Isnt Sasha over-rated?

I mean common guys... I admit that his Albums are just out of heaven.. pure bliss.. but that dosent mean he is a 'DJ' at World No. 9 or 3?..

Common, when was the last time you heard any good set from him?

I have heard a lot about about Sasha.. like he is lame most of the time but one set he does once in a while and that is absolutely rocking, like noone else.. well if you know such set.. than post me the link (just name)! I am yet to hear that one set..

I like all of his albums though.. they are just bliss..

But still.. outside of his albums which comes in once in 2 years.. live sets.. he is very boring and dull with only beats and beeps.

and no, I don't find his mixes dull and boring, delta heavy was a landmark and he still continues to rock clubs with his current sound.

Posted by Purple on Jul-03-2007 19:07:

Yeah I was about to post a disclaimer that Clovis is not allowed to post in here.

look I live in India, i cant afford to see him live.. are you saying he is no 3 or 9? cos of people who have seen him live and voted for him?

is being a top Dj is all about 'seeing' a DJ live?

The "live" experience is actually quite different from the "hear in my room/car" experience. There are tracks that sound absolutely nothing when heard within the confines of one's room/car but are quite a stunner when 'experienced' live.

Off the topic, Rabbit in the moon gets my top vote for "live" experience. You gotto see their show to actually understand what i am saying. Just love them. And i have cared to hear a total of one-track from them from outside their live shows.

I have seen Sasha live on a fwe occassions and he didn't really blow the place up. But then, i enjoy his music.

You can't say someone is a bad DJ if you have never seen them live. People forget that DJing is first and foremost a performance. Music that is DJ-ed live is not necessarily music that is good for listening to at home. I have been to MANY DJ performances where I would not want to listen to the set on my iPod, but on the dancefloor, it was a killer. In regards to Sasha, he is, IMO, one of the few top DJ's who still puts a lot of effort and innovation into his live performances. How many DJ's do you know that have had a custom mixer built because they want to go beyond the limits of everything else on the market?

That pretty much sums it up. And to put it in perspective, there are tonnes of DJs who are hithertho unknown but absolute killers when they stand in the DJ both. Sasha is more famous for his production.

Now, DJChrisB,

Did you DJ at Churchill aka Frequency 3 (Ybor City) last Saturday?

For that reason, I do think sasha is overrated. Not because he's bad, but because there's too many other good DJs to just single out a few and elevate them to pop stars. In the end, you're just playing someone else's music. You can be very good at it, but being famous for it is just wrong.

No, I don't think he's over-rated as a DJ....thought to each his own. I really can't say much...I'll just up a set and you can be the judge..one of my fav Sasha sets in the last year or so...a pity it's a little short.

How about that shit. That's why i usually go by my full name, but didn't want to in an TA username. I used to go by C-Bass (combination of my first initial and first part of my last name) until some guy by the same name that produces crappy-happy hard core started releasing tracks.

Everyone just wants to be like me.

underrated... wow, that's funny

Posted by DJ_Eternal on Jul-03-2007 21:02:

The type of music that Sasha's spins ain't really my cup of tea, but the set at Bonnaroo was surprisingly good.

I think some of his productions are excellent, but Xpander is over-rated in my opinion.
