graduation presents?
my brother is graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in about 2 weeks, and i'm going out to visit him... but i have NO idea what to give him as a graduation present. we don't talk much since we live pretty far away and we're both so busy with our own lives, so i'm really not sure what he's into besides nuclear engineering, math/science, playing the piano, and wine. the kid is 20 years old, a complete genius, acts a lot older than his age, and dresses like a CEO.
he's going to grad school at MIT this fall, so he'll be moving to Boston. ive thought about getting him something cool for his apartment, but i'm not sure what he wants/needs.
it also needs to be something fairly portable, since i'll be bringing it out with me on a plane.
any ideas?

| Originally posted by montie a great bottle of wine is always a very good gift (especially since he's under 21 and can't buy it himself). see if you can find out if there is a particular type of wine your bro especially enjoys and go to a respected wine shop and have someone there help you pick out a good bottle. a good champaigne or other sparkling white would be great since he would be celebrating his graduation. and yeah your bro sounds like a complete genious |

| Originally posted by Masonious dude, a bottle of nice wine along with a visit from his sis would be mondo rad! You also have excellent taste in clothing so you could get him something to sport in his new environment. Either way, just going out to hang out with him is a dope present. |

I may be out to lunch on this a bit, however, given your limited funds I'd go with a nice Cross pen. They're nice and last forever but not too expensive. Perhaps have it engraved "Class of 07" if you can find an engraver that can fit that much on a pen, otherwise just go with his initials. A good pen is a treat to use and symboliclly marks a transition to a higher level of professionalism, maturity, and sophistication.
disclaimer.... I'm a pen nut, the above may, in fact, only apply to me
