They're, Their, and There
The confusion or simply lack of knowing when these 3 words are to be used astounds me.
Agreed, though I definitely find myself slipping up with it occasionally when writing posts/papers/etc.

What are you talking about?
Their always used properly, I defy you to find me where there used improperly, I bet you can't point and say "they're they are being used wrong"
This definately bothers me.
I was always one of those people in school who also couldn't understand why people simply couldn't pronounce words correctly either. I mean, I wouldn't expect someone to just be able to pronounce some super long medical term, but it was just sometimes rediculous. I remember sitting in 12 grade English watching people stutter over words you should have known in 4th grade. Why the hell are kids like that pushed along the schooling system as if there isn't a problem?
would/should/could of

also, adding an apostrophe to "word's" to make them "plural."
...using "they" as a singular pronoun, as in, "whenever somebody says this, I know they're illiterate."

What you described is why to this day, even in college, I hate it when teachers/professors ask students to read aloud - most people just can't, and listening to their broken stuttering makes me angry. |
