Hello there!

Well hello all! first post and all that jazz.
i bought Armin Van bureen's "A state of trance" at HMV and the link to this place was here! So it seems I have a new forum to post in now!

HELLO!

Anyway,

Over the past few months i have gotten into Trance quite abit, Going from Goa to psy and now ot Progressive and I must say that there is a music style for everyone's soul and Progressive does it for me! Nothing greater than the feeling of good trance engulfing you in a room! Its simply amazing.

I do wonder however, how many of you are Progressive fans?
I just wonder incase I'm alone at all..

Hi there musical wanderer. You'll find all kinds of tastes on this forum, as it should be really. EDM is alive and kicking despite the naysayers out there.

If you are on the lookout for some Sasha stuff and havent come accross the name before because your new to the scene, then get Global Underground 013 Ibiza mixed by him. Its pretty much heaven and easily one of my best CD's. Of course his Xpander EP too, thats his own tunes on that and not a mix though, highly regarded and recommended despite its age by about anyone. Timeless.

Havent checked his latest ASOT cd yet but he certainly defines his ASOT radio show as 'the latest in trance and progressive'; but lets say armin sticks to the more 'popular' side of progressive and never takes it as deep as artist like sasha or hernan cattaneo do.

The fact that he spins alot more trance and tech-trance in his sets than progressive stuff makes him a trance DJ. You'll never find an Armin set with purely prog stuff. He's also one of the more 'commercial minded dj's' out there, playing alot of the popular trance tracks, along with e.g. Tiesto.

On TA commercial stuf is generally known as cheese

Be sure to check out the DJ Promotion forum here as well. We have some major talent mixing up almost every genre you can think of. Most are better than the mix comps you'll buy from the big jocks. Enjoy!

Care to point me in the right direction for that?

it seems to be a trend for people to migrate towards the anthemic/uplifting side of things as far as trance goes when their first getting into the scene.
I would point you in the direction of such, but you will come to realize that most of it starts to sound too similar, and too cheesy after a while.

or
'*BREAKDOWN* lalalalala why did you leave me, i still love you so, *KICK KICK KICK KICK*'

check out ATB or Gabriel & Deresden (despite some of G&D's quality productions), but be warned of supreme cheesage

at anyrate, best of luck to you on your journey through EDM, i know its been one hell of a ride for me!

No no, I guess I am unsure still then, I'm talking along the lines of Rank 1, Airwave, Lost Tribe etc..
And a song called "Divine" from Selu Vibra I think.

The non lyrical side of Trance... Nothing ruins it more than some woman singing about a lost love to the tone of a chipmunk. which style of trance do I like then? It seems Wikipedia gave me the wrong idea.

Yeh I love Goa, Psytrance (Dark psy kinda occasionally) and progressive too although TBH only progressive stuff I have is Vibrasphere.

Check labels such an Anjunabeats, Blackhole, In Trance We Trust, and A State of Trance for epic trance. I own a lot of vinyls from these labels, and I enjoy the bulk of it.

Now, as someone said, after a while you'll realize all these tracks have a common theme or "formula" by which they are produced. That's why I'm currently exploring the progressive side of trance and even house to some extent.

But listen to what YOU like, bottom line. Like I said, check out the above record labels. Good places for samples include:

You'll be amazed how many aliases some artists have. Discogs will introduce you to a TON of new material if you take the time to explore. All of this will seem like n00b shit one day, but we all start somewhere.
