots to fill with up to 16GB of RAM, and provides up to two SuperDrives. It also gives you four PCI Express slots and lots of I/O options for ultimate flexibility.

Killer Graphics
Looking for high-performance workstation graphics? Youve come to the right place. Three graphics card options let you choose the card that meets your specific needs. And every one lets you connect up to two displays, including at least one 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display.

More than 33 million possible configurations
Youre the expert. With build-to-order options available for processors, graphics cards, memory, hard drives, optical drives, and other features and components, the ber-configurable Mac Pro lets you build your personal dream machine. The Mac youve been waiting for.

i was just going to ask the same thing

Posted by chinaboy1021 on Apr-05-2007 03:55:

i think they mean package configurations. like options you can select when buying your system. if that is the case, then for 33mil, they must've included all the products they sell (software, accessories, etc)

macs are ghey

I dont understand why this is such amazing news. Its only a matter of time before the 3.0GHz, 8-core Intel Xeon CPU is released for PCs now that Intel makes CPUs for Macs. So what can a Mac offer me that a PC cant?

Posted by Ravist on Apr-05-2007 06:43:

less complications, crashes and vriuses

Posted by failsafe on Apr-05-2007 06:43:

now go to apple.com and select all the top end upgrades for that PC. when i selected the best of everything it came to a price of over 18,000 bucks. Powerful computer, you bet. Expensive as hell and totally useless power for 99.99999% of users, most certainly.

I'm a heavy PC User, and I don't experience such issues.

Its called, stop using an account with admin permissions for day-to-day operation.

What a waste of money, we are struggling to write dual core programs and yet we are introducing quad core CPUs.

The hardware is there, the software is lagging far behind.

How does not using an account with admin permissions stop viruses or crashes? You can use an account with admin permissions and still not have any problems... it's called knowing what is safe and what isn't... and stop going to porn sites!

And this is amazing news because currently there's nothing out in the market like it at this time. True PC will have their 8-core Intel soon, but right now it's not available.

Mac are great, but it all depends on what you do with your computer... if your using it for music production or anything to do with graphics and video then Macs are superior. PC is good for stuff office type of work, e-mails, etc...

It's funny how we're talking about this right now.. the 8-core, but it won't be too long until we have the 80-core....http://news.com.com/2100-1006_3-6119618.html

MacOSX being a "more stable, more secure OS" than Windows is a load of crap. I've seen just as many Mac OS X fuckups as I have seen Windows fuckups on my own box.

I call bullshit here. I recently did some ChucK programming with miniAudicle for a new media art performance. My Toshiba laptop clearly outperformed a Mac Powerbook and Mac G5 (though I am not sure as to their specs) in both miniAudicle (sound) and Max\MSP (video).

They'll start making virus's for macs soon enough

Oh okay, so all the cutting edge computer games are geared towards Macs? LOL

as a pc user all my life up until last year... i bought a macbook... i went from a pc with 4 ghz. running xp (vista wasnt available). and the only thing i had on the on board hard drive was the OS and programs.... my macbook now rated at 2.16 ghz dual core... is a HELL of a lot faster and more efficient the that bullshit i had before... which i had to reformat at LEAST twice a year due to software(windows) fuckups.. pretty much anyone that knows a bit about comouters and uses them to their full potential.. and happens to have some form of money chooses macs lol straight up! IMO obviously i dont wanna start the whole pc-mac fight cuz its not important... its just my personal preference.. someone even asked me if i run windows on my macbook... why the hell would i want to run windows..:| i dont get it ... unless you are using special software ie. Remote server access softwares used in business today often... theres no point using windows... even vista its just shit ! lol i dunno im saying this cuz ive been using some really ecent pc's in the future and i used to be stubborn about switching till i used this thing....

with this laptop i can run ableton live... thru a Firewire sound card using a USB MIDI controller (mixer) streaming 4 separate songs at the same time from the same external harddrive... something that somehow never worked for me in the past!

????? Tell me where I said PCs are shit for video games? All I said was that somethings are done easier/better(to an extent) with Macs. Now from a business stand point, would it make sense to make games geared more for Mac users when probably 75% (or more) of the market own PCs???

I'd say that computer games are graphics oriented applications.

But on a side note, I think people view computers as packages, rather than a collection of hardware. When I build a PC I get hardware that will serve my needs, and so far my PC is doing just fine at music production and gaming.

There's a LOT of software out there that's not available for Macs, not just games. And if there is a Mac version, it's either outdated, or has shitty support, or both.

Vista is shit. I don't think anyone will argue with that.
