OH HELL YES. The one week this whole summer that I'm actually planning to be in Houston, Hernan's there.

He blew the place up in San Francisco a few weeks back too, will be excited to hear him again.

Ignore this person, Hernan rocks.

The reason you can't see why is because you haven't yet matured enough in your musical taste to understand House music. It's ok, in a few years you'll understand why Guetta sounds juvenile and Hernan's durty bass and beats are superior.

That's a bit presumptuous & pretentious.

Posted by progressiveMOJO on Jun-09-2007 08:03:

well, anyone who prefers Guetta to Hernan clearly doesn't understand house music. maybe a bit presumptuous to say that it's due to musical immaturity, but Hernan's sound is definitely a more mature sound and Guetta has a very commercialized sound. Someone who doesn't understand house is no judge about whether or not Hernan is good.

That being said, Hernan mostly plays progressive house, and plays it in a way that even you trance-heads should enjoy. I've seen him live several times, and all of them have been incredible parties. Whatever you think of me, Ksu1212 (whoever you are), whoever, do yourself a favor and go to this event.

It all comes down to personal preference. Different people like different shit for their own reasons. If Hernan is not your thing, then his music is simply not for you..it does not mean his music "sucks ass".

Now with that said, I will certainly try to be there. The hard part for me, is that I now work a high-rise construction job during the week. I'll try to be there tho.

He didn't even say that, though. He said that on that night, he preferred Guetta to Hernan. Maybe Guetta had a great night and Hernan fucked up. People do have bad nights [except for Tiesto - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-LXdAwKH84 ].

Give me a break, making such opinions regarding my musical taste is very ignorant on your part. I highly disagree with what you said above, but i ain't gonna make tasteless remarks as you did. When you talk house, you mention bob sinclar, jamie lewis, david morales, roger sanchez, hed kandi, antoine clamaran, louie vega, etc.. this is true house music. Hernan cattaneo is not house, not even progressive, at least not on the club night i went to. When you have 400 ppl looking at each other for 3 hours with hernan and the same 400ppl loosing their heads with guetta, i think it's pretty clear what my point is.

Regardless of what your musical opinions are like, you should really calm down. House music is about telling your fellow man to live in peace and unity, not to talk smack on TA forum boards.

Cheers

He may have had an off-night then. I won't be making it, but those that go are in for a good show.

Posted by shaw on Jun-09-2007 22:04:

+1 there isn't such a thing as musical immaturity, it all comes down to personal taste

I wouldn't go so far as to say that...

Posted by system9 on Jun-10-2007 02:33:

Why not ??? what you may consider to be immature somebody else will consider mature.

Posted by Zeonfiend on Jun-10-2007 04:58:

Too bad that doesn't work with fruits and vegetables, where it's pretty obvious when something's ripe or not.

Posted by progress on Jun-10-2007 05:54:

I will be making a road trip for this one.....

They need to bring more house to Houston.. Roger Sanchez ....Sander Kleinenberg..seems like all events have been Trance..except for Danny but he's more progressive house....which is great..Some techno would be great also..some Tiga, CARl COx

the fact that people disagree on a point does not mean that there is not a defined, correct answer. Just look at economics.

Posted by system9 on Jun-10-2007 23:39:

what would be the correct answer for being "musically mature" ???

Posted by shaw on Jun-10-2007 23:53:

having developed at least an appreciation for, if not a preference of, music that is more advanced with regards to composition, performance/production/execution, and innovation. That doesn't mean that house is better than trance, or rock is better than hip-hop (though it almost uniformly does mean that music commonly categorized as 'classical' is musically superior to that of almost any other genre), but it certainly does work to define the quality of different tracks or albums within a certain genre. Some may, in general, have a tendency to lend themselves to releases of a higher quality (for instance, punk is not exactly filled with the most ingenious of creations), though. That's not to say that something basic and unoriginal can't be enjoyed, or that a piece of music can be great simply by means of being highly advanced and innovative and produced at the highest level, but it does mean that to be "musically mature," one should be able to, at the very least, recognize and appreciate the differences, even if his personal preference does not always lend itself to an enjoyment of the 'musically superior' of options.

Posted by system9 on Jun-11-2007 00:16:

so why the fuss? I couldnt of said it better myself, thats exactly what i mean. You coming down for Above and Beyond???
