i never wanted to be a rich East-coast college kid...

until i saw this:

http://www.bennington.edu/campus_living.asp

jesus christ, those are their DORMS?!

it's pretty neat, actually... it's kind of a "choose your own curriculum" Bachelor of Arts school, where you basically are in charge of what classes you want to take instead of following a strict course outline for your major. they've got some really interesting sounding classes too, everything from Music to Visual Arts to Social Sciences to Drama to Literature and so on.

also, Bennington College is where Bret Easton Ellis went to school, and i was clicking around the site and you can totally see the similarities between that campus and the fictional Camden College campus from Rules of Attraction. they even call the common lawn "End of the World" - ok, just a random note that no one will find interesting unless they're a crazed Bret Easton Ellis fan like me.

but seriously, did anyone go to a school like that? or know anyone who did?

As you well know from dinner table discussions with my sister, I'm no fan of schools like these.

it's like the artsy/creative version of RPI, and located only about 45 minutes away.

Goddamn, if there was ever one snooty thing I always wanted to be a part of, it was elite schools.

Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's a fine school (much like RPI or St. Norberts), with solid academic credentials.

Just not my idea of what I'd like my University experience to be like.

At least it doesn't appear to have a "typical" curriculum - that's neat

that's why i referenced being a rich East-coast college kid in the thread title. obviously most of the kids who go to schools like this come from very wealthy families and don't have any debt once they're done.

...and probably didnt even need to go to college anyway since the can fly right into a high level position at their parents company.

but they all hate their parents and want to leave home and experiment with drugs and promiscuous sex. college is a good excuse for that.

And I was complaining about 7800 a quarter for BS in Software Engineering.

I should be getting spoiled like that for these prices.

Posted by PhaseFour on Jun-20-2007 20:35:

price isnt too bad considering places like stanford are between 40-45k, maybe even more.

Posted by emc^2 on Jun-20-2007 20:41:

what a rip off... Considering Yale is "only" $42K (plus room and board). Looks like a school "For Metros by Metros" (aka fudge packing factory)

not that there's anything wrong with it

Posted by tubularbills on Jun-22-2007 02:47:

fuck that.

state schools ftw!!!

'damn it feels good to be a gangsta'

School's like this really help middle eastern colleges become accredited in the US.

However, I always wanted to splash paint all over my naked self, roll around on the floor and get an A.
