Are these DJs considered UPLIFTING??
i know Tiesto and Ferry and AVB and Gielen etc are Uplifting trance DJs...
but are Marco V and Mauro Picotto and Blank & Jones also considered "UPLIFTING"...i consider uplifting to be kinda softer style of trance like what Tiesto and Rank 1 play...but these other DJs seem to play harder trance...not real hard..but different enough for me to question if its still uplifting...
would this be right:
UPLIFTING = Tiesto, Rank 1, Ferry, AVB, Johan Gielen, Cor Fijneman, DJ Astrid
then i would consider these DJs harder but not HARD trance...jus a tad above uplifting = Blank & Jones, Talla 2xlc, Marco V, Mauro Picotto, Dumonde....
i am not saying they are Hard Trance DJs but jus a little harder then uplifting...am i wrong...what do u think?????
I think that Tisto is the most uplifting I can imagine. Nothing could ever be better than the "Magik" series or that first Innercity set. In that matter I think that he defined the style. Rank 1 is definitely uplifting like in the "awakening" song like AVB can be but I have some really hard sets he played, much like PVD. But to synthesize, nothing equals Tiesto in this matter.
ok so if Tiesto is uplifting what are the others considered???

The only true uplifting DJ you named there is Johan Gielen, I think. I just saw AvB this saturday, and he's more of a uplifting/progressive trance DJ now. Same with Corsten and Tiesto from what I've been hearing. Blank & Jones? Hehe, they play commercial tunes, and once in a while, an uplifting track. They dont' really have a defined style, I think, they just play the "sick" beats
Marco V, Talla, and Dumonde...hard uplifting. They tend to play tunes that follower a similar formula to uplifting (beat, braek down, build up, next, repeat) but with a more thumping beat, and not as epic synths.
Mauro...I've never really heard this guy, but I doubt he's hard trance...more like techno, methinks.
And PvD isn't an uplifting DJ...He plays everything...bangin trance and prog..techno...whatever...he's an electronic music dj...hehe. A while ago I had a set by him, he started his set off with a break beat tune...
Mauro is techno now
And PvD isn't an uplifting DJ...no offence man, but thats just stupid, thinking he is. [/QUOTE]
im not pidgeon holing him into just being uplifting but he certainly does have his sets where he plays some massive anthems man. dont call me stupid, bitch.

Im happy that they are doing better these days days

| Originally posted by Biohazard no thats not true he plays very uplifting, just not the high NRG dumonde or gielen type of stuff but still quite uplifting, just as scot bond and hardwick tend to do. People say he is turing progressive, thats not really true. I have never seen a set/CD of him which was progressive, in fact I think that magik 7 is one of the must uplifting and energetic CD I ever bought. Its true that tiesto doesn't spin the 99 type trance, but saying that he doesn't play uplifting isn't true. and blank Jones are good producers but spin pertty cheesy, check the rosenmontags set from last year where they dared to play Operation blade and barthezz Im happy that they are doing better these days days |

Mauro Picotto - Trance?
I think not!
Well his productions are often trancey, But he doesnt mix any of this,
He plays fucked up weird techno, more bangin than the adult channel and Television X put together!
Picotto's style = DIRTY
the way music is meant to be
Mauro Picotto - Proximus = uplifting trance!
IMO Mauro Picotto is uplifting and techno 2gether
but tiesto, rank1, ferry and ATB.....
and mayb sum of the others u've listed that i've never heard.... r quite uplifting
AvB is IMO quite Hard Trance
Hmmmmm

Now here's something that has been bothering me for a while.
Hard Trance is apparently to diffeerent styles according to conflicting views.
Some say that the harder trance stuff out there (Dumonde) is Hard Trance.
Others say the hard house/techno area with trancey samples (Nick Sentience) is Hard Trance.
I refer to Hard Trance leaning more to the hard house style of things.
I class Dumonde and other such artists to be Epic Uplifting Trance.
Just my opinion.
Whadda ya think?

Let's stop being so anal about genre classifications.
The word "uplifting" is a term used to describe a particular piece of music, and isn't really a genre in itself. It can be as easily applied to a Mauro Picotto set or a Dumonde set as to a Tiesto set. It's about the nature of the music, not the exact form the music itself takes.
So long as you know what trance music is, more or less, you can add as many qualifying terms to the front as you like. Uplifting trance simply describes a piece of trance that the listener finds uplifting, but it doesn't mean that it should be placed in a genre all on its own. Hard trance can be uplifting as can tech-trance, prog-trance, goa-trance or even house or techno music.
Just please stop being so obsessive about pidgeon-holing every sound into a particular genre with inexorable exactness and just enjoy the music for what it is.

I've found that the reason everyone tries to classify all the genres, is so that we all know exactly what we mean when we say something.
So often I've heard of people saying that they like a certain genre, and I invite them to a party that is of that genre (from my perspective) and it turned out that their view of that genre was different.
I guess its just a way for us to try and simplify the communication of our love for the music.

ATB = RUBBISH
Besides that....i frankly don't care what ppl label deejays because uplifting, epic, hard trance, melodic..so on....i like the deejay or i don't. Genres are like labels......i don't like to label deejay because a deejay who plays epic could one day start playing prog trance, so who knows.

by not classyfying the genres you give no credit to the particular expertise of a certain artist...do you think ferry corsten or armin van buuren or paul van dyk (as producers not djs) would be happy if everyone decided to ignore genres and classify all trance as "elcectronic music?" I understand how it becomes annoying when people try to categorize music since the genres tend to become so percise that they are difficult to follow. But, its necessary to categorize so that we know what exactly people like. I like trance, trance is a form of electronic music and techno is a form of electronic music, but i dont necessarily like techno as much as trance. Do you see what i mean?
I think Mauro Piccoto"s style is considered more into hard house...Than trance or techno...
come on people...
seems like whatever DJ's people here like best, they label them as "uplifting."
In truth you can label anything "uplifting," more or less.
I would say that Armin van Buuren is an uplifting DJ. Tiesto no longer plays melodic anthems, so I wouldn't include Tiesto in that list. Paul van Dyk? I don't think so, his music is hypnotic but not uplifting in the sense that Armin van Buuren's is, for example.
Blank & Jones are VERY uplifting DJ's, and songwriters as well. Listen to something like "Beyond Time," or their "Trance Mix USA 2" CD. The definition of uplifting...
