Good place to buy an iPod in downtown Toronto?

Does anyone know a good place to buy a 80GB iPod in downtown Toronto (ie a place where I don't have to pay $400 for a new one)?

Just mug somebody for one.. that seems to be the most popular way to get one.

go refurb

Check Craigslist, Redflagdeals or the EhMac for sale forum. Usually lots of items new in box for less than full retail.

How safe/reliable is it buying off someone on Craig's List when they claim for it to be in the original package?

you can get a 60GB for $369 at Canada Computers

They don't have 80GB models though.

Last time I didn't want to give in, I bought a Creative Zen Micro for $300. It broke within 8 months.

I'm giving in.

The refurbs on Apple's site have the same one-year warranty as the new ones.

A good percentage of devices have defects...refurbs are ones that have their defect fixed (remember, these have been accepted as warranty returns, not user damage), rather than ones that don't rear their ugly heads until after the one-year warranty has expired.

$299 for an 80GB...holla.

I'd go for the 30GB, slimmer and less expensive. Do you really need 80GB of music on you at any given time? I figured 30 was plenty for a trip or place I may go where I'm away from my laptop.

I have had three i-pods and everyone of them froze up after having them for only a month...good thing i bought a protection plan for them so i didn't lose out on any money...so my advice is don't buy one at all...i have had a sandisk media player now for a few months and have had no problems with it so I would recommend buying one of those

I bought my last ipod at Futureshop. Also bought an extended warranty plan with it (ie 1 year original warranty + 4 years additional).

What do you know, 3 years into using it, it breaks. I walk into future shop and get a brand-spanking new 8 gig black nano (~300 w/ tax) for free. (nearly free, b/c again, I purchased the extended warranty)

My advice with these things is to go to FS, get the extra warranty, and use the crap out of the thing. Within 3-4 years, it will surely bust (if not, I'm sure you can figure something out ). So after 3 years walk in, get a free new Ipod and buy another warranty plan (70$ these days). Rinse. Repeat. I'm sure you see the financial benefit...

It may be slimmer, but if you fork up the extra 100$ or whatever, you get an extra 50 gigs. That's not that bad a deal at all, and the battery life is the same.

And iPods never break, right?

Doesn't the Zen come with a 1-year warranty, anyway?

The Zen Micro, unfortunately, does seem to have a high defect rate, which isn't surprising since Creative has lousy QC. I don't think they're any worse than iPods though - anecdotally the ratio seems to be about the same but I can't find hard data on the Z:M. Personally, if I were buying one of those things I'd go with the Zune, or maybe an iRiver Clix with a couple of flash cards. No moving parts in a flash card or player, ergo, very unlikely to fail.

is there a need for an 80gb?

try www.irepair.ca

Graham, buy one from costco, the return policy kicks ass if anything ever happens to it, if you ask someone, they'll say the policy is a year, but really its an indefinate time, plus if you ever want your money back, just bring the unit back with your original receipt

i just bought a cheapo mp3 player just for the 16 hour flight back to toronto. its made by a hong kong company named Speed and has 4gb internal storage with ability to add another 2gb via mini-sd, 2" tft screen, video, photos, tetris. all for $690HKD.

Battery life is better in the 80gb versus the 30GB or the model below.

It might be thicker and heavier, but for $100 more, you get 50GB more and i think 4-6 hours better battery life.

I love my 80GB..i put tons of movies and TV shows on there too.

I have about 20 movies that I've uploaded recently to watch when I'm on the train in Europe..the screen may be small, but it occupies at a lot of your time!

TOTALLY! Sent my Dell usb stick through the wash.

So thats soapy water. And our washer is broke, and doesnt always drain propperly. It sat in the washer for 3 days FULL OF WATER.

Found at the bottom when I wen to dry my clothes several days later, put her in, and PRESTO, works no problem.

I love it when water wont even fuck up shit

I would look on Redflagdeals.com

I have bought a few ipods on there.. Just browse through the forums, you will run into something.

Negotiate a price, and then meet up somewhere in TO and do the business.
